I KNEW we were due for a new Direct! The upcoming draught just didn't seem quite right. That said, I'm still keeping my expectations low because Nintendo Directs don't always come with many big wonderful announcements.

I want more 3DS announcements because that system is awesome and it deserves to live forever.

Virtual Console for switch, new VC titles for all 3ds models including tg16 that was exclusive to 3ds in Japan and wiiu here coming west and VC will now be unified meaning of you want to buy star tropics on your 3ds you now can.

New Nintendo Direct XL

Was thinking about it today.
Thinking that not having many new announcements from Nintendo was bad business if they were expecting to sell 20 million units this year.
They have to have games to show and keep people excited about the system.
I really hope this will be a full direct and that we are going to see complete new games.
Two that I'm most certain will be presented are Mario Tennis and Yoshi, both with a release date.

As for 3DS... bring over Yo-Kai Watch 3. At least 1 fan wants the game. And Dragon Quest 11... loved 7 and 8 on 3DS!

Personally, I'm hoping for a Metroid Prime 4 trailer with a March 2018 release date. If this doesn't happen I might as well sell my Switch.

Good news, always try to keep my expectations in check but very much looking forward to seeing what, if anything, Nintendo have up their sleeve. The Switch is celebrating its first year after all.

I'm more than ready for Switch ports for games that no one cares about because no-one wants to play wiiu ports or games that came out 10 years ago, or the 600th pixel-art artsy-farty indie platformer with roguelike-permadeath or BLEGH! mobile ports, overabundance of 3DS games even though the 3ds is obviously dead, more info on games that we don't care about, and games from other consoles that will obviously not be on switch because the switch is obv too weak bruh!

Bring on the disappointment!

I will be fine with a Metroid Prime Trilogy HD announcement and wait for E3 to hear more about Prime 4.

Just an observation, but it would be nice to have a CET time as well when these kinds of things drop.

GTA V is E3 material. Same for BotW 2 or more Metroid news.
But DLCs could be in the air, and I'm betting on some Nindies revealed to fill in the gaps between what was already revealed and E3.

If we get any one of the following, I'll be happy:

-More information/trailer for Wolfenstein II.
-Quality ports of games like GTA V, Red Dead Redemption, Diablo III, Bioshock (a guy can dream), South Park: The Stick of Truth/FBH, etc.
-Information on their online (this will most likely be given it's own Direct in July-August).
-A surprise Virtual Console announcement, separate from their online plans.

Some of them are more realistic than others but, like I said, I'd be happy if a single one of them was announced.

I don't know how they're having a direct considering they've already shown us all they have for the year. Here's hoping for a slew of new indies and amiibo related software.

Okay, I really hope they talk about Wolfenstein 2 this time.

That's why Blizzard denied Diablo 3 is coming, they don't want to ruined the surprise from this Direct. Maybe they shouldn't posted that picture of their red lobster on Twitter

As much as I would love to see Fallout 4 (having beaten the game twice, I would totally do a third round of it on Switch), I seriously don't think that the Switch could handle it. Yes, Skyrim turned out great, but.....Fallout 4 is a much bigger game!

Ridge racer Switch is definitely coming.

I think Fire Emblem would be better to be shown on this Direct instead of at E3. I actually like the fact they're taking their time, after an overload with Fates in 2016, Echoes, Heroes and Warriors in 2017.

Nintendo is doing AMAZING with publicity in the Switch Era! They have the pacing of games/Nindies/announcements down perfectly! Much improved over the disaster that was Wii U!

Overall, I think it'll be an okay direct. I'm expecting mostly more details on already revealed games, and maybe anywhere from 1-4 new games announced. Maybe a new Mario Party, and maybe Luigi's Mansion 3, but I doubt it.

@BanjoPickles You might be right. I haven't played Fallout 4 so I don't know how portable it is compared to Skyrim or Wolfenstein 2. But I would not be surprised by something else from Bethesda. Dishonored? Make it so.

I think we will finally see Fire Emblem and some other smaller ip like pikmin, but I won't be disappoint ed if it's just FE.
I don't think this direct will be the second coming of Nintendo jesus, but I hope it is so every other comment isn't complaining about a lack of games. To be fair, Nintendo has been very quiet about what's in store, so the comments aren't completely unjustified.

