Game Freak's lesser-known 2D action-adventure puzzle sidescroller Giga Wrecker Alt. appears to be making its way across to the Nintendo Switch and multiple other consoles in the near future, after being rated by the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee.
Giga Wrecker was first revealed in 2016 and debuted on Valve's Steam platform as an Early Access title. On consoles, the Alt. version will be published by Rising Star Games. You take control of a girl named Reika in a world invaded by an army of evil robots. Reika has the ability to manipulate debris in order to solve puzzles and crush enemies. Below are the key features, courtesy of the game's Steam page:
Mixture of exploration and physics
Smash down towering walls, use rubbles as platform and climb high cliffs……This game is an innovative mixture of physics and stage exploration.Combination of puzzle and action
Crush enemies with a falling object, think and choose the right weapon for the right situation……you can enjoy the achievement of solving puzzles and gimmicks, beating traps and enemies.Special abilities
The player character has the power called ARCHE(ARms Creating and Handling Effect), the ability to construct various weapons using rubbles and scraps from broken objects.
Each weapon has its own unique effect, so make full use of them to explore through the stages.
If you're surprised to hear Game Freak is releasing a game that's not Pokémon, there's no need to be. For a long time now, the Japanese developer has been working on the occasional side-project in between major releases. In the past, the company has developed games such as Drill Dozer on the Game Boy Advance and the rhythm eShop release HarmoKnight on the 3DS. Unfortunately, one that got away from Nintendo fans was Tembo The Badass Elephant. Obviously, Game Freak is also currently working on Town and the new Pokémon due out for Switch this year.
We'll be sure to let you know when there's a more official Giga Wrecker Alt. announcement.
In the meantime, tell us if you would be interested in playing this game on the Switch.

Looks great. I love seeing Game Freak do new stuff. This and Town will make my year.
Oooooooo. I like. Will buy
would be interesting to see them bring Tembo to the switch as well.
other then that. glad to see more non-pokemon Game Freak games come to Nintendo platforms again.
Oh wow! Great Game!! Waiting it!!
Great year ahead for Game freak !! Town too!
Would love a HarmoKnight sequal...
But I also want a Rhythm Heaven game as well.... Love rhythm bases games.
This game looks good. May play it down the line, adding to the hugme backlog of games from the last two years
I like how barely anyone seems to care about Gamefreak outside of their biggest series.
Interesting art style. Can't say I'm especially drawn to it, but it's not pushing me away yet either.
I’ve wanted to try the Tembo game. I can’t believe Nintendo didn’t push to get it on Switch, at least if not Wii U.
Now this is def on my radar... 👀 Been a fan of Game Freak's other contributions for a good while.
Looks like nintendo know how get the better projects from they. And the ones n so promossing, end in some other place.
Looks ambitious. It reminded me of something Inti-Creates would do.
@Preposterous Maybe if their "not Pokemon" games had better or even any advertisement people would be more interested.
"From the Pokemon guys" is a massive selling point, but that doesn't matter if nobody knows the game exists. Heck, even Tembo, probably their most marketed game as of late (aside from Pokemon of course), it took me quite a while to realise it was from Game Freak because their name basically didn't come up in any of the marketing I came across.
@Tao They may be contractually denied the ability to advertise their products as such, the teams may be completely different or they have a shred of dignity to not fall back on their biggest hit even when doing something completely unrelated.
@Preposterous I imagine you could be right about not being allowed to advertise in that way.
As for dignity, eh, I don't see anything wrong with advertising themselves based off of their most popular game, not to mention the most grossing franchise. If the games are bad it won't matter who made it, but saying "we also did this thing you like" at least gives them a leg up so they don't just blend into the ton of other nameless releases each month. Even just having Game Freak a bit more prominent on the marketing would at least grab the attention of Pokemon/Nintendo fans.
Having dignity is cool n' all, but sometimes too much pride can be just as bad as having none.
Looks interesting. But I would also love that game with the elephant, what was it called?
