There's no hiding the fact Bethesda are big fans of the Nintendo Switch. Since the launch of the system, we've seen the company release Skyrim and bring across DOOM and Wolfenstein as well. In an interview in July, Todd Howard said Bethesda would certainly be doing things on the system in the future, which was then followed by the announcement of DOOM Eternal at this year's QuakeCon.
Speaking to IGN about the new Doom game at the 2018 Gamescom, Bethesda senior vice president of global marketing and communications Pete Hines said the demand for the company's titles on the Switch had been huge so far - encouraging them to stay out in front of the competition:
It was hugely popular – all of the stuff that we did. I think folks enjoyed and appreciated – and we wanted to make sure to say right up front that this is a title we want to bring to Switch, and we think it’s gonna be another awesome experience.
It's great to hear Bethesda's hard efforts have paid off, and once again proves Switch owners are open to multiple types of video game experiences. Have you been enjoying Bethesda's releases on the Nintendo's system? Tell us below.

I love to see this... a company takes a risk that other, bigger companies aren't willing to do and they come out ahead. I hope the big boys take note (hint: they will)
Quality games sell. Funny how that works.
Hopefully this finally puts the myth that the Bethesda games didn't do well on Switch to rest.
I enjoyed Doom, I played Skyrim for like 10 hours but I supported them, I need to pick up Wolfenstein.
Good to hear. All 3 have been great games on the Switch and I’m looking forward forward to seeing what they can do with the new Doom, and presumably a Fallout game.
@PanurgeJr and sad each of the countless times it doesn't.
I would have bought two copies of Wolfenstein II at full price if they bothered to use 32GB cartridges (being the Aussie and censored German/Austrian versions). Now I'm buying neither, and if I do it will only be when the Aussie version is dirt cheap. They already severed my goodwill by imposing an 8GB download for DOOM. Coupled with the Wolfenstein download and that's already 10% of a 200GB's microSD card's usable storage.
As much as I love Doom and Wolfenstein, I can't get excited at all without knowing the manner in which Bethesda will opt to release Doom Eternal at retail.
It's even more insulting knowing that their games have been tremendously successful and yet they have opted to release a substandard product. DOOM and Skyrim have both maintained their value at retail in the year since they have been released, so they are obviously selling in high enough volumes to not require a price drop, so any argument to suggest that Doom/Wolfenstein would not have been profitable with a 32GB cartridge holds no water at all.
I own all 3 and look forward to more from Bethesda.
Good for them but I would had more respect for them had they not make a big deal about customer selling new pre-owned sealed copy of their games online. It really makes me question why they would worry about someone reselling an already pre-owned game just that it was still sealed. Bethesda I'll let this slide for now but there better be no dumb decision coming from you guys in the future.
Not a fan of their games, but at least they're liking and supporting the Switch........UNLIKE EA!!!
As someone who has only owned Nintendo platforms, I absolutely loved being able to play Skyrim. I hope to keep supporting all the Bethesda Switch games that I can.
I'm a realist and obviously don't expect everything they put out to be playable on Switch, however, I'm sure if it is possible then they will. I've enjoyed Doom and will pick up Eternal for sure and Skyrim is on order for me. I've thought about Wolfenstein and while I don't mind the series I'm not in a rush to play but will at some point. I had twenty something hours out of Fallout Shelter without spending any money which is pretty good for a free game. Id like to see Fallout 4 from them if possible. Overall I've been pretty happy with Bethesdas support and I'd like to see Ubisoft take similar chances I mean so far great job from them but give me Assassins Creed Rogue remastered and The Ezio Collection and I'd be happy with westen third party support. The only other titles I am really desperate for ports of is The Witcher 3 (a game I would put in my top five of all time) and something from EAs solid line up of games.
Can we please have Skyrim Survival Mode on Switch?
Replaying Skyrim on my fancy mobile Switch has been a blast. The perfect reason to go back and revisit Tamriel. Hope to see lots more from 'em!
Bethesda is doing a great job with the switch, better than any other third party, hope to see more games from them in the future
You can bet that when I get a Switch, Skyrim will be a member of my library. The only ES game I've played was the first couple of hours of Oblivion on a relative's Xbox 360 years ago; needless to say I enjoyed it!
Goes to show a great port will sell on a Nintendo console. So many third party developers do underwhelming ports and expect the game to sell. Bethesda actually delivered and gamers supported them.
I hope they will give us a MAIN fallout game. Which one?
It does not matter which one. I just want to play fallout on the train. Give them all if possible.