I'm sure there's going to be a few surprises, but all the major announcements will be saved for E3, which isn't TOO far away.

I would really love to see some more Kid Icarus. Uprising may still hold my #1 spot of my top 10 3DS games. Even if it's a port of the origial, I'd love to see that game reach a wider audience. But a sequel would be much more preferable.

@Oubie Meanwhile I'm dying to get a new FE game. 3k+ hours in Awakening, 2k+ in Fates, Heroes bored me to death and I'm probably 300 hours in on Warriors. I've replayed Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones, Thracia 776 and some others to death already.

Technically I want them to make a sweet sweet amazing game which they put plenty of time and effort into... I just also want them to hurry up and release a new game for me to get addicted to

Better bring the games Nintendo, need some more info on No More Heroes: Travis Return, Shin Megami Tensei V, and Dragon Quest XI. A thought just occurred to me, which totally contradicts my original point:

Wolfenstein II is a ridiculously gorgeous game and, from what I understand, pretty demanding. If they can find a way to get it to run as well on Switch as Doom did, maybe they could figure out a way to port Fallout 4 in an acceptable state.

We're going to get reminders of games we already know about and maybe a new game from a 3rd party.

I also don't see why they should wait til E3 to make any mind blowing announcements. It's not like they don't have enough to do a couple now and the rest in June. Again, if you want to show a surprise or two tomorrow, it won't take anything away from what you can do E3. I get the sense Nintendo has put themselves in a position where (in their own words) E3 really isn't as critical as it used to be. And with gaming being so hyper competitive and the landscape always changing (not to mention the drought of software that happened with the Wii U), they would put themselves in a fantastic position to drop bombs whenever and wherever they choose. You aren't going to buy Metroid Prime 4 any less whether it's announced in a March Direct or E3.

Now, I say that knowing to keep my expectations in check and to not let my imagination run wild.

Well OK, because I have been playing my Vita way too much. Bring on the games Nintendo.

What i really want to see is some sort of announcement for Netflix/internet browser or even just the ability to customise the homescreen with themes etc.

@HeroponRiki I was just thinking that announcing the VC as part of the online program, and announcing Mother 3 as the first downloadable game of that service, would make a lot of people shell out those 20 (insert currency here) in a heartbeat. Including me.

@XenoShaun Game development takes so long these days, 2 to 3 years easy for some of the bigger titles, that it's almost like E3 is now for games coming out years from now, or maybe the following year, March, May or June, then they spend the rest of E3 going more in depth with the games we already know about that are coming out that holiday. I'm sure Nitneod has mor ethan enough games to talk about we already knwo about that they'll still have some left for E3. I'm a huge E3 fan, if I didn't think they'd have games there I wouldn't' want this ND, I'd want them to save it for E3, but they have plenty. 1 console, not 2, no Gamecube and Gameboy, Wii and DS, Wii U and 3DS, where 1 console suffers for the other. ALL of their games, well at least the big ones, maybe a few dregs on 3DS, are Switch games going forward, so they'll always have plenty for both NDs and E3. We probably wont' see SSB tomorrow, or Super Mario Maker. Maybe Pikmin 4. Maybe Metroid. Enough for tomorrow and E3.

And it wont' be all Kirby or all Labo, it just says ND, so that means more than 1 game, it will be good. Won't stop half the people on here complaining though.

It's over 90 days until E3, that isn't soon, it's over 3 months, so at that pace it's 4 ND a year, once every 3 months, so the timing isn't "too soon" or "too close" it's perfect. Quarterly.

And yeah, it will be mostly filler, and the good stuff saved until E3. But we've seen almost nothing of Mario Aces, and knowing Ntinedo it could release tomorrow after the ND. And Yoshi needs a date, and there is some DLC that needs to be expanded upon. And a whole bunch of games I always forget that you remember, anything FE related. So I don't see any overlap between a winter ND - it isn't spring for another 2 weeks yet, we're still in Winter, hence today's blizzard, and E3 which is very late spring, nearly summer. E3 is for the new good stuff, this is to elaborate more on games we already know. And don't forget the cardboard.

