When Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé was spotted in September wearing a Metroid t-shirt alongside Geoff Keighley, rumours began to circulate that a special announcement would be made at The Game Awards. We're now days out from the annual event held in Los Angeles, so what can we expect?

According to Swedish retailer Inet, the Metroid Prime Trilogy is being released on the Nintendo Switch in February 2019. This is where it gets a bit weird, as the retailer claims the product is just a rumour in the translation but suspects the game will be announced at the Game Awards later this week. Swedish users over on ResetEra, have stated Inet is a "reliable" retailer.

It's worth mentioning the Switch ports of Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 were unveiled by Reggie at last year's Game Awards prior to Bayonetta 3. This has led to speculation the Metroid Prime Trilogy will pave the way for a Metroid Prime 4 reveal. Earlier this week, German retailer MediaMarkt also listed the Assassin's Creed Compilation for multiple platforms including the Switch.

Metroid Prime Trilogy by Retro Studios and Nintendo was originally released in 2009 and includes the first two entries from the GameCube generation and the final one from the Wii generation.
