Retailing giant Amazon has shared a list of the 100 best-selling products under its 'Video Games' category throughout 2018 in the US. Nintendo has an impressively large presence in the list overall, even managing to snag the number one spot.
While this list obviously only covers this one particular store, Amazon's retail dominance means that it still provides us with a decent look at which physical products are popular (although digital codes for things like PlayStation store credit actually litter the top 10). We've gathered all of the Nintendo-specific entries in the list for you below, including games, consoles, and unofficial accessories that have been marketed with Switch players in mind.
1) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4) Nintendo Switch Screen Protector Glass (amFilm)
6) Nintendo Switch Console - Neon Red/Blue
8) Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
15) Super Mario Party
17) Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Mini
21) Nintendo Switch Carry Case (Orzly)
22) Nintendo Switch Console - Grey
23) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
24) Super Mario Odyssey

89) $5 eShop Gift Card (Digital Code)
94) Nintendo Switch AC Adapter
95) Mario Kart Wii
97) Joy-Con Comfort Grips (PowerA)
It's a pretty impressive share of the top 100 products, with the Switch in particular proving to be very popular indeed. Also, in case you missed it, Mario Kart Wii was the 95th best-selling video game product on Amazon in 2018 despite the fact that it released ten years earlier in 2008. Wow.

Looks like N are doing good business for sure. Still not into Smash, sorry glad so many people are enjoying gaming thOugh. Good for everyone.
I suspect gaming has grown much larger in the last few years but I, too lazy to research....
Wonder who owns a Wii that didn’t already own Mario kart
Should stress this is Amazon US
Mario Kart Wii making it into the Top 100 suggests the list should be a Top 50 in future, to stay relevant...
Amazon sold more copies of Mario Kart Wii than it sold 3DS or 2DS consoles. That's not encouraging for the future of the plucky little handheld.
My brother and his wife has a 7 year old daughter. Neither of whom are really gamers. But the wife buys the latest installment of Just Dance on Wii every year. For Christmas, the daughter said she wanted video games because the only time she really plays them is on vacation in summer when her uncle brings his Switch. This resulted in a sale of Mario Kart Wii for her. Plus, I bought her dad an NES Classic for Christmas which I knew he would appreciate!
I wonder how many of those wii Mario Kart purchases were accidental. Made by someone who meant to buy it for Switch happens to the best.
Which store is this? the UK or US? or combined?
Edit: @Knuckles-Fajita thanks for pointing that out it doesn't say in the article
I wonder how high the Switch console would be if you combined the neon and grey SKUs.
Mk Wii is such a great game
Smash must have sold crazy numbers. Red Dead or Black Ops might be higher if you combine platforms though.
Considering how late in the year Smash came out, that's pretty nuts.
#Nintendoomed
The UK list isn't best-sellers of 2018 (it's as of now), but Smash still sits at the top and NSMBU Deluxe is in 3rd.

