Last week, Koei Tecmo teased a new game for multiple platforms including the Nintendo Switch. The website for this title featured a flame-filled background and noted how the "fated battle" would begin on 6th December.
It turns out the announcement was for the next entry in the horse racing simulation series, Winning Post. This week's issue of Famitsu revealed the news slighter earlier than expected. The teaser website is now also showing a pair of horses in the background of the existing image. Winning Post 9 is expected to be released on the Switch in March 2019 and will likely remain exclusive to Japan.
Are you surprised by this announcement? Have you played this series before? Tell us below.

GotY right here, ladies and gents.
I hope it has boobs!
And here we were setting ourselves up for disappointment
Crickets chirping
...Well, on the other hand, I can fully commit to Warriors Orochi 4 and Fire Emblem Warriors once I get them, as well as keep on playing Hyrule Warriors' Adventure Mode.
Damn, i was expecting Samurai Warriors 5...
Oh no.
Now I will have to wait even longer for Dynasty Warriors 9 Xtreme Definitive Edition.
Wow... boy do i feel dumb lol.
fart noises
Great Jorb, Koei.
Nioh 2 is the only Koei Tecmo game I care about. They would have said something at E3 if it was coming to Switch.
Wow, what horse $#!+. The only thing more disappointing would be a Ninja Gaiden pachinko machine. I’m sure the twelve people they were hoping to enthrall with this announcement are super jazzed. Alas, I am not one of those twelve.
When we asked for superb third party support, this is not at all what came to mind. And yet, we have this and Konami's Hyper Sports R to look forward to. FML
Can’t tell if they wanted to troll or this was just a bad business decision. Probably both. You could say that Koei is sort of an ass.
Lmao. I'll wait for more details before deciding on buying this
That's going to be a PR nightmare for them now.
............
....Really?
Really?
................ cuz screw the gamers, amirite?
@UltraKamiTenshi Horse boobs to compete with horse testicles in Red dead 2
I'm not getting tricked again! I bought their game "Champion Jockey Special" because I thought horse racing might be fun, and even if there's no English, how hard could it be to figure out a horse racing game? REALLY %#$@ HARD!!! The menu system is a massive and complex mess that you'll never figure out from trial and error, and I still have no idea what's going on with the motion controls. If they gave the game an English translation, I'd actually be interested.
What we expected: Ninjas! Samurais! Big-breasted anime women! Bloody adrenaline-pumping action!
What we got: Cute horsies running in circles with complex management and simulation
I'd say that's a fair trade...
Its actually better than "you-know-what-series". I mean, it was unexpected at least.
I apologize, but seriously some of you make me laugh of your comments of the disappointed that are, and as always, because some of you "idealize" that it will be the announcement of something that you want, but it is not what the company wants announce; STOP!!! supposing things, but, oh well...
ah, but, that's right, according to some of you, the fault is Tecmo Koei because they can't "present" their product as they want and a game that has public, right?, right?, oh boy....
RIP Monster Farm / Rancher series from TECMO.
Meanwhile, Pokemon & Digimon are still compete each other.
And let us hope that the horses feature Red Dead-like levels of enhancement! This truly is the best game console generation yet!
@Anti-Matter That’s not true at all. The recent Digimon videogames have not been in the style of Pokémon, the anime was only recently rebooted, and they don’t even make trading cards anymore.
Good joke koei
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
It makes sense. After all the updates Switch is very stable
@SmaggTheSmug
Hay man, hoove do you think you are, dragging us back into horse jokes? I think that you should rein it in, in the mane. I say neigh to this.
Weeeeeeeeeell these kind of games do ok in Japan, not so unexpected after all by a japanese company which mostly invests on japanese customers.
2019 is shaping up to be the stuff of legends!
It was a joke guys. A Christmas joke.
Surely I'm not the only person excited for g1 jockey?
Ya, but will it have shrinking horse balls like Read Dead 2 has?
The ad was aimed at Japan, otherwise Koei would have supplied a similar English-language teaser.
I don't know what everybody was getting worked up about.
Quite frankly, the sheer quantity of Warriors games on Switch at the moment is absolutely ridiculous. Where is that Dead or Alive V port at?! It beggars belief that we're getting a port of the butt-bumping perve fest that is Xtreme over a port of a main series Dead or Alive game...
It was unnecessary to announce it like that. Also because it will never beat the best horse racing game in the world.

Damn, I thought my Super Tecmo Bowl Warriors: Jerry Rice eXtreme Legends was a sure bet 😕
The "fated battle"? More like baited cattle...
Only fools and horses, man, only fools and horses...
I felt like screaming, both in glee and anger, but my throat is a bit hoarse...
I’ve learnt that whenever Japanese 3rd party publishers make such teases, its either for a Mobile Game or something far below any expectations I’d hope or desire.
Do we really need more of these on Switch? Booo.
Darn. It’s not the Road Rash style Dynasty Warriors game I was hoping for, except with horses instead of motorcycles.
@Silly_G That might become a priority after DOA 6 is done with.
GAME OF THE YEAR
MASTAPEECE
DUNKEY CERTIFIED
AND THEN THERE'S SUPAH MARIO BROTHERS 2 BAYBEE
are you fracking kidding me?
Well, at least they didn't change horses midstream.
That`s even worse than a Warriors game lol
Maybe Koei Tecmo should team up with Cygames and make an Uma Musume: Pretty Derby game for Switch and the PlayStation 4! (etc?)
(What??? They are Horse Racing Girls)
@diablo2 Well there must be an audience for it or they wouldn’t bother
@thefly0810 Please make this happen
@Antraxx777 Yup...agree. And on that note, thats why Nintendo needs to give certain IPs another chance. F-Zero, Wave Race, and Punch-Out come to mind.
These games sold relatively well — not great, but their respective consoles were not exactly known for moving lots of software (hence the reason why they need to try again). The Switch is an entirely different beast.
I guess Nintendo has set the bar very high over the years, saleswise. So anything that only sells ~2 million is not that exciting to them anymore, leading them to abandon it.
I'm not mad. As long as Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Scarlett is uncensored on Switch, and is independent of Sony's censorship policies. Give me that glorious plot in all of its glory.
“Man, I’m really looking forward to that horse racing game.” - no one, ever
is this... some kind of april joke?? wtf is going on with all those horse riding games right now??
