2018 has been another stellar year for gaming with a mixture of major releases, remakes, and more indie gems than we know what to do with all clamouring for our attention (and our hard-earned cash). To celebrate, Nintendo has put together this short video, showcasing some of the very best Nindies to grace the Switch this year.
Games featured include Dead Cells, Flat Heroes, The Messenger, The Gardens Between, Inside, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Gris, Mark of the Ninja: Remastered, Horizon Chase Turbo, Iconoclasts, Into The Breach, Wandersong, Crypt of the Necrodancer, and Flipping Death, some of which even managed to make a dent in our staff Game of the Year awards thanks to their amazing levels of quality.
Of course, 2019 is shaping up to be just as spectacular, with games like Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes coming on 18th January, and Shovel Knight: King of Cards arriving on 9th April to name just a couple. We'll also be getting our hands on one of our most highly anticipated titles of 2019 - Untitled Goose Game.
Have you enjoyed this year's collection of indie hits? Feel free to share some of your favourites with us in the comments below.

I still enjoy Portal Knights since year 2017.
For this year (2018), I have finished Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles in 8 days.
@Anti-Matter Hollowknight is my fav.
I've played Hollowknight for over 80 hours. I love Dead Cells, and I can't wait to play Gris and Celeste.
It was a pretty good year for indies, no doubt!
Nice trailer.
What was the music playing? I like it.
Iconoclasts did not get remotely enough love. Such a stellar Metroidvania. And one that is tough without being absurdly difficult, like some indie games tend to be.
Currently however I am finally playing the Shantae games, since they were on sale last week. Do those count as indies too? I feel like they do.
There are more indie games in that video than all the first party Nintendo games released this year.
been a good year for indies. Im not so disappointed in nintendos lack of new content in 2018 what with so many other great titles like these to play
Crikey - that video made me want to buy the games I've bought already, let alone the ones I don't have.
That's the second time that Dead Cells thumbnail has been used today.
@Retupmocnin Obviously, because Indie is not just one company. We will always have more Indie games released than Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony's first party games release in a year combined.
Dead Cells was one of my favourite games this year, I couldn't stop playing it.
Currently making my way through Iconoclasts and having a good time, whereas I gave up on Hollowknight because I just can't face any more joyless backtracking...
@Other-Brother Dystopia - Billy Lincoln . Good song to showcase dead cells imo.
Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley and Steamworld Dig 2 are my top picks.
I haven’t had the chance to play most of the big ones this year, like Dead Cells, The Messenger or Celeste. They’re in my wish list though.
I've already bought about 10x more games than I have any hope of finishing as it is
Dead Cells is legendary. That is all 😄
@Friendly Thankyou so much!
