November was already the announced date of release. No news here. Maybe the trailer should have been the title's focus.

Anyway, we want to know the complete line-up! There is a collector's edition on sale and we still don't know what would be paying for!

I'm anticipating this but it is frustrating that we still don't have a complete list of every title included. I wish SNK and NIS would just come out with the entire list already. NIS America's online store only has 11%-25% pre-orders left despite saying "with more titles to be announced!". I want to know everything included before dropping the money. I'm still excited for this but very disappointed at how it's being revealed.

I’ve ordered as normal edition is under £30 and with 13 games already announced and more to come it’s less that £3 a game.... awesome value

November 13th is one day after my 41st birthday. So I'm 1 year older than SNK!

They'd rather sell out the initial print run to people that are already hooked, and give the title some legs by gauging interest closer to release, generated from the last announcements, so they know how many more copies to put in production. Is my guess, at least.

And yeah. That's not exactly exciting for those waiting to hear about the good bits yet to be announced.

Cannot wait for this but am unsure why they still won't announce the rest of the game line-up. I am a little worried they are deliberately holding it back because it's games no one cares about/likes. Got the special edition pre-ordered though.

I'm probably more interested in the Neo Geo Mini, but old arcade games do pique my interest...

Honestly, I can't help feeling underwhelmed at this collection. Not nearly varied and/or extensive enough. Crystalis is the only game of any value imo.

@Damo I didn't mean to offend you, it just was strange to me because on Amazon the date was fixed some time ago. My apologies.

Other retro license holders please take note. I would like some of MY nostalgia on Switch too. I wonder how much of the eshop is made up of Neo Geo and SNK ports.

They're probably holding a few titles back to have something to stir interest as they come closer to release. November is a while away.

@Moroboshi876 @Damo I pre-ordered this from the publisher's European site as soon as it was announced. The release date for this collection has varied based on what retail website you visit ever since. It has been listed as November, December, August and most recently September. Perhaps they were all just guessing?

Glad to finally get a set date, albeit if I personally would have preferred August/September.

Likely just make it an early Xmas gift for myself now.

@Lroy I was considering it, but it's actually too expensive for my budget, more than 80 euros with shipping.

But it certainly doesn't help that for now only 13 of the included titles have been announced. I can't commit to pay that kind of money without knowing if they will be 15, 20 or 40 games.

@Moroboshi876 I really wanted the Limited Editon but just couldn't afford it. Had to settle for the standard edition. Cost £42 and change when I pre-ordered. Amazon may have it for less?

@Lroy Amazon at least in countries that have the € is under 40 actually. But I'm planning to get it on my usual shop, Fnac, because I have coupons to use in games priced 30 or more, so I will pay less than 30 for it.

Nice Limited Edition, though. A little overpriced.

I don’t think I ’get’ nostalgia. I just don’t get the appeal for paying a bunch of cash for stuff I enjoyed in my youth, but that feels way outdated now. I’d rather see, for example, an updated Ikari Warriors, where they make the game they only could’ve dreamed about making had the tech been around, and maybe throw in the original as a bonus

I swear the Switch is becoming my retro console of choice. I'm just filling it up with tons of classic games to play on the go.

@Bondi_Surfer I understand retro is not for everyone, but a lot of these remakes just don't work, or are decidedly lesser experiences. There's quite a few examples of that, such as the Flashback reboot, and a couple of the old gen platformers, that have gotten an overhaul, mostly making them look like Adobe Flash games, and that destroys any kind of nostalgia or connection that people might have had with the IP when they played the original.

As for not getting nostalgia, and wanting companies to put out more superior versions of the original product, just think of it in this way:

Nostalgia can be a very strong thing, potentially being able to make you relive your childhood or bring back certain memories of certain times in your life. Anything amiss with the sensation, will completely ruin that.

Say, for example, that you return to your home town after a decade or two, three, and you visit what was your favorite restaurant back then. They had this amazingly tasteful steak, and their banana split desert was to die for. And of course, the interior design of the establishment is also a factor.

Now, just imagine that although the interior is still the same, they decided to change the recipe of the steak, for whatever reason (such as modernizing their menu, or simply wanting to attract a broader audience) and it looks and tastes nothing even remotely like what you were used to and loved so much.

And to top it all off, the banana split has turned into a low calorie banana mousse, because you know, that's more healthy...

Well, for me, that would completely ruin going back there after all these years, hoping to get a piece of that steak and a king size desert. Like someone poked a needle in my soap bubble of wishful thoughts...

A real life example I can give you, is my own: I live in the city, and although not that far off from the sea, going there is still something that I don't do very often, due to work and other obligations, so except for the holidays (provided I don't go abroad) and the odd day in the year, I go there to stroll around the beach boulevard, walk the pier, and have a nice dinner.

The last time I went there, a lot of establishments that I used to visit, were either gone/out of business, or transformed into something completely unrecognizable to me, and the pier was also partially shut down, which meant I wasn't able to take the route I was used to, and it made the trip as a whole shorter.

All in all, instead of bringing me some nice nostalgic moments, it actually made me sad, how things had changed, and pieces of my youth and earlier life were simply gone forever.

