As we get closer to 2019, the lovely Alex Olney can't help but wonder what's ahead for Nintendo. Being unable to contain his excitement any longer, he's compiled a list of things that need to be done by the beloved company in the new year.
In the above video, you can find out what exactly our video producer's demands are. He's not talking about games, it's more along the lines of services and features that need to be added to the Switch and also new hardware that we think should be released. If you can't set aside 12-minutes to watch this video, here's the full list:
- Bluetooth headphone support
- Add Super Nintendo Games to the online service
- Virtual Console-style Nintendo 64 compilation for Switch
- More DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Netflix and Amazon Prime Video
- Switch Pro Model
- Unique Joy-Con ideas
- Nintendo 64 Mini (why not double-up)
- Folders and themes for the Switch HOME Menu
- Better social options and connectivity (messages and voicing)
- Add backup data and cloud support to every game (Splatoon 2, we're looking at you)
What do you think of these requests? Would you add anything to this list? Tell us in the comments.

Bluetooth, being able to text/chat with friends is a must. A web browser is a must. Throw in some Mario and Luigi pro controllers in the mix. I’d like to see something like Wii Sports take advantage of the improved motion controls.
I must be getting old, other than SNES games and N64 ones, I couldnt care less about any of the other demands...
I just want more games, games and more games.
Metroid compilation would be sweet. But not too many ports please..
Virtual Boy games if they end up doing the VR thing. That'd be terrific
More classic content in 2019 is a must. More from other consoles that is.
Or they're working on a new Mario Kart game?? Can't keep giving dlc to a Wii U game forever.
They should bring over what made the 3DS great. Rune Factory-type game, Etrian Odyssey, Fantasy Life (or that Towns game coming up), Ff Explorers, Bravely Default series. Many others I can't even think of.
@Spoony_Tech I was hoping for at least one more dlc. I feel that Kirby, Star Fox, and F-Zero need to be represented with racing vehicles based on their larger ones.
"Bluetooth headphone support"
If there is no hardware support for BT that isn't going to happen. That may be in future Switch v2 but not at current.
"Netflix and Amazon Prime Video"
Whoms going to pay for the royalties for these money grubbing company?
"Switch Pro Model"
Probably in a 10 lifespan model. aka 2037 wow that is far.....and if sooner maybe 5 yr aka 2022 I think I can live with that timeline.
"Folders and themes for the Switch HOME Menu"
"Add backup data and cloud support to every game (Splatoon 2, we're looking at you)"
This is better set for Nintendo Dashboard on your computer to manage your saves and backups. Cloud for anything is PRIME target for Hackers and Botnets to get your data.
Forgot to add BIGGER internal RAM and Bigger Internal Storage. 32gb isn't cutting it here. Why not give option to Storage like iPhone
32gb
128gb
200gb
400gb
That would do more.
@MysteryCupofJoe I think their time is expiring for dlc for this Kart. It's been out for over a year and a half and no mention of anything other then cosmetic stuff here and there. I would love to see some Metroid love tbh. I think they're most likely working on a new Switch version.
Bluetooth - a nice to have
Spectrum emulator and all games
Louder speakers
Just a TATE Tetris
Raiden
Mmmmm.....I’m happy otherwise
Media center with dlna
function
Connect wii controller via Bluetooth +USB adapter for the sensor
Crunchyroll
Achievements
Better cloud storing where you store the screenshots and video recordings on the cloud and also share them where people can like and comment.
You should also be able to acess the screenshots and videos with your phone or pc so you can save them hard-drive etc
Msn messenger inkl MSN PLUS+
Winamp
Bonzibuddy
Kazaa
RealPlayer
....And so on
It’s funny, out of all those great ideas I would want a folder system as my top pick. I have so so many games and would LOVE to be able to file them
Pro-Cons. Cut the Pro controller in half and stick some rails on them. I have a Satisfy grip. I love it. Nintendo could do it too.
All that stuff is nice and I would love to see some of it eventually. But I'm gonna be honest, I just want more info on Animal Crossing. And maybe Pokèmon 2019. The latter I'm not jonesing too much for seeing as I'm getting my Pokèmon fix with LGE. But I really want more info soon on AC Switch.
Things to be improved for Switch :
1. White color for bundles ! And other colors too, just like 3DS.
2. Folders to organize apps.
3. Google / Yahoo.
4. More Boxing games.
5. Age rating filter to block Completely all rated M games from News Channel and eshop Buy menu.
6. Replaceable internal battery.
7. More physical games from digital only games.
8. More Mii games.
9. 32 / 64 GB Cartridge for the highest capacity Physical games.