If there's any credit to Eurogamer's sources, Diablo 3 announcement might happen now. Maybe God Eater 3 unless Bamco would prefer to keep it for their event. On the other hand, we might well hear something on the long teased Tales game. The actual lineup will reveal itself soon enough.

I have little doubt that Nintendo is considering yet more Wii U ports, so I'm curious about what we might hear now. Super Mario Maker? Still not sure about it since this kind of creation seems more suited for a stylus - but then again, Switch is getting Terraria which also already happened on Vita's capacitive screen. Super Mario 3D World? Probable and welcome. Xenoblade Chronicles X? Welcome but improbable since Monolith Soft recently said they were just going to pitch the idea to Big N. Tokyo Mirage Sessions? EFFIN' YES PLEASE, but I won't hold my breath for this one. Still, wishful thinking is a free action. And while on the topic of wishful thinking and Nintendo ports... maybe Super Mario Galaxy dilogy, too?

Yes, it's always older ports with me. I welcome as many as Switch can possibly get, and I see no point in speculating on new games much since I'm still behind on many franchises and original IPs are nigh impossible to predict.

The one in January was alright but wasn’t too thrilled about Tropical Freeze and Hyrule Warriors ports. Honestly, the only port I want from Wii U is Smash. So I say that’s gonna get confirmed here.

I'm not expecting HUGE reveals what with E3 being just 3 months away, but certainly enough to ensure we have more then enough till E3.

Thank God. The current lineup for the near future is a little lackluster. Yes, Kirby, Donky Kong, and Mario Tennis could all be great games on their own, but when you look at the first half of this year so far, no real AAA games from Nintendo on the list. Ports are good, especially when we haven't played them before, but we need something great before summer. I hope we get something new soon.

And if we get nothing but ports fine, give me the Metroid Prime Trilogy ALL on cart for $60. That's more of a value than 1 DK game.

@whanvee I don't think they'll really touch on LABO - that's had its own individual promotion, including big events and special videos, etc. Nintendo doesn't usually triple dip like that in these Directs (otherwise we'd have received a Kirby Direct). If anything, it'll get a passing mention and reminder of the release date. Don't worry!

Those guys may have indeed got it right, but NOBODY was paying attention to them before today because they had never made a prediction before.

It's easy in hindsight to say oh, well they got it right so he must have got it from them, but let me remind you NOBODY knew who they were before today. Just some random internet stranger shouting predictions (And we already have thousands of those).

Well beyond Mario Tennis gameplay and release date, I expect to get confirmation on that Diablo III rumor that's been going around. Possibly get into more depth on their online functionality and showcase this with group rifts for Diablo and vs. matches in Mario Tennis. I imagine at least 5 minutes will be given to Labo... The rest I am not so sure about. Some Odyssey DLC info maybe? New playable content/worlds would be great! God of War announcement? /.shrug not long to wait now...

I don't like that:

-it's going to be only half an hour long
-they're announcing "upcoming 3DS games" (yes I'm one of those who wants them to focus totally on switch)
-"More information on Mario Tennis" it's a minor title to me

I really hope there's some more 3DS games (still my handheld of choice), more info about Labo and maybe something about the franchises I've been expecting for Switch (WarioWare, Rhythm Heaven, Animal Crossing)!

I've seen several people making Wii U predictions, and several making Zelda port predictions, but I haven't seen any mention of Skyward Sword, which seems the most in need of a remaster since it's never been released in HD.

Add in some HD rumble and perfect those motion controls, sounds like easy money, and it gives dungeons to all the Zelda fans who wanted them in BotW.

I know it didn't sell well at the end of the Wiis life, I know I was bored to tears, but that just means more people to buy it on Switch. Zelda is hot, keep the ports coming. We all know it will be years before the next new Zelda, need some filler.

Wonder what will be drop at the end of the direct to celebrate the year.

I’m not expecting much to be announced, but I don’t mean to sound pessimistic. It’s just that the upcoming few months are typically relatively dry ones, and we already have games announced for this window (Kirby, Detective Pikachu, LABO, Tropical Freeze, Mario Tennis, etc). We’ll probably learn about one or two notable titles released in the next six months.

