It's been another strong week for Nintendo Switch software titles in Japan, with half the top ten comprised of games on Ninty's hybrid hardware. However, Mega Man didn't perform quite as well as Capcom was probably hoping, with the combined Mega Man Legacy Collection debuting at number nine. In other words it failed to sell as many copies as any of the other Switch entries in the top 10, and sold a fraction of what Dark Souls: Remastered racked up on PS4.
1 [PS4] Dark Souls Remastered (From Software, 05/24/18) – 71,739 (New)

20 [PS4] The Caligula Effect: Overdose (FuRyu, 05/17/18) – 3,008 (23,408)
In terms of hardware sales, Switch continues to outsell PS4 by a considerable margin, with sales around 3,000 units up on last week's performance. Its encouraging news from a hardware perspective, especially with Mario Tennis Aces so close to launch.
1 Switch – 36,590 (33,125)

I'm glad it sold poorly. Hopefully backlash for their half physical/half download nonsense.
Good thing Capcom convinced Nintendo to give the Switch 4gb of RAM. I don't think Mega Man 2 would be able to run on the system without that extra boost of power.
@marnelljm Amen.
"another strong week ... half the top ten"
Hah! Except it's the bottom half and the other half are Sony titles, which have outsold Nintendo software by about 2:1!
Not surprised at Mega Man. Retro collections don’t do too well in Japan. They are never top sellers
I'm sure Capcom are well aware everyone purchased it elsewhere years ago and have adjusted their projections accordingly.
No wonder it sold poorly ,have you seen the price of it in Japan? I don't know how much it costs at retail but digitally it's 2990 yen (£20.50/$27.30) for each part.
Mega Man comes as No. 9? Still better than nothing.
Well it's a bunch of old games, of course it won't sell tons of copies.
...and why is 25% of this list just Persona dancing games in different boxes?
@chardir, hey why don't you go on the ps4 site? This site is Nintendo. The titles are still doing good and most of the bottom half except for mega man was already on the list for weeks now.
I'd like the collection, but it's soooooo big. Really doesn't make sense. It'd be cool if their whole "download games" strategy applied to just the games. The first collection only has like 2MB of games and then hundreds of megs of extra junk. If you could just install the games and have them on your system and then be required to insert the cart for all the art and extra nonsense, that would be awesome. The same goes for the 4GB the second collection takes up.
@chardir One thing I've noticed is that only Nintendo fans are obsessed with twisting the numbers to look good out of reality.
Back when Smash released on the WiiU and sales of the console went up by 400% over the previous week. But you look at the previous week and it was 1250 units.....up to 5000..... "whoa". But all we had was "400% THOUGH!!!!!"
Same with their weird obsession with Japanese sales. Monster Hunter world "didn't sell well in Japan" and they ignore that it sold so much elsewhere that it became Capcom's best selling game of all time in 2 months. "But it didn't sell well in Japan!".
And God Of War. 3 million units in 3 days and 5 million in a month. "OUTSOLD BY LABO IN JAPAN ON WEEK ONE!!!"
Pretty sure companies care about money more than anything, but "muh numbers!!"
@NintendoFan4Lyf Noo, I wanted to say that!
@Kimyonaakuma Because Persona is amazing
@marnelljm I won't say I'm "Glad" it did poorly, but goodness gracious that was a stupid choice on their part. It's like they were intentionally trying to make a physical release that no one wanted. The digital only crowd won't want it, and those of us that enjoy physical carts aren't happy with the half digital - so I skipped it entirely. Megaman is one of my favorite series ever, but there's no way I'm paying for it again (I own MMLC1 on Steam) to only own half of it physically.
@Menchi187 Yes but it should have three spots at maximum, one for Dancing Star Night, another for Dancing Moon Night and an extra for PS4 triple pack because it includes P4DAN.