10. No More Partial download games.
For those of you who cannot/don’t want to watch the video, allow me to bless your memory with this screenshot from it:
Bluetooth headphone support, and more retro game support are my big things. I don't care if that retro support is via NSO, or in the form of collections on a cartridge, or whatever they decide to do, so long as it works well. My biggest wants are N64, GBA, and Gamecube titles.
I also do want the remaining video apps and folders and themes. It would also be nice to be able to adjust the size of icons on the home menu and to allow more to be visible at once.
It's a good list. I'd also like to see the higher capacity Switch game cartridges released at reasonable prices for developers.
@Spoony_Tech If there is a Switch version of Mario Kart on the way, I'd love to see a return to the Double Dash style. At least as an option. That was my first Mario Kart game I bought and personally owned. So it holds a special place in my heart and was fun.
@UmbreonsPapa I also loved Double Dash! Would love to see something along those lines.
Why everyone want a switch pro for the new year? I want that the game at home run better, I want a new dock sistem. But on the go is perfect, anyway, in case a new switch ,something that improve the home gaming. The on the go is close to perfect.
@UmbreonsPapa
I think double dash was also my first I used to borrow it from my neighbor and one day they moved away and the game became mine

ps: Things Nintendolife needs to do in 2019: To change the comments thread system into a modern one where you can clearly see who replies to which comment.
For me, the most priority that Nintendo should be for 2019 is to completely fix the Nintendo Switch Online infrastructure, primarily and especially the functionality to play online games without problems.
"Need"
I'm not sure Switch "needs" anything. It just went basically 6 months - yes I know it didn't go all of 2018 without any games, I own a few - but most of the middle of 2018 had no real new games for Switch, adn it just kept selling. And now it's selling like crazy. And we know AC and MP4 and Yoshi L'sM3 and NSMBU (whatever that port is called) are coming.
So I think the only thing the Switch needs in 2019 are for the PS5 and Xbox2 to not launch until 2020. If Switch can jhave all of holiday 2019 to itself, well nto a lot of people are still going to be buying PS4 and Xbox1 holiday 2019, they'll all be waiting for the new consoles in 2020. So that's what Switch really needs, late competitor launches. And that's about it.
Switch Pro won't be necessary until 2020 when the other new consoles launch. And while folders and Netflix would be nice, they certainly aren't needs or even remotely necessary, they're just nice.
I think more than anything on that list Nintendo "needs" the dockless bundle in time for Pokemon. There may be 20 million fmailie snow with a Swtch for PokemonLEt's Go, btu when the next mainline Pokemon game launches many families are going to need more than 1 Switch, but not more than 1 dock. So Nintneod needs to release that "Second Switch" bundle in the west. $199, a console for kids. It's a much more palatable price for a kids gift than $299 for a 2nd switch. Though if they could cut the price of the current Switch to $249, make it $199 Black Friday week, that could work too.
Switch may be it's own thing, a hybrid, but people only have so much money, and so much attention, PS5 and Xbox 2 launch dates are what's really important.
But really, does anybody see Switch sales falling off any time soon? Nintneod hasn't even killed the 3DS yet. Once they stop producing that, and all game development goes onto Switch, even more game sot buy. Switch is good for another year at least, it really doens't need anything else to keep going besides games. SSBU DLC alone will keep it in the news all year long.
Switch Pro is interesting, and judging from comments/posts over the internet, I don't think most people even know what they want with it. People want an upgraded, more powerful Switch so developers can make better looking and more taxing games, but don't want there to be any exclusives for it. It's like, wut?
My most wanted additions are SNES games on NSO(hopefully with Star Fox 2) and themes/folders for the dashboard.
OMG FOLDERS! Please for the love of humanity! Folders is all I care about. But I'll take a Switch Pro too if that actually happens.
I approve of the rest of the wish list too.
I'd like to add Super Mario Odyssey DLC Kingdoms to the list.
Good list, though.
All I want is Pikmin 4 with a whole bunch of DLC.
Literally none of these things will happen
Wish I could just download a software version of the SNES and NES classics for a reasonable price.
