Anyone else wondering about Link? Like BOTW opened up so many possibilities to a new moveset: ancient arrows, static, magnesis, elemental attacks... I would not complain if they were to add two links: BOTW Link and Pre-BOTW link.

All of the 3DS & Wii U characters plus Inklings, Ice Climbers, Wolf, and probably 4 more. Cloud is likely in danger though.

I tried squinting at the silhouettes before but couldn't really make anyone out. I think I got Bowser, Link, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus, Pikachu, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Yoshi, Mega Man and Samus.

But there's 1 more, or I should say, 2 more. The Ice Climbers, possibly, immediately to the right of Donkey Kong.

I don't want Cloud in this Smash. Never should have been there in the first place. No Snake either. No stupid characters that have no business in a celebration of characters on Nintendo home systems(we've only previously had 1 handheld Smash Bros. game). But let's hear the suggestions for a laugh.

Which of course leads to the conclusion that Nintendo intends to release an accessory along with Smash Switch, Nintendo Smello. That's right, we'll be able to smell the carnage as it's happening, including Wario's moves! The accessory will also be compatible with the 3DS for WarioWare Gold!

Cut 8 player, it will never work in tabletop mode.

Add Bayonetta into the main game. 1 of her supporting characters from B3 can be DLC.
Add Odyssey Mario, playable at all times with Cappy as his main weapon
Add 1 ARMS character, another as DLC later
Add the inklings, Octogirl as DLC later
Add Callie and Marie as trophies.
Add stages from Splatoon, ARMS, Kirby AS, Odyssey, BotW, 1 2 Switch, Snipperclips, Pokken

Add Subspace Emissary 2 or something similar.

But most importantly, add separate save files, no sharing like on Wii U.

If they do all that and rearrange things a bit even if it's the same engine they can still sell it as new.

Done if those guesses are a bit of a stretch. My guess, smash switch is just the Wii U amd 3ds versions combined. All the stages, modes, and a few extra characters. But as for super sonic or trench coat wario, I am doubtful.
Still, this confirms my suspicion about it coming this year and I’ll be purchasing 3 copies for our 3 switch’s.

Nintendo's new Smash is going to be all about 8 bit fighters. It'll not only have NES fighters though, but also guest appearances from the Sega Master System, C64, Amstrad, Spectrum, MSX, and other 8 bit computers.

New rule for 3rd parties: your 3rd party character can't "reprezent" in the smash roster if you haven't made a full fledged 3rd party game for the switch with said character. So it is written, so it shall be done.

@rjejr Why would you cut Pacman though? Namco has released at least two Pacman related games on the Switch already. There's Pacman Championship Edition 2 and Namco Museum (with multiplayer Pacman Vs. released for free) not to mention all of the other games they've supported the console with so far.

@Donutman Then why is it being developed by Nintendo and HAL laboratories? The last smash HAL made was melee. If it was a port why wouldn’t they have just come out and said it? Why would it have a teaser?

Like I said, it’d be cool to throw a Tekken character in like Kazuya Mishima with a devil mode. Especially if Bandai Namco is involved.

@Ernest_The_Crab I listed Pacman b/c I remembered he was in the game, not a "core character" and therefore needed to be taken out to promote SSB as a new game and not a port.

So it dawned on my while I'm typing this that some people are still assuming it a port. And if it is a port or Deluxe or Complete or whatever then fine Pacman can stay it. My lost list of in and out is based on Nintendo selling this as a new game.

Now even a new Smash game is going to have characters in common, you can't cut the Nintendo main stays, everyone that has been in every game must come back, and probably a few that were in just the last 2 or 3. So for people who want to say "it's not a new game, it's just a port", well there are going to be similarities, but Nintendo needs to minimize the unnecessary ones. Pacman to me is one of those.

If it's a port obviously he and mostly everyone else can stay. Except the Mii fighters, too much last gen.

@Yorumi ET can be in if his supermegaultimate move is the other fighters getting buried under a pile ET Atari game cartridges. That would be so cool.

I don’t mind Cloud, because I understand that Final Fantasy VII caused a wedge between Square Enix, and Nintendo. Allowing him to be in Smash Bros was a gift of reconciliation by Square Enix.

What I don’t like is that no other Final Fantasy characters besides him appeared. Final Fantasy is one of the most famous RPGs of all time, and some titles often appear on top lists. Nintendo should honor the legacy of famous Nintendo FF titles. Here is what I think should appear.

Final Fantasy VI. It is the most popular Nintendo era Final Fantasy, and obviously has merit of being there. Mog, Terra, Celes, or Locke Cole would be the best picks based on familiarity. Kefka could work for a villain. As for stages, I could see Kefkas Tower, The Opera House, The Boat, Narshe, or Figaro Castle.

The next obvious choice is Final Fantasy IV. It’s the other popular Nintendo title that would make for great additions to the roster. Kain Highwind, Rydia, Cecil, and Exdeath are the obvious choices. As for stages, I would make the moon the Final Fantasy IV stage.

Final Fantasy I, II, III, and V would be best referenced as assist trophies, and items. Perhaps they could make an item similar to the Pokéball, but in the form of a crystal. If you use it, it would call a random summon, or hero onto the stage.