-but as someone that has bought all of these I can agree that they are great, it's good to see Atlus do so well
@Kimyonaakuma I really want them to come to the west. I want that sweet triple pack collector's edition on PS4.
@Menchi187 I'm hoping that they will too! It might take a while though with all of the voice acting between the two games though
We'll probably get it at the end of this year/beginning of 2019.
Hooray for Nintendo Switch sales !
But.... i really hate to see the Top 4.
@SmaggTheSmug Oh you!
@ekwcll I'm a Nintendo fan, I have no reason to go to a PS4 site. That doesn't mean I have to pretend Nintendo are doing better than they are.
I bought the combined collection last week, but....what was Capcom expecting? A game that has been available on every other platform for forever, and can be had for a cheaper price elsewhere, to sell 40,000 copies in it's first week? If Capcom wants their games to sell well on Switch, they're going to have to up their game a bit! As far as major players are concerned, they are the among the top three laziest developers currently supporting Switch (EA and Konami are the other two).
@Menchi187 One thing I've noticed is that trolls come out of the woodwork only when there are "negative" news articles on the website, particularly when it comes to sales. Congratulations to GOW for selling a bit less than Tomodachi Life and to MHW for selling a bit less than Mario 64 DS. Pretty sure companies care about money more than anything but "muh trolling is third rate and I've come to the point where I moan about the sales of one week in Japan"
Breath of the Wild will hit a million next week
I picked it up having fun replaying through the games in order, up to MM5 right now.
Sales analysis on this site is notoriously poor. Sales charts shouldn’t be treated as if they’re a football league table - one title can be top in sales but a complete commercial disaster while another can be way down the list but still indicate an incredible success.
Different games have different objectives, different audiences and different criteria for success. They can all be winners or losers.
It’s not a fight to the death.
@gortsi Someone is still mad, calm down bro, you're full on mad.
Did this collection already come out on other consoles? This modest considering the biggest selling point is portability. I'm surprised people double dipped again on this again.
@Menchi187 @chardir
Not disagreeing with either of your points but it would be pretty mental if Ninty games released months ago were outselling the biggest new releases on rival platforms.
The evergreen sales are pretty impressive to keep them in the top 10 tbf
@Menchi187 I ain't mad "bro", just stating facts. I ain't the one who goes and writes essays on a sales article either
@StuTwo the problem is there is no analysis at all, just a weekly upload of the sales figures and that's it. Same with the UK charts
What do they expect from 2 games that have been out for other systems a long time ago?
@Anti-Matter Three of the top four are excellent games. Not sure what there is to be upset about.
@Indielink
Excellent for them , But Garbage for me.
Well I guess there are only so many times you can sell megaman...
Mighty Mega Man No.9 apparently. I just picked up the collection yesterday and it’s great. I’m just surprised it even charted here, seeing as how all the new AAA titles normally rain supreme.
It will be interesting to see how Dark Souls Remastered does when it finally hits Switch. Such a shame we missed out on a simultaneous multi-platform release. Being several months behind isn't exactly going to help the Switch build its case for more third-party support. What do we think: a 40% drop on PS4's circa 70,000?
@gortsi At 94 WPM, it's a miniscule fraction of my day.
@Indielink He's a nintendo fanboy that wants every other company and game that isn't on Switch (re: a lot of them) to fail.
@gortsi there is analysis but it’s so superficial and obvious (i.e “Switch outsold PS4 by a good amount this week”) I wouldn’t blame anyone for not noticing it’s there at all.
Is Mega Man collection a success on those numbers or not? How many copies did the previous releases sell & what was the size of the install bases for those consoles at the time?
Would 35,000 units a week have been considered a good showing for the 3DS or DS in its second year in a week with no big new releases? That’s the type of base line information that should support these info dumps.
I fail to see how an NES collection of 6 games debuting at number 9 is a bad thing. These games aren't new, so this looks like a great achievement from my perspective
@Menchi187
I don't mind 3rd party games on Number 1 sales as long they are games for Kids or still Appropriate to watch.
