In a frankly staggering report, it has been revealed that Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! was the fourth best-selling product on Black Friday last week.
The information comes from Adobe Analytics, which analyses "billions of data points across Adobe Experience Cloud" to collect insights for online retail and e-commerce; digging a little deeper, this data is gathered from transactions made at 80 of the top 100 retail sites in the US. The company has shared a tool which allows you to check trends for recent days - the screenshot we've taken below shows you the result for Black Friday.
As you can see, the new Pokémon titles narrowly beat PS4 exclusive God of War in the sales race, and were only outsold by laptops, L.O.L Surprise dolls, and Finglerlings toys. Interestingly, the Switch then became the fourth best-selling item the day after (Small Business Saturday).
Whether or not we'll see similar trends take place today on Cyber Monday remains to be seen, but the statistics shown in the report so far are pretty crazy; Pokémon Let's Go was still a brand new game without Black Friday discounts, so buyers were clearly choosing it over other discounted holiday gift ideas.
You learn something new every day.

Was actually more surprised by the PS4 game myself.
It got beat out by not only laptops, and a pair of silly toys. I'm actually surprised it sold that much.
What the hell is LOL Surprise?
The items in ranks 1, 2, and 3 are lines of multiple items, not just one item. Even though we don't know if "top-selling" means in quantity or in dollars, the fact that one (well, "two") Pokemon game stacks up favorably with entire product and toy lines is amazing. I would expect the entire "Pokemon" line of products to finish fourth, not just the new game.
@NightBeast A line of dolls that somehow got really popular. As if we've never seen them before.
I have bought LOL toys/products/things for my niece and I still have no idea what it's all about.
I spent, I think, £15 on this little party popper type thing. It's pink, plastic, you pull a cord and confetti stuff falls out. You just can't buy entertainment like that.
Oh no, you can actually, it's £15 and it's a waste of my money. Still, looking forward to buying more of it around Christmas...
LOVE the pikachu shocked image for the page, lol
I'm surprised to see it beat GOW considering it was on sale for $20 .
The fact a full price Let's Go beat a hugely discounted God of War suggests this list is based on Revenue rather than units, but I guess either is technically possible. Great performance!
And GoW had orange clearance stickers slapped on every case.
It's so nice seeing Pokemon Let's Go dominate. Because its a fantastic game (truly, its fantastic and the first to get me into Pokemon) and it had everything going against it. Yet it still rose above it all.
Remember when people said this game was going to fail hard? LOL. Very rarely do I see a fandom scream so much hatred at a product which manages to please so many people. It certainly has its flaws (the forced motion controls are literally the worst I've ever played on a Nintendo console) and I'm worried about the pricing and the future of this "series" (I would much rather Gold/Silver DLC than a new $60 game...) but regardless, this game is a success. I don't know any other way to put it besides "It's a success."
No way, I thought the Christmas gift of 2018 was LABO... 🙃
Have a couple as Christmas gifts. Had to give one early at Thanksgiving and he walked around all night with it showing people
Knowing what videogame to get is the easiest way to be "Favorite Uncle" 🙂
@raygboyd333 You're very welcome. It's my proudest achievement of the day so far. 😉
And it wasn't even on sale.
@LoriLoud Yeah, thanks) I just found out that my niece has a tonn of them and I didn't even know what they are called)
Not surprised at all. I was at the mall on Friday (I don't do early-morning Black Friday madness but I will go shopping later on and pick up some ridiculous deals on movies and clothes) and Let's Go kept on coming up in random people's conversations I overheard. It is the Hotness right now. They're going to move a lot of Switches this season, between PLG and Smash.
In Swiss, we only have search-results. And on the largest swiss comparsion website, toppreise.ch, the most searched products were iPhone and Nintendo Switch. Should be a good year end race for Nintendo
@ryancraddock
"In a frankly staggering report..."
I am hereby requesting that every article starts with these words, regardless of content! 😆
This is bad news for me....I still need to exchange Eevie for Pikachu since they sent me the wrong one.....I'm somewhat afraid that I won't be getting my replacement now.....
Guys. Lets be real. It's parents buying the game for their kids for christmas. Pokemon is a massive franchise that almost every kid loves! Who wouldn't get it discounted on black friday over paying full price if they had the chance?
@NightBeast cheese
Honestly not that surprised considering it's a Pokemon and this was released during holiday season.
"It's just a spin-off. Nobody will care about Let's Go. Everyone will just wait until next year's game."