Oh, and that reminds me. A summon would make a great fighter as well. My vote is Shiva. She would work the best over most of them due to her humanlike appearance.

If they want to go beyond Final Fantasy, I would suggest Chrono Trigger, or Kingdom Hearts. Bravely Default might be okay too.

If it is smash 5 they could just put every character from every smash game and it be the ultimate version. And still add extras like bomberman etc...

Needs a proper single player adventure too though.

Obviously that silhouette of a character with large, round shoulders is Dr. Coyle.

By the way, you do realize your "No Sword" rule also means everyone from Fire Emblem will be cut, as will Meta Knight who is a popular character from the Kirby series, and even characters like Greninja(who uses a water sword in some of his attacks)

I get cutting down the number of sword fighters, but to cut out everyone besides Link is a bit extreme.

Great job there of figuring out the characters. I'm pretty sure the silhouette in the far right corner bottom is Jabba the Hut, which is great that they are adding star wars characters now. Also, I'm pretty sure I can see Bubsy the Cat and Skeletor in there too. Looks like it's going to be a great roster.

But really, nobody needs the Mii fighters. Nobody ever needed the Mii fighters. Or all of those sword fighters. What were they up to, 5 ro 6 sword fighters? That was always too many.

I mean sure if they're selling it as SSB4 Deluxe go ahead and leave them all in, leave the game as it is, but if they want to sell it as SSB5 or 6, gotta cut some to make room for more, they arne't going to release a fighter with 80 characters, and they do need to add some of those I mentioned.

And I have to say, as a long time nut I always care abotu details and dates, but I have to hand it to Ntinedo on this one, leaving us hanging like that on the port or not port question was the best thing they've done in awhile to drum up hype. Or at least discussion. If they just would have said SSB4 Complete we'd be talking less. If they said SSB 5, we'd talk more than a port, but even then nto as much as this.

Well yeah that would certainly suck for you. But on the other hand - you already have THAT SSB game, why spend $60 to rebuy the same game, wouldn't you'd rather spend $60 to buy a new game with new characters to play? That's how I look at it. New game = new characters, port = old characters and all $100 DLC for $60. If they are going to port it, port it, but if they are going to make a new game, well then, make a new game.

As for the sword fighters, you're probably right, I just know they added a lot from FE at the end, practically enough sword fighters in there, including those you mentioned, to make a Super Sword Bros game. And Cloud. And I'm a big huge FF7 fanboi, even bought the amiibo but never played with it, but he was another sword fighter. I'd rather weird people like Lana or Midna if they are going to add more characters, and cut at least half of the sword people. I suppose Metaknigth could stay, he's kind of a staple at this point. But Shulk should go, he had 1 game, and even though it's perhaps my 2nd all time favorite JRPG behind FF7, I'd still prefer they open up the slot for someone else.

But again, I'm of the mind that it's a new full priced game that will have new DLC characters for sale in 2019, in which case they should try and change it up as much as possible, I already own SSB4U if I want to play that.

Back on topic: Bowser, Samus, Link, Mario, Marth, Donkey Kong, Zelda (?) were the ones I found out with those silhouettes.

I really hope they look inward and improve the experience for the characters they add. As of now we're looking into "Hipster" levels of new characters, the more obscure and becomes the pissing contest of who enjoyed what before it was "Smash Cool."

Improve the single player, make it worth replaying over again to enjoy, unlike 4 where it felt grindy for trophies and SSE being so deep in story it outright lacked replayability. Seriously, once you got what you needed from either, never felt fun anymore.

Though I did like the 3DS single player, I would like to take elements from that.

Also, I hope to see some more Custom Robo anything at this point. They removed the AT and it hurt me on a deep, spiritual level.

Done some more thinking, and I think the Smash Logo is actually the disc on Amaterasu's back. So there you have it, Okami confirmed as a character.

At first I said no to Waluigi since he's only in spin-off titles... but now that I'm thinking about it again, screw it, he should be in it. Waluigi practically defines Mario spin-off titles and those are still Nintendo games. And you have all the other bros so why not? And most of all, so many people want him. Next time I buy a Smash game I better have some maximum WAAAAH in my battles!

I want fresh takes on classic characters. Bring back Young Link, but instead of making him a clone, have his abilities revolve around the different masks from MM. Give Luigi his vacuum from LM and build a new kit around that. Ganondorf should not be a clone of Captain Falcon. I would be ok without Falco, but if he stays hopefully they will mix his kit up more. Just no more clones please. But Young Link please Nintendo

What's with all the people wanting the miis to be cut?Making a custom character is awesome,I love playing as myself.Also,there no way Ashley would have been playable whithout mii fighters.She doesn't have any attacks,the one she does as an assist trophy is just Luigi's old final smash.
And we wouldn't have gotten the Reggie vs Iwata anime fight.

I have to disagree with people wanting some of the third party guest characters cut from the roster.

I understand that the super smash experience is a celebration of Nintendo icons first and foremost, but I believe the smash experience has evolved into something bigger than that.

Super Smash Bros. is now a celebration of gaming in general. It's focus is not just on nintendo, but on the most influential icons across gaming history. I for one find it quite fitting that this amazing franchise sits on Nintendo's stage, where the joy of gaming has always seemed most pure to me.

Well just keep all of them on the roster