@Anti-Matter They're mostly rhythm games this chart...
@Menchi187
But not that Rhythm game.
The game of Satan worshipper...
I dig the collections, but had they combined both releases on one cart and given it an interface like the Street Fighter 30th, it would've been a much stronger release. No one likes part cart/part digital.
I want Mega Man to sell on Switch so that we get more, but honestly when half the games are on the cart you might as well download it.
It would had sold much better if they include more craps on it for unlockables such as these: Mega Man and Bass (SNES version), the 5 Game Boy MM games, the Game Gear MM game, the 2 arcade MM games, the MM racing game, Mega Man Soccer, etc. Also not putting them all on one physical cart turns people away. You did it to yourself Capcom, I hope it falls from the chart after this so you stop sucking. I bought the Street Fighter 30th anniversary collection, I will not bother with any of the Mega Man ones. Until Capcom make physical cart that include Mega Man 7-10 and Mega Man X5-X8, I will never buy these physical (cause I hate the download code) or digital, I rather look forward to Sonic Mania Plus over these and don't say that I'm lying either, I bought Wonder Boy: Dragon's Curse, the recently physical released of Shantae: Half Genie Hero, Axiom Verge: Multiverse Edition, and all the physical Nicalis re-release.
@Anti-Matter LOL 😂 I didn't know there was a religious dude in the comment section I guess bayonetta it's the devil's creation and that's on a Nintendo console you know
@Anti-Matter wait, so people who enjoy Dark Souls are Satan worshippers?!?! WOOOW that's a bit of a stretch
Remember:
Wed 23rd May 2018
@Anti-Matter "Well...
Different people, different interest."
Follow your own advice and let them be 😊
@GKO900
And i also hate that adult SEGA game.
@StuTwo I have also noticed that Switch games usually have a great first week and the next one they are much lower in the charts. It's like there are a lot of Switch owners that are also early games adopters or perhaps it's just that there aren't enough games. Total sales is what matters at the end of the day.
@marnelljm The X collection will be available fully physical in Japan though (if willing to buy both as separate packages), so we'll soon find out if that really is what is having an impact on sales of this one.
They should've released the whole mega man collection in one single cart splitting the collection only shows how greedy they are
@Anti-Matter I see the pattern so you only like Nintendo games nothing else
@GKO900 Does it cost more to buy them separately?
I mean it didn't sell well but I'm pretty sure Capcom is probably okay with a $250,000 in one week and they really didn't have to do much to the games.
@redd214 Well I know that it gives no option for second hand opportunity to save some money since the second part of the game is a download forcing full price on you well here anyway now that I think about it does the Japanese copy has the full game on the card
And this is the "best" list for Nintendo. Basically skip over the UK/US numbers from last week.
They really need some big games. Random budget $15 indie games that most people do not care about and rehash can only go so far.
Jesus Christ, Atlus is milking the crap out of Persona Dancing. Glad all those Persona 3/5 dancing SKUs on PS4/PSV sold less than Persona 4 Dancing on PSV.
@BlueOcean I think that’s normal for a lot of games on all formats (but not all games - a select few are slower burns). I think it suggests that the audience buying most games is actually far smaller than most people believe - but that audience is very keen and well informed.
Nintendo’s evergreen first party games are exceptions (in large part because they’re appealing well beyond the enthusiast bubble). Mario Kart 8 for instance will sell one copy for around every 3 Switches sold. So any game that causes a peak in Switch sales will normally push it back up the charts.
We call him Stan... Lol...
Inb4 Capcom gets butthurt and pulls all support for Switch
I mean what do you expect with a half baked effort "physical release." One physical game, and the other a piece of paper to download. If you want them, you might as well just download them both since the second one is the bigger one to download anyway. It was a stupid offer for a physical box.
@GKO900
I would like to see either Nintendo games or 3rd party games on Top 3, as long the games are Appropriate for kids and general audiences.