In half an hour with the speed they use a direct I'd say we will see just 5 games (other than a load of indie mashups) and if these 5 are expected to be labo. Tennis. I really hope the other three titles are going to blow us away. As so far 2018 has been shockingly dreadful!

I enjoyed Kirby, but then again I played all of Yoshi in Zen mode and I only know Kirby from Smash. No wait, I played and hated Rainbow Curse. I was done when I started the second world with the clouds.

I did spend the first 15 minutes mocking the tutorials and his unlimited flying with the stick, didn't even need to press a button, I'm used to the 4 jumps in Smash.

My son was disappointed b/c he was looking forward to trying out the new abilities, we have the game pre-ordered and he's already planning on 100%. We would get my wife to play, perfect 4 player game for us, but only 2 Joycon and 1 faux Pro. My wife and I could trade off I suppose, haven't thought it out quite that far yet. But new ND tomorrow woo hoo!! Maybe they'll announce a new Kirby amiibo for the game, $20 for Detective Pickachu isn't working for me. Maybe a Kirby amiibo like Mr. Potato Head with hat and weapon accessories. I like the sword but whatever works. Doesn't need to affect in game either, just for display. Seems a missed opportunity. We already have stuffed Yoshi, they don't need more Yoshi. Stuffed Kirby amiibo would have worked too.

I doubt he saw that tweet. They were a random nobody. He would have to be patrolling the entire internet evaluating millions of tweets, posts and predictions.

There's always 100 random people on forums claiming "Nintendo Direct this day". He would have no possible way of differentiating them from any of the other 500 random unknown nobodies who've never so much as made a single prediction before, much less get one right.

@Lord 5? Really? I think the 14 minute Mini ND had about 10, and the 3 minute launch trailer for Switch had 5 in only 3 minutes - Skyrim, Zelda, MK8D, Splatoon 2 and ARMS - and 90% of that 3 minutes was people's faces.

30 minutes they'll have 20 games. Sure, a bunch will be a quick indie mashup but we already know more than 5, Kirby, Mario Tennis, Yoshi, Labo (Labo only counts as one no matter how many they show) Hyrule Warriors, Pikachu, Castle Wolfenstein. DLC story modes for both Mario+Rabbids and XC2. That's 9. If you mean NEW games, well I don't expect 5 of those, maybe not even 1, though there likely will be 1 new Wii U port at the end to close it, SSB, SMM, or Daiblo. So 10 games not counting the 5 game indie mash-up. NDs are much faster than they used to be with that bullet list format.

Burnout Paradise and Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3. Come on 4 Chan clown laughing at me for his elaborate trolling.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 for the 3DS would be a pleasant surprise. Otherwise just expecting really details for games already announced. A slate of release dates would be brilliant.

If they just put out some solid release dates for the Switch versions of Hyrule Warriors and World Ends With You, I'll be happy.

I don't think we will get many surprises for Switch. I think they are slow playing it right now to set up the 20 Mill sales in FY2019. No need to hype up the gaming crowd until after April when the new year hits officially. Especially when they destroyed 1st year estimated numbers.

3DS will have some surprises I think though. Not much really happening on it currently and I think they will have a few 3rd party surprises and maybe a couple ports or remasters to make the year seem fuller.

Sometime closer to E3 I expect a pretty full direct with a lot of info and then a huge E3 Direct full of surprises to push Switch Sales into over drive.

Or Prime 4 will be announced tomorrow with a release date of Friday and our collective heads will explode.........

I have this weird mix of hype and fear. Normally I would try to predict the announcements but pretty much anything is fair game at this point. I just hope there is at least one or two big announcements.

@rjejr I'd be okay with a new Kirby amiibo, I'm sure if I buy it my daughter will be floored. Kirby and Mario are her favorite Nintendo characters, then the Inklings are a close second (third?). When you say 2 joy cons, do you mean 2 sets, or two individual joy con controllers?

I personally don't think we have enough kingdoms in Super Mario Odyssey. It'd be nice to see more kingdoms announced as DLC. Maybe even Isle Delfino!

I'm quite disappointed that the 3DS is not being given a farewell yet. At this point, the 3DS may start cannibalizing the Switch's sales (although so far it's not happening). Send the 3DS a proper farewell and get on with the Switch.