Now, of course, change is a part of life, so it isn't bad by default, but in regards to nostalgia, it most certainly is quite detrimental. And people are creatures of habit, and pattern seekers, so we inherently like to stick to certain routines, so our mind can tick boxes. We can handle change, as long as it goes relatively slowly, but of course, if you only visit some places once or twice a year, the changes made there, can be quite jarring.

Now imagine what happens to the human brain when visiting that favorite restaurant that I mentioned earlier, after a couple of decades...

Well, I hope that makes some sense to you. Enough of that, back to games:

This is most definitely on my radar, because these were the games I played back then, and I most certainly like to replay them in their brilliant, original form...

I preordered this off amazon straight away simply for the Ikari and TNKIII games. The other titles look pretty fun also and I look forward to trying them out.
I have nostalgia for NES titles, but I missed out on many in my youth and only now get to play them. Same with Atari. I love Atari games, but my first experience with them were arcade compilations on SNES, Dreamcast, and Xbox. I enjoyed those so much I eventually bought the Atari Flashback 8 Gold to experience close to original home ports because I was curious how fun games could be from the beginnings of gamer culture. I learned about 2/3 of the games they crammed on there weren't great fun alone, to my modern day brain, without too much instruction, but 1/3 of them are still great today. I played TNKIII at a friend's house once, played Ikari Warriors at a hotel's arcade nook once, and played all three of them on an NES emulator later. Hoping to discover some more classic gems for myself on this collection.

I am interested in this game fo Crystalis alone. Not sure if it's the same NES experience that I so enjoyed, though. I wasn't even aware that Crystalis even had an arcade version. I also really enjoyed Ikari Warriors.

I will definitely get it. Ikari warriors and guerilla war were some good games. now I wish Nintendo can bring arcade popeye.

This is something I'd want digitally! Can't wait for the kickstarter vertical grip to arrive in October

Not much of a return to the golden age of arcade gaming, when a grand total of one game is from that period. Everything else is from the latter half of the 1980's or are boring NES releases like Crystalis.

I really want this physically with the book.

Per my recollection, there was no Crystalis arcade. I believe that was the NES version they were showing off.

So excited for this, more so because most of them will have the NES versions attached! Picked up the Collector's Edition.

@ThanosReXXX That pier wouldn't happen to be Scheveningen pier by any chance? I used to go there a lot when I lived in Den Haag back in 2002. A year or so later I worked as a holiday rep in France but I was moved to a campsite in The Netherlands for a few weeks to help set it up. The campsite was in Scheveningen, so got to spend even more time there.Couldn't believe it.

@ThanosReXXX It was just a crazy coincidence for me. After living close to there in my first ever overseas job and spending a lot of time on the beach , my next completley different job in France ended up leading me back to there by sheer chance. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time and was asked by my boss if me and an engineer could go help out at another campsite in The Netherlands. I didn't realise it was actually Scheveningen I'd be going to though until I arrived. Feels really great to return to a place that holds special memories, especially when it's a surprise

The first time I ever went there was with my mate from Scotland and a group of Portuguese guys we worked with. There was a group of African guys playing football on the beach and they asked us if we wanted to play them. These guys were massive and super skilled with the ball. We took them on and despite hardly seeing any of the ball we beat them something like 10v6,with me and my mate scoring every goal. For all their fancy tricks our Portuguese team mates would nick the ball off then, punt it up to me and my mate up front and we'd score. Goal after goal was scored like this, it was hilarious but they didn't like it and started to get aggressive,with one of our team mates getting taken out of the game. It eventually calmed down and we all had a laugh. Was a really great day.

@ThanosReXXX Duinrell was the name of the campsite. It's actually in Wassenaar rather than Schevingen but not far. Talking about it has got me looking up images of the place. Really loved it there.

@OorWullie Ah, yes. Duinrell... Been there as well, and my head still remembers making firm contact with one of the extreme slides there... (the one with the vertical drop down that looked like a giant funnel)

Sounds like you had a blast, there. A trip down memory lane is always nice, and revisiting can also be a great experience, as long as they haven't done too much to the place...

@ThanosReXXX I know exactly the water slide you're on about. I went on that assuming the end would be a chute like the other slides I'd just been on, I had no idea I'd be dropped into a pool.I got the fright of my life when I came out into that funnel. I'm not a good swimmer and have a bit of a fear of water due to an awful incident as a kid. I made a pathetic attempt to prevent myself being sucked down that hole before plunging what felt like a considerable height and then disappearing under the water for long enough that the lifeguard was about to jump in and save me. Fortunately I got myself together and saved myself from that embarrassment. Several of my work mates were in hysterics at the side of the pool. I'm sure it was called the Casino Wheel or Carousel, something like that.

@OorWullie I think it was called the carousel, but we could of course always check their website...

Come to think of it, that actually wasn't the one I hit my head in. That was a slide which started with a steep diagonal, ending in a vertical bit, dropping straight into the pool. I shot out of the diagonal part too fast, and while dropping down, my head swung forward, hitting the side of the tube, before I splashed down into the water.

Never went back there again: I'll just stick to normal pools, or the ocean...

Any retro collection like this is worth a day one purchase for me! I look forward to this and the Atari Flashback to add to my growing Switch arcade classic library!!