Btw, i play some 3rd party games too on all my Nintendo machines. They are mostly Casual (Rhythm, Simulation, Party, Adventure) and Quite serious (JRPG, Action RPG, Fighting)
@Menchi187 94? Wow bro, mighty impressive. No wonder you can troll all day long.
Eh. Kind of hard to support a company that has taken a very lazy approach to the Switch. The collection itself didn't really offer anything new and required you to download the second part of it.
@gortsi School holidays. The irony of coming onto a Nintendo fan site and calling people fanboys is completely lost on him as well.
It's like me going into an Irish pub and calling them Irish.
@WiltonRoots but can you write 94 WPM?
@gortsi 95. And the games I play are better than your games. And my house is bigger than yours. And your sister smells of poo.
@gortsi the bigger question is whether or you can think 94 WPM or if it’s just words that your brain hasn’t had time to properly digest yet being spewed out like diarrhoea onto the comments board.
wow 3150 people shelled out the $500 for the Dark Souls Trilogy Box
@StuTwo pretty obvious what the case is with good ol' Menchi and a few others here
@WiltonRoots HAHAHA. But seriously, my console is so much better than yours and if you don't like it talk to the hand.
Nothing wrong with number 9. Some might say its..... "Mighty".
Mega Man is No. 9?
That's a mighty fine number.
@blockfight NOOO!! I was in the middle of typing mine and your comment popped up! 😂
@JHDK
I'm thrilled the Switch has more RAM. Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda definitely used it and it made ports like Doom and Skyrim possible. Capcom seems to be coming around with support, but either way a more capable system is a win for everybody.
This could go two ways...
1. Capcom realizes that making people angry with this digital only BS is going to hurt them in the long run.
2. Capcom thinking that "Hmmm, they're not buying our games. Guess we shouldn't support the platform any longer."
@Anti-Matter
That's totally absurd! If you don't like them, don't play them! There are plenty of E-rated games to pick from. Gamers, such as myself, like having choice, and I choose to play both Mario Odyssey AND Dark Souls (the fact that you refer to it as a "Satan worshipping" game tells me that you know zilch about it). So, why even bother commenting on it? Not every game needs to be fluffy and colorful.
I got megaman 1-10 playable anywhere with my switch. Got 11 and X legacy collections on preorder. Already own Ultra Street Fighter II. All I need out of Capcom now is a Resident Evil Collection and I'm set. For everyone else concerned MH Ultimate is still coming to Switch.
To be fair, everything bombed.
Oh the trolls. What would they do without Nintendo to hate on a daily basis?
For the first time ever, weekly retail sales of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has dipped below 10,000 copies.
Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 on the 3DS sold around 22,000 copies at launch back in 2016, so the debut sales of the Switch version (and its sequel) are pretty decent given the game's age.
@NicolausCamp
I think we know how Capcom will respond.
@Anti-Matter The Persona games are rhythm/dancing games. You literally never stop talking about how much you want more of those.
@Agent721 Nintendo. Hated since 1889.
@Indielink Yeah but how you are going to convince the Sony fans to buy them after telling them for years Nintendo games are old gen garbage and graphics are super important? That would be a little bit hypocrite. It's sad Sony is doing everything they can to destroy the japanese industry. Sony is completely dominating the industry and the japanese market is crumbling. That's the result of their leader tactic.
@gortsi Ah well, going to give the Mario Tennis demo a bash this weekend, it doesn't look very gritty or realistic, and it doesn't use the Frostbite Engine so it's bound to be garbage. Haven't played a tennis game since the first Virtua Tennis on the Dreamcast which is an all time classic.
@WiltonRoots
Yeah, I would of considered Tennis Aces if you could play as Joel, Kratos or Marcus Phenix. Hard pass.