Good to hear! Big fan of Skyrim on Switch, I'll probably pick up Doom and Wolfenstein next year (Pretty booked the rest of the year)
I still haven't taken the plunge on DOOM 2016 yet, I plan on rectifying that relatively soon. However, I find this news hilarious as it's contrary to some of the NL trolls' message. They insist that Nintendo is irrelevant and third-party software doesn't sell well on Nintendo devices, but articles like this refute their claims. WHAT DO I BELIEVE?!
Nice to hear! Now bring Fallout!
Give me Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 or better yet, an exclusive Fallout built for the Switch! That's what I want to see from them.
Yeah... still playing Skyrim almost a year later due to so many other games on my Switch, Xbox One X, and PS4 Pro. Backlog is ridiculous.
Keep up the good work Bethesda, DOOM is an amazing game that I enjoyed on Switch even after getting the platinum trophy on the PS4 version, whilst Skyrim was amazing to play after suffering through the PS3 version many years ago. They really do make some of my favourite games at the moment and I would love to see Dishonoured on Switch and something like New Vegas, or how about all of the earlier DOOM and Quake games 😁
As for the future, well DOOM Eternal is comfortably my most anticipated game alongside my avatar, I'll definitely be getting on PC at launch but will likely get the Switch version at some point
skyrim is still the king of the open world rpg n if I could pick but one game to take to hell with me that would be it. I would also love to see fallout 3 will come to the switch n I predict it will one day..
That's great. I haven't bought any of their games on Switch yet, because they were pretty cheap on the PS4 by the time they were released on the Switch. But if DOOM Eternal is released on all platforms simultaneously, I'll most likely get the Switch version. I would wait a few months, even.
Yup. I have Skyrim, DOOM and Wolfenstein 2 on Switch. Really enjoy all of them and can't wait for more. DOOM Eternal will be awesome and I hope we get a Fallout game before too long. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Rage 2.
Wolfenstein was fantastic and I’m sure to start Skyrim soon. Good things are happening!
the people who oppose the switch and don't believe that they are having huge success, then why is Eternal coming to switch? if Bethesda didn't think the switch wasn't doing good would they have a say into on Doom Eternal not coming to the switch? Im curious on your responds.
@Joeynator3000 100% agree. I don’t want any of the games they’ve put out so far, but I’m glad they’re there for the people that do.
@Orin41 face your fears n play that game. I hate bloated games (time is precious) but this open world is so rewarding it truly is a meaningful experience
@Silly_G the difference here is that now there is experience with the switch which wasn't fully there with wolfenstein 2 and in case of doom it was a port while the new doom will be more built from the ground up for switch.
Well i for one own all their games and intend to keep buying all their games, their some of the best games available on the Switch, lets be real.
Did you hear that, Ubisoft? That is the sound of the checks you could be cashing if you would stop with the board game titles and carnival party games and put your real AAA titles on the Switch.
Like a few others, I’ve not indulged in their offerings (other than shelter), just because they’re not my interest. But I’m very glad so many people are interested and supporting these titles. Two of my friends bought Skyrim. I know once a fallout drops at least three people will be all over it, myself included. I don’t even need a new one. I’ll take Fallout 3 with all DLC, please
I like the idea of porting an older game or two to the Switch and then see what kinda response it gets and if it’s good then go all in. Hopefully the same thing will happen with Dark Souls and Diablo 3
I've got Doom and Skyrim and they did a fine job with them so I'm likely on board with Doom Eternal - if it's all in the physical card for me to buy. I only didn't buy Wolfenstein because of that. Make it fit, or make single player fit like Doom so it's ok out of the box.
I own Skyrim and doom on switch and I love both of them and can’t wait for doom eternal.
Works for me.
Fallout 3 Todd Howard, that's all I want on Switch! C'mon, I've been itching to play it, and a Switch port would be really awesome!
@aromain150 agreed all would be good but imagine a special fallout hd collection.
NintendoLife should do a poll to see how many people from this site bought a Bethesda game, and which one. It would be interesting to see what they consider "hugely popular".
Bethesda games have always quickly become my favorite games on any system, so the more, the merrier!
I hope they try to bring TES VI to the Switch.
I'm having a blast playing Skyrim for the first time - after everyone else on earth. I've played 25 hours and I don't think I've even scratched the surface. I've managed to get to level 10 and completed 5 companions quests and I have lots of of quests to do in the logbook.
@Silly_G time to accept 32GB carts are not coming. You are waiting for something that is never gonna happen
@bert0503 you are going bit OTT with this so many developers put out underwhelming ports on Switch.