playstation classic console clearly a flop as its not on that list and its now been heavily discounted on amazon UK
@Heavyarms55 Yep it's pretty clear this is the beginning of the end, I predict a fire sale on Switches in Feb.
Where’s the French guy? I want his negative spin on this.
Joking aside... Great news for Smash! Well deserved! And it seems that Nintendo isn’t doing too shabby in the US either, at least not when looking at the Amazon top list.
Nintendo: "We rediscovered the secret to print money!"
@Quarth Just like Candyman, best not to mention their names.
@lemonjellydude
I would say that's likely, cause it's also heavily discounted in the States too. I always thought it was weird that Sony didn't even announce what games were on it until it basically released, so people didn't even know what they were pre-ordering.
@Knuckles-Fajita The updated list from Amazon UK:
1 - FIFA '19
2 - FIFA '18
3 - FIFA '17
4 - COD BLOPS 2
5 - FIFA '16
6 - Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
7 - Read Dead Redemption 2
8 - FIFA '15
9 - PES '19
10 - GTA V
@Bunkerneath @Knuckles-Fajita
When no descriptor is given, it means Amazon US. Amazon is a US-based company and the default website is the US site.
@PuppyToucher the ones that didn't bought the bundle with it!
@Heavyarms55 definitely not trying to pile on the #nintendoomed bandwagon here, but people need to realize much like with Smash Wii U, it's one game. Smash's success does not dictate the success of an entire company.
Case in point, what does Nintendo do the next 4-5 years while they don't rake in tons of cash on a single game? This isn't to say Nintendo doesn't have a plan for the next 4-5 years, only that we've seen this dance before. 3rd party content will continue to be key.
@hihelloitsme lol Smash on Wii U was one game released in a near total drought. But Smash on Switch is one game released into a healthy and constantly growing ecosystem of games. And it's a steamroll effect. Much like how the lack of support on Wii U discouraged more companies fron supporting the console, the growing success of the Switch is encouraging more support. Even EA and their elitest lazy BS is apparently rethinking their reluctance to develop for the Switch.
@PuppyToucher Probably people re-buying it.
I have friends who still play Mario Kart Wii more than 10 years later!
I'd say the biggest news is the glass screen protector at #4, having a good quality glass screen protector is absolutely essential for Switch.
This can't be true, the Nintendo Switch and all of it's games are not selling that well,I know this because many people on here have told me.
@Matthew010 If you click on the left on 2018
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/2018/videogames/ref=zg_bsar_cal_ye
It says updated daily, but it can't be as its not 2018 anymore
Shame to see Super Mario Party and Mario Tennis Aces on this list. Shows that people will buy just about anything, even if they are low quality products. Looks like ARMS was a failure after all. A 10 year old game is outselling it now lol.
That's crazy with Mario Kart Wii! I wonder how many more copies they would have sold if they had ever made it a Nintendo Selects game a long time ago? I remember trading it in for $32 to Gamestop when the Wii U came out. That was more money than they were giving for just about any other Wii game at the time (other than Xenoblade or Fire Emblem, of course!), and it had already sold like 30 million copies back then.
@waluigifan1 Who said those games are low quality? Also Arms has sold over 1 million and i think is close to 2 million. That is actually a success for a fighting game. By your logic if a game that is a 1 year and 6 months old doesn't outsell a game that sold over 32 mil it is a failure
The best selling 3rd party on Switch is $29.99 Minecraft and at #48 - 🙃
Would be interesting to see how this compares to the actual NPD 2018 top sellers later this month.
@nocdaes Whatever floats your lame boat....
@waluigifan1 I highly disagree with you. You would have to play it first, then I will listen to your new thoughts about them. Lovely dislikes you got there.
People got to admit the Mario Kart Wii is just way better than Mario Kart 8! Of course I am not saying Mario Kart 8 is bad at all. Just saying I like Mario Kart Wii better, and that I totally did not say "you have to admit it is better than 8"
I played Mario Kart Wii a lot more than 8. In the Wii version, winning races seemed to be more about skill than luck (Bowser Bike FTW). Other than that, Mario Kart 8 does everything better.
I'm quite surprised that Mario Kart Wii is still selling. Seems like people still have their Wiis hooked up after all these years; my dad still has a Wii and he does play MKW.
I'm more of a Mario Kart 8 guy myself. MKW is a very good game, don't get me wrong, but in that game, bikes are rather overpowered compared to karts. And the less I talk about the thunder cloud, the better.
@IceEarthGuard He's got a massive vendetta against ARMS. And Mario Tennis. Massive. I think they pushed past him in a queue in a supermarket or something.
My guess is that’s a lot of grandparents buying the wrong version of Mario Kart cuz it was cheaper 😂
@Agramonte
For last December, expect massive record breaking numbers for Smash Bros Ultimate and huge figures for other Switch evergreens. Also expect Nintendo Switch hardware sales to equal or possibly exceed PS4 and Xbox One hardware sales combined, with the biggest December sales ever recorded for a gaming platform since 2009/2010.
Your missing some numbers there
@PuppyToucher I'm probably the only person on earth who doesn't own Mario Kart Wii. I don't really see any need when I already have Mario Kart 8.