I honestly thought I wouldn't buy this game. I wasn't impressed with it at PAX.
But somehow, someway, Let's Go Eevee is sitting in my library. And I am enjoying it more than I thought I would.
@MysticGengar Was it on discount though?
Speaking of PLGP/PLGE, what's the main difference between the two game besides mascot lead character?
@Quarth
Likely by a small bit. Although, if I was on a shopping spree I would have picked it up when i was there!
@BubbleMatrix82 The main difference IS the mascot lead character. Other than that, there are a handful of exclusive Pokemon to each version (Pikachu gets Sandshrew, Eevee gets Vulpix, etc etc). Also some props in the game world are different, and some NPC events are very slightly changed.
@MysticGengar According to the article, Let’s Go wasn’t discounted at all.
@westman98 Or, circa 1998... "Pokemon is just another fad. Within a year or two it will go the way of pogs..."
Well there have been no negative trolls around for a while, what could have happened? Ohh right let's go is selling and people are enjoying hahahaha
L.O.L. Surprise? What?
Edit: Answered above. You can't expect me to keep up on all the latest trends! I know how that guy from Dewford Town feels....
Here's all we need to know.
"Pokémon Let's Go was still a brand new game without Black Friday discounts, so buyers were clearly choosing it over other discounted holiday gift ideas."
Loved it , have 10 master trainers to go
Really impressive beating GoW considering its on a system with a much higher install base and the game itself went as low as $17-$20. The folks that doubted Pokemon sure have egg on their faces now. 😁
@JaxonH It's called Black Friday sales
@Octane
Did... I... somehow imply I wasn't aware of the reason? 🤔
I have no doubt that people are enjoying the slightly upgraded Pokémon experience with Surfing/following/etc., the QoL of its wild encounters, or heck just the fact that it's Gen 1 (sells) of Pokémon (also sells).
But is anyone really surprised? This is Nintendo's busiest time of the year and there weren't many crazy good deals, either.
And don't confuse sales for quality or positive reception because those can depend on the predecessor entry (see: Megaman Battle Network 4), accessibility, or other external factors.
LOL Surprise is real life loot boxes.
As much smack as I talked about this game, I have to say I love it. I am at Victory Road now and I am sad it is going to end. It is so frickin cute.
Laptops still going strong? Imagine what the real Pokémon RPG will do next season...
I’m not surprised Pokémon is selling so well. The real question I will find interesting is how well Smash does compared to Pokémon Let’s Go. I think my money may be on the Pokémon game 🤔
@KingBowser86 you know as far as 1st party Switch content I agree with you that not much was on sale (DK- ick). However I think 3rd party sales more than made up for it in my opinion- especially when you consider eshop and physical sales. Doom, Skyrim, Wolf 2? I know those games have been out on Switch for awhile now but they’ve also been hanging out at an over $50 price tag since release. Those just being a small fraction of games on sale. Overall this was a good year I think.
@Mamabear Fair, though I was thinking of Black Friday in general since the article was talking about things like LOL or laptops.
Seriously 2 and 3 don't make any sense.
Nice presents under the tree this year.
Edit: Looking at the Lol surprise, once again I am so happy to be an adult. If an aunt had bought me that I would have been livid. There is always that one aunt....
This fanbase makes me sick. What kind of standards of quality do these fans have that they're happy to waste $60 on such a barren game?
@Quarth
I saw it on discount for 5 bucks off somewhere.
@Syrek24
agreed, enjoying this pokemon game more than most others in the past, including the recent sun/moon versions. It's refreshing to choose which wild pokemon you encountner, and I prefer the candy system over the EV system. Lastly, it is visually pleasing compared to playing on a crappy 3ds screen.
@Mamabear
Smash, while being an awesome game, does not have the fan base that pokemon has, so I don't see it being able to match the sales figures of PLGP and PLGWE.
@Bolt_Strike ”Sob sob... People like things I don’t like!”
We will get gen 8 next year. Hold out!
@KingBowser86 Ah yes.. Since not much was on sale (that I was interested in) I didn’t have to brave the crowds. I was rather disappointed in deals for young children’s toys/ things. I was definitely missing Toys R Us this year.
@Light I agree that Pokémon will outperform Smash. While playing PLGP I was thinking how smart this game was in terms of releasing it before a new mainline Pokémon title. It’s so accessible that I think many who are new to the series or have been out of the loop for awhile will drive back in with the next title. I was just thinking with the push Ninty has been giving Smash that it may do better.
