It's safe to say Metal Gear fans weren't best pleased when David Hayter, the long-serving voice of gruff spy clone Solid Snake was dropped in favour of Kiefer 'I'm always going to be Jack Bauer' Sutherland for 2015's Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Well, grumble no more because Mr Hayter has returned to lend his signature windpipes to Solid Snake for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch. With Snake returning alongside every other fighter that's ever smashed or brawled in the franchise thus far, senior product marketing manager for Nintendo America Bill Trinen and localisation manager Nate Bihldorff confirmed his involvement to Game Informer, but neither would elaborate on whether Hayter had recorded or re-recorded any new dialogue.

However, considering Snake was able to have discreet Codec chats with Otacon about every fighter on the Super Smash Bros. Brawl roster, it does stand to reason he'd be able to do the same for the substantially larger cast this time around. Hayter himself even confirmed his involvement on Twitter. Take from that what you will.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arrives on Nintendo Switch on 7th December. Share your thoughts on Hayter's triumphant return and be sure to stay with Nintendo Life for all the latest E3 2018 updates...