@Spoony_Tech we dont need another mario kart. Ones enough
I'd desperately like Bluetooth headphones support (if the new rumored Switch has this, a bigger battery, a bigger screen/smaller bezels & 1080p then I'll buy it for sure)
I agree with most of the list definitely would love, love, and yes love a Nintendo64 Classic Mini ., So hoping that happens . I gave up on the browser, Netflix, themes and a much much better e-shop loadout on Switch it would be great though . I have to say the Switch has shocked me literally other than great games which is obviously all it ULTIMATELY has and needs, it really is lacking in a lot of areas especially being on the market going on two years and it is still selling at an incredible rate . The one other thing that I personally would love from Nintendo is a new more powerful 3DS . I love the stereoscopic 3D effect and really hope they don't do away with it or let it fade away it's such an amazing thing to play games in 3D on a handheld, personally it's my favorite way to play.
I just want more stability...
1. Useful
2. Definitely needed
3. I’d prefer GameCube. N64 games look terrible in the modern market.
4. Arcade GP tracks?
5. Would love.
6. Not needed. Who would buy it?
7. GameCube joycons for smash!
8. See no. 3.
9. Nothing to slow it down though. I do like the minimalism of it all.
10. Not needed. Nintendo know that online gaming is only any fun with your friends and you probably WhatsApp them every day anyway. And with all the trust issues surrounding Facebook Nintendo won’t touch that with a barge pole.
11. A must.
You forgot:
12. EU release of Dragalia
13. More stability!
@Gravitron
I don't understand why Nintendo doesn't just re-release their Virtual Boy games on the 3DS. Nintendo could tout them as an example of Virtual Console support, and it'd suit their desire to extend the shelf life of their handheld line.
As for things I'd like to see Nintendo do in 2019:
1.) Remakes or enhanced ports of Super Mario Bros Special, Punch Ball Mario Bros, and Donkey Kong 3: The Great Counterattack
2.) A new Super Mario Maker which includes support for more games in the series as well as more enemies and power-ups
3.) A Western release for Mother 3
4.) I would love to see several Satellaview games re-worked to be stand-alone titles. Super Mario USA: Power Challenge and Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets come to mind.
5.) A new Game & Watch compilation that includes Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Circus, and Donkey Kong Hockey
6.) Virtual Console for Virtual Boy games with black and white sprites, re-worked controls, and optional 3D. (I say re-worked controls because some games made use of both d-pads.)
7.) Remakes or enhanced ports of all of Nintendo's CD-I games. (Yes, I really want this.)
8.) A tongue-in-cheek, spiritual sequel to Mario is Missing! and Mario's Time Machine starring Waluigi. It could developed by AlphaDream. (This is a joke but it sounds kind of brilliant.)
9.) A Color TV-Game Mini or some kind of compilation release.
But didn't Reggie say that no N64 Mini is on the cards, nor SNES game on the Online Service?
A Switch Pro really would bother me. I mean a significantly powerful one that runs games that the standard Switch can't, à la New 3DS.
I would like them to continue to bring awesome games and also add (at least) SNES and N64 games to Nintendo Switch Online. Don't care about Netflix, a web browser and other unnecessary garbage on my Switch.
@SwitchForce Their is Bluetooth support, the freaking joycons use Bluetooth, plus Nintendo said they want to stretch out the switches lifespan like the ps4/xbox one so a new model will come soon but the rest I agree
@RadioHedgeFund For me I would get a more powerful switch for 3rd party so it won't be as blurry
In fairness while it would be awesome to have all of these things the Switch does not need any of them,it's sales prove that time and time again.
For the core audience this is like a wish list, whereas the masses just see the console for what it is,a cool piece of tech that you can play as a handheld or dock to you T.V,that has tonnes of games for it.
They will continue to buy the console in it's current state, sure a pro version would be nice, but when you consider the pretty poor sales of both the Ps4 pro and Xbox One X,which you would think there would be market for such a revision,if there was ever going to be an ideal marketplace, and they still have not sold all that well.
Media apps YES PLEASE! This is the second Christmas a colleague of mine has decided against the Switch because of the lack of media functionality. It’s crazy they still haven’t sorted this.
Folders. Goes without saying.
Bluetooth Headphone support. Again, amazing this is missing. I’d even take a revised Pro Controller with a headphone socket.
Would love an N64 Mini.
Not fussed about a Pro yet. 2020 will do. Think we might see a cut down Mini version to help move the 3DS audience over.
I don’t do Online gaming on Switch but yeah, better social connectivity options seem an obvious add.
Not fussed about MK8 DLC. Mario Kart 9 in 2020 to launch Switch Pro.
For the Switch:
Non-reflective screen
Bluetooth support
Bigger text on games
Better single-player games
Great list. Agree with all except Nintendo 64 Mini. Screw that just stick it all on switch and be done with it. No room in my living room for more consoles and controllers.