Love to know what this so many list of games looks like.
Love these developers.
i hope they stay on board!
Nice to see so many developers happy with their games sales on Switch. It seems to be a very different userbase to previous Nintendo systems. Bethesda deserve the success too, for some very high quality games.
Bethsheda are doing an amazing job bringing fantastic games to switch and to a Nintendo machine. I don’t own any other consoles, my son has an Xbox1 but I feel no need to wrestle it from him when we are getting such fantastic games in a multi function machine.
Fallout 3 port.... or vegas. Or even a classic like oblivion
@Orin41
There is a lot of content but optional. I played through the main story and all the DLC in 60 hours and in that time-frame I already did some sidequests. So it is actually up to you how much time you want to spend with it. I stopped playing after the main stories have finished but I can see myself to return to Skyrim because there are places I haven't yet visited.
@electrolite77
Agreed. I think many people that had stopped gaming, felt they'd grown out of gaming or felt too busy, love the Switch platform. Myself included.
They've made it appeal far beyond its core Nintendo fanboy following - which is a good thing for everyone and for upcoming releases.
My only annoyance is that switch physical games are pricey all year round. There never seems to be a decent sale for physical games which is something the other platforms benefit from quite regularly.
@Silly_G "These games are too expensive, I can get them on PS4 for 8.99$"
Does that sound familiar ? I don't get how having a larger than usual cartridge, and therefore charging even more for the game is going to be good for business.
Furthermore, I'm pretty sure microSD space is cheaper than SwitchCartridge space.
Bethesda's hard work? Didn't they pay panicbutton to do the actual work? 😁
Other 3rd parties who haven’t taken the plunge yet should take notice to this article!!
Fallout is the one I'm waiting for.
On another note: I hope you guys boycott Dark Souls Remastered for Switch. Not only have they done the stuff you already heard about (hard delay, no info, letting us wait for so long, almost 6 months after other platforms), they announced Dark Souls Trilogy for PS4 and Xbox One AND it releases at the same day as Dark Souls for Switch.
Why can't every developer be like Bethesda? Bamco and FROM Software don't seem to care at all.
DOOM is so good, I can't recommend it enough, I had so much fun with it! I will be getting Wolf2 when I'm ready and I'm so excited for DOOM Eternal. Keep up the great work!
@edgedino
I would be dreaming!
Still hoping for a Fallout collection.
@geheimxy we already been through this on the actual topic when it came up.
We won't be boycotting Dark Souls because the trilogy costs £80... The trilogy includes the remastered (for £40) and the other two games for £20 each... Considering the other two games individually costs £15 each and have been available on the system for 3+ years... They are over pricing the trilogy.
Also the cost of the remastered is £40 on the Switch anyway (same price on all systems), also word is they are currently developing the second one for the Switch (these things take time to port).
And final point, Dark Souls trilogy selling for £80 on the other systems wont actually sell well. Anyone who already owns a copy of dark souls wont pay £80 for the other two when they can get it cheaper individually and someone whos never played it before wont pay 80 to "try and see" if they like it. Which begs the question, who is this marketed for? (Collector's)
Im going to be supporting Dark Souls Remastered + Bamco 100% on the Switch...
I will also be supporting Blizzard, Ubisoft, RockStar, Bethesda and any other developers that bring their games
@Powerballad
But prices staying high will help attract publishers to the Switch. On other systems it’s a race to the bottom price-wise as users have been conditioned to wait for prices to collapse before buying which isn’t healthy. If Switch users are demonstrating they’re happy to pay a higher price for good software-as they constantly have to with Nintendo’s own games-there’s nothing wrong with that.
I still need to pick up Skyrim. I've just been waiting for a sale. Really enjoyed Doom and Wolfenstein though. Bethesda, Id, and Machine Games know how to make a great shooter. Bring on Doom Eternal!
@geheimxy
You want people to boycott DS on Switch because on other systems they’ve bundled it with two games already on those systems in a high-priced Collectors Edition?
No. Not a reason to boycott in my eyes.
@aromain150 Even better if you can play fallout on a train that is really just an NPC's head.
(I really hope this reference isn't too obscure)
I've picked up all the Bethesda's releases so far. They keep bringing quality games I'll keep buying them. Can't wait for Doom: Eternal.
I have Skyrim on my Xbox one x, but the switch is my favorite place to play it. I hope the put fallout 3 on as well. I bought doom and wolfenstein ii as well, but the look seriously fuzzy compared to their 4K counterparts.
It's still bizarre to me that they didn't launch Creation Club on literally the only platform it made any sense to put it on.
