Crunching Koalas has announced that Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs - Royal Edition will launch on Nintendo Switch on 12th April.
Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a modern-style JRPG with skippable battles, aiming to deliver a mix of good old adventuring and dynamic storytelling. There is also a focus on challenging turn-based combat, with the aim of restoring your realm and forging new alliances. It draws inspiration from JRPG classics, but hopes to let you experience the genre in an up-to-date, accessible style.
The Switch version is an enhanced edition of the original PC game, and will include the game's DLC: The Unending Grimoire, which provides you with an endless mode and brand-new characters.
Featuring around 40-50 hours of gameplay (which can be reduced with the "skip battle" feature, if you wish), the game is set to be priced at $25, and will be released in retail "sometime after" it arrives digitally.
Is this something you'll be looking forward to next month? Let us know your thoughts below.

Interesting, interesting. This game has been on my radar for a while, nice to know it's coming to Switch as well. I might hold out for a physical, but it all depends on the cost and/or extras.
Looks great.
I'll be picking that up for sure. The more jrpg's on switch the better imo.
Dude just said "I'm a vampire!" like Nicolas Cage. I'm in haha.
If your selling point is the ability to not play the game, why would I pay money for the game?
Sarcasm aside, I never really understood people who don't like the battles in JRPGs. That'd be like not liking jumping in a platformer, or not liking guns in a shooter. Like, what????
Now a great design choice is making a JRPG that makes grinding unneeded or, like Xenoblade, masks 95% of that grinding behind side quests so you at least feel like you are doing something, rather than killing level 40 graveler for 5 hours before the elite 4... cough*oldschoolpokemon*cough
Ok I'll be the guy that asks. Why on earth would I want to skip the battles?
Skippable battles? Huh? So you can play it like a visual novel?
@Heavyarms55 I mostly hated the battles in old JRPG's when they felt like interruptions. In the early DQ games, battles felt like kids in the car having to pee on a roadtrip, at times.
@Muddy_4_Ever I never had the chance to play the old school DQ games, but many older and more recent RPGs tend to have a "run" option from random enemies. That's not a particularly uncommon thing. If that's what they are talking about here, it's odd that they would act like it is. I am mostly nitpicking with my comment.
Regardless watching the video certainly spiked my interest, I very well might pick this game up.
@Heavyarms55 Usual jRPG combat systems is what stops me from getting into jRPGs. They always seem obtuse and shallow at the same time. This looks more like a tactics game, which I like a lot. But in general I prefer western style of just adapting D&D or something similar like SPECIAL in Fallout that was clear and easy to understand, and often had a bit of a tactical bent to it (things like positioning alone already makes a combat system better than standard party on one side, monster on the other jRPG style).
As for skipping battles, I guess that's just this game's "easy mode". Unless you can skip battles that you'd win quickly anyway, like in Earthbound. That would be most welcome.
I'm a bit confused. The title of the article calls it a "tactical JRPG." It looks an awful lot like an SRPG. How are the two different?
This looks A LOT like a game I worked on a handful of years ago. Only this is much much prettier. ^_^;;
This looks good. Interested in the retail version tho 🙂so hurry it up lol. Btw Apr, is my birthday, and im way over the age that society says is ok to be a gamer 👏
@citizen_zane They're not.
@FantasiaWHT @guamyankee My guess is it works like most games that are grid based. You can make the battles instant. These types of games will give you the percentages of both attacks and takes health off using those percentages.
For instance I just beat Tiny Metal. I no longer need to see the battle animation so I changed that to instant. Basically all you viewing is battle animation anyways. Once you've seen it there's no reason to watch it over and over again. There's still game play and strategy and plenty to be had. These games are all about positioning and where to attack from.
I need so much more time to play these games.
Day one purchase for me, bring on that Jrpg goodness
Very happy this game’s origins are not a smartphone game. I go in with a skepticism every time when that’s the case. That being said, anything to fill my Stella Glow void makes me happy!
@SmaggTheSmug Personally when I can get physical versions it's what I generally end up going for.
If anything, ontop of smaller stuff like having a physical box/potential for resale if I feel I may indeed prefer something else/lending it to friend who also have a Switch.... the price of physical copies feels like an excuse to carefully choose what games I do and don't buy and ultimately make sure I don't find myself in a "Valve's Steam 150+ games-strong pile of shame" worth of games I bought and never played "because they were cheap".
If anything, the amount of games I did complete on my Switch is something I'm pretty happy so far. Games I didn't complete(and they can be counted on the fingers of a single hand) generally are the very few I ultimately realized I didn't like all that much. And literally none of them were amongst "full price releases".
I don't know if it's due to better knowing over time what I know I will like and better recognizing "stuff that seem nice outwardly but may still fall by the wayside weeks after", but so far there's few things I have regrets for.
@Spoony_Tech Oh that would make a lot of sense. Fire Emblem does that too. I'm a little embarrassed I didn't think of that!
never heard of it, looks cool
I love me some tactical JRPGs. I have never heard of this game before but since it's coming to Switch, it has me intrigued. Probably will wait for a physical release though, that way both my partner and I could play it on our individual consoles & not have to buy two copies.
I'm getting strong Disgaea vibes from this! In a good way!
@Heavyarms55 I completely agree. I tried reading polygon's "review" of Radiant Historia and the author only liked the game because he could skip the battles and just get the story. At that point I essentially stopped reading the review because it seems like they really didn't like the game. If you don't like the game aspect of a freaking video game then you probably don't like the game all that much now do you.
Oh wow... Glad I never got around getting it on Steam. The switch is the best place to play these type of games.
BattleChasers, Ys8, Earthlock and now this. My list is starting to get better - can start complaining less now 😆
Waiting on a physical release it is then 😉
@Blathers
That's good to hear.
I like the character design. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
@citizen_zane
SRPG is more or less the Japanese name for TRPGs
So... TJRPG = JTRPG = SRPG lol
@Blathers
I feel like I've learned something today! Thanks for explaining that.