1. Switch pro: 1080p in portable mode, without black edges, better performance in portable mode and docked mode.
2. XL joy-cons
3. Metroid prime trilogy HD with motion control, wii sport resort HD and nintendoland party games, mario galaxy HD, pikmin 3 HD
4. Virtual Console with wii library
5. Cloud saves for all games, text/voice chat, folders, different themes
6. Mario Kart Deluxe DLC: new modes, new tracks.
7. New games: Metroid, Bayonetta 3, pikmin 4 etc
Switch Pro is the main one I disagree with, needs to be a cheaper Switch instead if a new model. Sure next gen is coming but even if a Switch Pro existed, the 3rd party support would be reduced because most players would still be on the base model. A Switch 2 in 2021/2022 would be more fitting.
Speaking of DLC, can we get Super Mario Party DLC? The game even seems to hint at it; perfect candidate!!
@KainXavier @Gravitron But.... it only had 22 games.... and was awful. That's a little over 10% of the amount Philips CD-i had.
Think its time for a price drop. Also i would like to see bigger discounts in e-shop like the ones playstation store offers. Other than that i don't want to buy DS games for full price (TWEWY i'm looking at you). Switch tax is ridiculous. Any third party exclusive not for 10 year old kids/Mario crossover would be cool
N64 compilation would be garbage without Rare really. N64 classic should happen because we can then hack it and add our favorite Rare games.
@Spoony_Tech @UmbreonsPapa I don't think a new Kart game would come out for Switch. It just doesn't make any sense. Will it use a new engine? 50 entirely new maps? Probably not. It would be like a second Smash game coming to Switch. Those series are a 1 per console.
Double Dash was my favorite too. I haven't played it since getting a Switch though. I think 8 just does everything better. Aside from small mechanics they really are the same game. I just wish you could switch between your two held items in 8.
@subpopz Why add another tier to Online? At the end of the day you're still just renting $20 year old games. If N64 games come, it should still be for that standard rate.
You are also incorrect on the mini. Mini appeals to people who will never buy a Switch. It can also be hacked easier (or more willingly) to add games that won't be on Switch online, or ever rereleased (Goldeneye).
Since Super Smash Ultimate is doing so well, why not a Mario Kart Ultimate. It could have every course from the history of the series. They could make it more of a Nintendo Kart game incorporating all of their properties, and they could then give us new courses from the said properties. It could then be a platform all it's own with season passes for the year giving you access to new DLC. Then, they could keep it going for as long as the Switch keeps going.
RECAP:
0. Screen comes with Temper glass protection that can be replaced.
1. Full Screen on portable edge to edge
2. 1080p portable
3. 4K docked
4. PC Software manager for Switch to backup and restore to Switch NOT from Cloud
5. More RAM
6. More Storage not just 32gb but 128, 200, 400 or 1tb or even 2tb
7. Longer battery life with portable
8. More Slots for multiple cards to be inserted.
9. Two Models Standard and Pro with extras but with added expense.
10. Allow one to customize their Switch - when they order and pay accordingly.
Not needed:
A Mini Switch that just defeats the purpose of the Switch portable itself.
My Nintendo Switch wishlist for 2019.
In no particular order:
1. Official Portable Dock
2. Official D Pad Joycon
3. SNES, N64 and Dreamcast Virtual Console
4. New F-zero
5. New Starfox
6. New Metroid
7. Netflix
8. Web browser
9. Red Dead or GTA
10. New Mario Galaxy
@KainXavier
I've never even thought of that. It would work perfectly on 3ds. I know I'm in the minority of people who actually like the Virtual Boy. But i grew up with one and i loved it. Its probably the reason i wear glasses but i liked what they were trying to do
I would love to see Metroid Prime 4 footage, and a remake of Super Mario Sunshine would also be amazing. It's the only 3D Mario that I've never played.
I absolutely agree with the second to last suggestion on this list. I realize Miiverse is never coming back, at least not like it was, but they really need to bring back some elements of it. It would be so nice to message people on my friends list. One of my "friends" (quotation marks because I don't really know him, we've just been "friends" for a few years on Miiverse and Switch) is really into racing games and we both have the game grip. It would be nice to just shoot each other a message, "Hey, I'm going to be playing tonight at 6:00" but as it is, it's almost impossible to catch each other online.
2019 also spells doom for the 3DS as all its biggest franchises (Mario Kart, Pokemon, Zelda, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon) will have moved on to Switch. If the 3DS has already seen year-on-year declines for 2018, it's expected this will only accelerate in 2019 as all these huge franchises move to Switch.