@geheimxy GTFO with that boycott BS. You are on own! Why would anyone who was planning to get DS Remastered on switch be bothered about the DS trilogy release. It's a re-release of existing software at a premium price.
I see so many " i hope they bring Fallout 3"
I like Fallout 3 and New Vegas but you guys know the Switch could easily handle Fallout 4?
I mean if it handled remastered Skyrim (made for the first ps4 and xbox one) and Doom then it won't have any issues with Fallout 4...
I want Fallout 4, ive not played it and i do enjoy Fallout, not as much as Elder Scrolls though.
Really though i am a HUGE Bethesda fan, always have been, since before they supported Nintendo, now that they do support Nintendo, i will even buy games from them that i dont intend to play (not that there are any).
@Giygas_95 Skyrim has already been reduced from it's original price, but there might be another drop/sale for the holidays though.
@kobashi100 32GB cards already exist. Dragon Quest Heroes 1 + 2 in Japan comes on one 32GB card.
@Knuckles-Fajita I know they exist. We have been over this for years now. They are too expensive to produce and publishers are not gonna use them. People waiting to see them finally used are gonna be waiting forever. It's not gonna happen
@kobashi100 Been over this for years huh? Despite the Switch not even being out for two?
What planet are you on that cycles the sun that fast?
Fallout Mushroom Kingdom, here we come!
With this success, other 3rd parties should take notice. I want a nice Metal Gear Solid 1-4 collection on Switch!
Okay, Bethesda. If you are so happy with sales, then i'm challenging you - release one of the fallouts on Switch or maybe even Fallout 76
@Razer - of course it's possible to port F4, but there is one problem. F4 is full of garbage that was even hard to handle for other platforms in the year of the release. Bethesda would need to work really hard to first remove lot's of that sh*t and after that optimize to make it work on Switch. I thinkt that this is too much work for them and they will not release F4 for Switch. But believe me if they will i would be happy as you
About 3rd party developers - still lot's of developers are not thinking about releasing games or at least porting for Switch. That's why we need to show them that it's worth it, by buying games already released by one of the devs. Personally i bought Skyrim for Switch to show my support (i even did not installed the game on Switch, becaus i played it 100 of times on PC).
@Tibob
I am pretty sure, it isn't. Because, as far as I know, read-only storage is cheaper to produce than read-and-write storage.
Ouch. That's gotta sting. I remember all the "Bethesda game have failed on Switch, that's all you're gonna see this generation mark my words" posts.
So I'm relishing in this. [breathes in.... ahhhhh] Mmm, yes... it feels good.
@Knuckles-Fajita
He's right ya know. They're never gonna use em. Not unless it's a Nintendo game or Nintendo funded game. The trend has already been set. Put DQ Heroes 1/2 on a plaque in the hallway, cause it'll likely be the first and only 3rd party game to use one. And the only reason for that is probably the fact it was a launch title and Nintendo didnt want anything that would impede its launch. I imagine that cart was subsidized by Nintendo, that or it was SE one good deed for the generation.
Maybe we'll see a game or two here and there use one before the Switch 2 releases, but it'll most definitely be the rare exception and not the rule.
@MrBlacky
Not as simple as that : when you're producing micro-SD, you can produce millions and millions of units. A game like Wlof won't sell more than 2millions (that's already very optimistic). Plus it's a very specific format.
But you might be right, idk.
Where's Fallout 4 and We Happy Few for Nintendo Switch??? We need Spyro reignited trilogy was huge success on Switch. What do you think?
First Person View on SKYRIM looks like Nintendo Switch VR Headset and Joycon able to use shield and slash movement. That's Wonderful Idea I can try SKYRIM on Switch VR Headset. XD
@Alber-san,
Yes that sounds like a good idea,run a poll on a small internet forum to see how popular something is.
@JaxonH remember DQ heroes was priced very high. Admittedly two games but the price was high and no doubt it was due to costs of cart production.
S-E then went and decided not to release in the west. Again I wouldn't be surprised if that was due to the RRP of the software needed to claw back them cart costs.
I played Skyrim; I read that it was a game that you don't really finish and I haven't. I may return to it someday. I played soon after Zelda and could not help making comparisons. Zelda won being new, but if I played a new Zelda in a couple of years on the Switch and a new Skyrim on PS4, I think Skyrim would win.
Let's hope Bethesda are thinking of new games for the Switch and not games new to the Switch.
@Razer
Fallout 4 runs poorly even on XB1X, whereas Doom is 4K60. I really think FO4 would struggle on Switch, in fact is probably impossible.