As for this direct, don't expect too much. Don't get your hopes too high.

Wow, the predictions here are pretty varied.

Me? I just want a new Warioware game, I could see myself wanting more information on Bayonetta 3, Hyrule Warriors DX, that Yoshi game, or games that haven't been announced officially yet, like a new 2D Mario, or a Smash Bros Wii U port, but honestly what I need right now is just some classic pick up and play Warioware. It's been too long.

I talk way too much sometimes.

I want a web browser, Netflix, voice chat, virtual Consol, and the ability to message friends on my friends list!

I’m holding out for a really good solitaire port. It needs to be 60fps 1080 in docked mode and so detailed I can see the dirt on the edge of the cards. Plus a cool story mode where you play a gold prospector whos stranded in a wood cabin with nothing but a pack of cards and a bottle of bourbon. Life and death stuff.

My money is on them dropping Mario Kart ios. It was around March when fire Emblem came out.

I honestly don't get the comments here. People are always hyping themselves, which leads to dissapointment because Nintendo couldn't exceed or furfill their expectations.

Hype shouldn't be bad. But really.. The chances we will see Fire Emblem, or Pikmin 4 are really slim. The same for Smash. Especially when you consider E3 is arriving soon.

I don't expect much. But here I go anyway: I want a new isometric Zelda on Switch! Oh it could be sooo big and good looking. And I mean totally new, overworld and all.

Some stuff about what's already known of I agree with, stuff not already known of, here's what I have to say bout that:
*Next Official Mario Kart game for Switch: Probably that might be announced to be in Development similar to how Metroid Prime 4 was last year at this year's E3. Would really make my day if it is.
*Mario & Sonic at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games: They can announce it in this Direct or at Sega's Event next week.
*Super Mario Maker 2: I don't see that happening until after the Next 2D Mario Game and unless the Switch can have itself a Miiverse Counterpart.
*New 2D Mario Game, Mario Party 10 Deluxe, Luigi's Mansion 3 and New Captain Toad Adventure: Would be nice if those were announced this year whether they be at E3, in this Presentation, or in a Future Presentation.

The traditional hardcore market with it's AAA third party titles is not growing and it pretty niche compared to the mobile/smart phone market.

At its height in the Ps2/Xbox era there were around 180 million consoles sold,the next generation with the Ps3/Xbox 360 saw around 160 million consoles shifted,the only difference being the ratio of sales between the two console makers with Microsoft taking more of the pie that time around,the current generation will end up at around the same as last time possibly may creep towards the Ps2/Xbox generation depending on when Sony or Microsoft announce their next machines.

The reason the market is growing in is the amount of extra dlc that is shoved down peoples throats,pure and simple.

Nintendo have not been part of this market since the Wii and to be honest have been doing pretty well,I mean come on do we really need three consoles competing for around 160-170 million consoles?....and at best Nintendo could hope for around a 50 million share of this.

Does this make sense to anybody?..hell even in a generation like the Wii U and 3DS Nintendo have managed to shift around 84 million consoles,Nintendo will be always going their own way as the traditional hardcore market is a lost cause for them and has been for a long time.

Nintendo has and will always have it's hardcore fans,plus if they make a nice piece of hardware like the Switch they can not only tap the huge potential of the mass market,they will also get incremental sales from the more hardcore market who will see the Switch as a nice powerful handheld to go alongside their Ps4/Xbox One.

All the third party support in the world will hardly make any difference to any of this,as it will always be Nintendo's mainline and indie games that will push Nintendo's latest console,sure we will see third party ports as the companies will see a profit there as the console continues to shift significant numbers of hardware,but this will always be a niche part of the systems overall game sales.

Nintendo would be far better served by getting as many top Wii U titles as it can ported to the system as these games will be brand new to a huge percentage of the existing and potential Switch market.

I've heard that the Sushi Striker game that was announced for 3DS at E3 2017 is being ported to the Switch.

Not expecting fireworks for this - BUT - wondering if a new IP might be announced?? It would give them time to build the understanding and hype around the game ahead of the big hitters dominating at / after E3. Like they did with ARMS. Maybe even release before E3 like that did.

I think they want to be seen to be innovating this year - differentiating themselves and getting attention. LABO is a great example of this but I think they'll want something more mature as well. Some thing to excite the press and get people talking Nintendo.