@nintendosage "2019 also spells doom for the 3DS as all its biggest franchises"
I'll believe it when I see it. I got over 300 3DS/2DS to continue. So I doubt they will kill off another cash cow til they have a replacement for New 3DS XL.
I just want more first party games. That's the biggest reason a lot of us buy Nintendo systems still. Though, I don't mind the third party exclusives, like Octopath Traveler, or ports like the Final fantasy games. But the meat of the system is their first party games, and they still have a lot of ips that don't have a game on Switch yet.
The game I want most of all, but have given up hope for is a proper Star Fox game, and maybe a good F-zero game. But a solid mainline Pokemon game, and Animal crossing will be good enough. I really hope Gamefreak takes advantage of the massive hardware jump. That game needs to be good for the 2019 holiday season.
As a side not, more of the Mario slorts games wouldn't hurt. I wouldn't mind a Super Mario Strikers or Mario baseball game, at any point in the future.
DLC for current first party games would be nice as well. Especially for MK8, if we're not getting a MK9 anytime soon. That is still consistently one of my top played games for couch multiplayer. Super Mario Party could always use more content as well, as I think they spread themselves thin across multiple game modes this time.
The thing I don't understand is why they axed VC as it was. I'd kill for a lot of their first party N64 games on the Switch. Starfox 64, Mario Party 1-3, Smash 64, Pokemon Stadium 1-2, Super Mario 64, etc. Tons of good games I'd buy, or would at least enjoy on the online service.
That being said, I'd settle for some SNES games. While I enjoy the NES, the SNES is where games truly started getting good. I'd also like Starfox 2 on my switch and not the SNES mini I don't feel like fumbling with. As a collector, I like the mini classic systems. But as a gamer who already has multiple systems, and associated wiring, cluttering my gaming set-up. I would rather things be simplified down. Lol
@The_Mysteron most of your list will probably come true. Red Dead is super unlikely without totally murdering the game. GTA is more likely but I still dont see it coming. The only Rockstar game on switch is LA Noire which isnt really that demanding graphically or memory wise. The last time a GTA game came out on a nintendo console was Chinatown wars on DS about 10 years ago.
Most of this is just simple stuff, but it needs to be done anyways. Though I'd rather see a Mario Kart 9 than more DLC for Wii U ports. Looking at you Pokken DX.
@JackEatsSparrows
Most of those 22 titles were very good. In fact, I can name at least 7 that were worth playing and that accounts for half of the games released in North America.
Edit:
Mario Tennis, Mario Clash, Wario Land, Panic Bomber, Red Alarm, Teleroboxer, and Jack Bros are the 7 that come to mind. I've also heard good things about Nester's Funky Bowling, V-Tetris, and Waterworld.
@Gravitron
If you're in the minority, I'm right there with you. I'm not going to pretend that the system wasn't without its faults but I think a lot of people dismiss the Virtual Boy and its games without ever having experienced either.
Also, in regards to your vision, I think anybody that stares at a TV or a computer monitor long enough will eventually become near-sighted. My vision was much better when I actively played the Virtual Boy than it is now.
@Painay so you want ports, but not too many. That's very vague!
@Mr_Horizon haha oh yeah thats pretty contradicting. I dont mind quality ports but would like new material they didnt have much in 2018
@Gravitron "The last time a GTA game came out on a nintendo console was Chinatown wars on DS about 10 years ago."
Chinatown wars was great. I loved the drug economy. A great way to make quick cash. Also, the top down view for driving was never better than in that game.
@KryptoniteKrunch A lot of us want a Switch Pro for better performance on current and future games. Similar to how the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have iterations that offer higher performance or graphical fidelity. A lot of current games could benefit from this, as they already utilize variable resolution, and framerate, to keep things running smooth.
A Switch Pro would likely be able to stay on the higher end, or even lock it to the max resolution/framerate, we currently have. They could also add more internal storage and, potentially, decrease load times with a hardware revision. Not to mention, removing the black bars, and increasing screen size for handheld play. This would all be an improvement, without necessarily causing compatibility issues.
I know I'd personally buy another Switch if two or more of these improvements were made.
Release BATMAN ARKHAM CITY ARMORED EDITION Switch remaster
I'd love to have a trophy/achievement system for the Switch.
Not a bad list. I don't really have anything to add to it lol
@UmbreonsPapa
Double Fash is still my favorite in the series.