Why do some people think Switch owners are entitled to third party exclusives when they’re as rare as unicorn poo on every format these days?
Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters please.
@Angelic_Lapras_King that would basically become like Super Mario RPG. There'll be one entry and much later on, the internet will scream for a sequel.
And by all of that, I mean I would love Bethesda to make a Mario RPG, that would be very interesting.
Release a quality port of a quality game and it will sell.
If only Ubi and EA had known this tightly kept secret during the Wii and Wii U days.
@IronMan30 I was merely joking. The day a frozen Waluigi wakes up to a post apocalyptic Mushroom kingdom fending off radioactive Drybones is the day Nintendo stops caring about the children. XD
give us fallout 4 please, it can be done.
i remember metal gear phantom pain on xbox360 wich almost look like a next gen game, so why is fallout 4 impossible?
it doesn't have to hold all special effect, but we need games of the like of mass effect and fallout.
I have only Doom, but I will get doom eternal when it comes out. If Bethesda makes dishonored def edition, I will get it for the switch
Didnt bought them, I already played the games or I didn't get intested in them, but I'm glad to see that they have been successful, it's always good to see that Nintendo players enjoy them
Come on, bring Fallout 76 to the Switch!
Edit: I have the Power Armor Collector's Edition pre-ordered for PC but I'd totally double dip on this game later down the line if it came out for Switch at some point. Hell I'd double dip for any Bethesda game though, lol
@Razer Sorry but the way they handled this makes me think they don't care about the Switch. You can't tell me this port needs 5 month longer than the other versions. You also can't tell me them playing silent for literally months shows their care for the fans. I support getting more games and well-made ports, but I don't want to feel like other consoles matter more than the Switch, and the way they handled it makes me think that. They should have at least released both the DS Remastered and the DS Trilogy on Switch. But getting less and getting it a lot later just leaves me with a bad impression. I want to be treated as an equal to other consoles. Tbh the comment I posted was right after I read the news so I should have waited until I cooled down and boycotting might be extreme but I still stand by the point that Bamco handled the situation really bad and they should know about that. Peace.
@electrolite77 @kobashi100 comment above also replies to you too.
@Angelic_Lapras_King I caught the joke, but it would be interesting to see Bethesda make a Mario RPG.
@geheimxy
“You can't tell me this port needs 5 month longer than the other versions” Why not? Different hardware. It may have been started later.
“They should have at least released both the DS Remastered and the DS Trilogy on Switch”
It would take ages to port the trilogy to the Switch. They already exist on PS4 and XB1.
“I want to be treated as an equal to other consoles”
But it isn’t equal. Different tech, lower level of power, smaller install base.
@geheimxy I just don't see any reason to be salty about Dark Souls on Switch. They were under no obligation to bring the game to the system at all. I don't care about an overpriced bundle on another system. That doesn't detract from the fact that DS is a great game and I'll be able to play it on my lunch break at work. I'm happy it's coming, and I'm not bothered having to wait for them to get the port right. Guess I just don't have enough pride to pass on a great game over such a minor (perceived) slight.
@Angelic_Lapras_King being frozen in anticipation of a post nuclear wasteland adventure is the canon reason why Waluigi isn’t in Smash.
@PALversusNTSC
“give us fallout 4 please, it can be done.
i remember metal gear phantom pain on xbox360 wich almost look like a next gen game, so why is fallout 4 impossible?”
Those two things are unconnected
@Geeks4Life if switch is having a strong 3rd year and switch+/new switch/switch pro announced, they will buy Panic Button, that is how capitalism works.
hopefully they will keep converting titles
Great! So now bring Fallout to the Switch (and no, I'm not talking about Fallout Shelter...that game got old fast).
I bought all 3 games just to encourage them to port Fallout 4 or even 3...Vegas... Where's our Fallout game!?
@Silly_G the 8GB Doom download was a downer... that's exactly what I despise about xbox/ps gaming experience and it made me regret buying the game. my plan was to play it a bit and then sell the cartridge but, an year later, I barely even touched it
@nhSnork
Yeah, that's true. However, not every game that deserves to sell does. Just like there's tons of games that sell gangbusters that's some me feel unworthy. And it's certainly not a Nintendo console specific thing either. As there's been games that have flat-out bombed or so pretty lackluster on much higher userbases in history. Unfortunately that's just how it is sometimes.
@Dayton311 They also keep making single player experiences when so many companies were raving about single player being dead and jumping from co-op to MMO-lite to "games as a service"...
Bethesda does what it does best, even if their in-house games tend to be buggy.