Either that or a new Wave Race - that would be truly special!!

I'm happy to hear that there'll be some 3DS news. I think the whole "all in on the Switch" line of reasoning is nonsense. Development for both is very different and you can't just throw 3DS resources at Switch projects.

I hope it's a better direct this time and not just Mario Tennis and the rest being yet another Nindy showcase.

I understand the place of ports in the early days of any new console, but at the end of this direct I'd like the optimism that there is new and original content coming to Switch, that I haven't already played on my Wii U.

@Bass_X0 Don't get me wrong, Blue Storm is a really fun game.
But compared to WaveRace 64, it's missing quite a few things that would have made the game an all-time classic.
For one, the controls are too stiff. The controls in 64 feel very natural and like you're actually controlling the person that's controlling the jetski, instead of the jetski itself.
The water-physics as well, while not bad in any way, do feel not quite as brilliant as in the first one.
Then there's the music and overall atmosphere which differs so much between both games.
Waverace 64 for me is still one of my favourite racing games that I can play all day long, even till this day. And Blue Storm is just a good racer to spend a bit of time with, but not something I can lose a whole week of my vacation on these days.

@IronMan28 My teenage son - they're so much fun at this age - reprimanded me last night for the Kirby amiibo idea b/c they already have a bunch from one of the 3DS games. My other teenage son wanted one to do something specific in the game but we have old 3DS and no portal so we never got one. Which is weird. We don't have a lot of smiibo, 2 dozen maybe (that's not a lot for us, we have well over 100 Skylanders, probably 50 Lego Dimensions sets and Disney Infinity characters - guess who's buying Labo, this family) but we have most of the major franchises covered, Mario, Zelda, Yoshi, Animal Crosding, Pokemon, Splatoon, Bayonetta, Final Fantasy, but no Kirby. I swore we had King Dedede but no.

Seems like the NFC reader on Switch is getting as much use as the built in camera in the Wii U Gamepad. 😛 (We have Zelda BotW on Wii U)

We have 1 set, 2 joycon, the red ones that came in the Mario bundle. I bought one of those wired controllers for about $18. Our Switch gets very little use since we finished Mario, we play a lot more on the PS4. We'll get Kirby and Yoshi day 1, Labo this summer, we're skipping all the ports b/c we have all those on Wii U. Tennis only if there's motion control and a really good single player story, but on sale for $30 some day. Waiting on the DLC for XC2 and Mario +Rabbids. Anything multiplat we get on PS4 b/c Sony isn't stupid and they keep putting those games on sale, I'm looking forward to the $60 Ys 8 Switch release this summer b/c it will go on sale for $30 on PS4 around then. So no new Joycon for us. Unless they give us a very good reason. 4 player Subspace Emissary 2 where all of our amiibo are playable might work.

I can't help but wonder if there's not more to this Mario Tennis than we were teased with in January. In my mind, there's a possibility that this might be a jam-packed release with all kinds of Nintendo goodness. Maybe a story mode a la Golf Story? I'm not a sports fan at all, but I LOVED Golf Story and something like that might make me pick up a Mario Tennis game. No clue at all what the other teases will be, but I'm always excited for more info!

I reckon Switch Rewards on My Nintendo wil go live. Why I here you ask? The 'Switch Rewards - Coming Soon' Icon has disappeared from My Nintendo.

I hope....I really hope there won't be too many ''ports and remastered games''. I just don't understand how about 5% of the games coming out on the Switch are old titles....Bring us a new Mario Party, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Kart, Far Cry, Need 4 Speed or something!

Count me in with those crossing their fingers for a “Hollow Knight” date! And perhaps one for “Battle Chasers” too — though I don’t want to get too greedy! Per the developer, we know the latter needs a 6ish week production period following Nintendo approval, which was issued just recently... but “Hollow Knight” could thereotically arrive any minute... perhaps even today. So say we all.

I never went through one wanting every single game announced. I did this time. Even Mario Tennis Aces. It looked really good. Dismissed it straight away last time, but I've definitely warmed to it.

Only letdown is no life sign of Mario Maker. On the other hand that means the Wii U still has a place in this world.