@StuTwo Sure, Super Mario Odyssey is also a big success and will be successful for as long as Switch is being sold, so it's the same as always, Mario Kart and last Mario platformer are the best sellers on Nintendo platforms.
@KryptoKrunch I nearly spat my beer across the room! Yeah it all looks a bit too happy for me, it needs edge.
@BanjoPickles mate, there is no point bothering trying to reason with him like a normal person. I’ve gotten into the same stuff with him and it goes nowhere. He will continue to print annoying posts about how 18 or mature games are evil and how people are wrong for playing them while ironically attacking people who say anything about his choice of games saying they should ‘let people enjoy what they want’. Honestly every week it’s the same stuff with him
@BanjoPickles I ignored him. Had enough of his zealotry awhile ago.
@bitleman Given the recent surge in popularity that the Persona series has received I don' think getting those games to sell decently will be difficult.
Nintendo has been the market leader in Japan for a hot minute.
@WiltonRoots no frostbite no buy Nintendo, get your stuff together. I enjoyed the 3DS Mario Tennis quite a bit, but Ultra Smash was trash. Thankfully this one seems like there's been actual effort behind it
We all know that if DS remastered was released on Switch as planed, it would have outsell the PS4 version....
Sony probably pressured hard From Software to "delay" the Switch launch or else... We can see the pressure worked very well and Sony won.
TBF, the Collections have been out on other systems for awhile. Should be interesting to see what the X Collection manages to pull off.
Mega Man has always been popular in the west, not Japan.
Granted I still would've expected it to do better than this in Japan, but at the end of the day that collection has been in the Amazon top 100 for months, and is #5 and #6 on the eShop even now.
I don't think anyone has to worry about the game doing poorly overall. I'm pretty sure it'll surpass 250k, easy (maybe even more) not including digital. And that's after releasing on all other platforms (even 3DS) and being 20 year old games sold for the 17th time.
And nice to see Switch still outselling all other consoles combined. I've also noticed it picking up pace in the charts in the west ever since the Pokémon games were announced, both of which are #1 and #2 on Amazon and have been since the page went live. Switch console has since inched up all the way to #6, and still moving up. That is a system seller in every sense of the word.
edit
Btw Mega Man 11 Switch version is absolutely lighting it up. 5th highest selling game on Amazon, and held down the #1 spot for a while until Pokémon was announced. Also, Mega Man X Collection Switch is charting higher than all other versions too. Seems like Switch is going to see the highest sales for all Mega Man games. Which should further reiterate strong software sales to Capcom. I don't think there's been a game released by them yet where they weren't pleased or downright astonished with the overall sales numbers
@gortsi Yep gonna get stuck in tomorrow, looks great, shall we rechristen lil Menchi boy Sligeach Lite - 94wpm Edition?
@WiltonRoots what you said but add "Gator" after 94wpm to make it complete. Unfortunately I'll be job hunting all weekend so no time for gaming. Enjoy and let me know your impressions!
Gonna buy the game when it's on sale or used.
@roadrunner343
Well said!
@NicolausCamp
We can only hope they realize the former, and not fall back to the latter. -_-
Though tbh, I don't see 9 out of 20 as doing that horribly. It is quite literally middling.
I was really put off when I saw that half was on the cartridge and half was a download code. I could understand it somewhat (even if its not user friendly) with the Resident Evil: Revelations collection since that would clearly need two physical cartridges. But this could have easily fit on one cartridge with plenty of room to spare.
@westman98 Milking? Looks to me like they’re giving us choices.
3 pack if you want it all, 2 pack if you just want the new ones, or you can just buy the 2 new games on their own.
I can’t wait for P3D and P5D. I guess they’ll probably be my final Vita games, unless there’s some more Atlus surprises coming up.
@flapjack-ashley Yeah, it makes no sense! My Switch is all digital, but if I were to buy the 2-pack physical, I would expect it all on one card.
They total at under 5GB. That fits on a card. It’s dumb that they’re separated.
