Success Corporation's 2000 arcade shooter Psyvariar is getting updated for the Switch, it has been revealed.
City Connection - the studio behind the recent Soldam and Penguin Wars revivals - are bringing the classic vertical shooter to Nintendo's console in July, under the name Psyvariar Restoration.
It has only been confirmed for release in Hong Kong and Taiwan at present, but it is understood that Dispatch Games could be bringing it to Japan as well. There's no word on a western release at present.
Psyvariar was ported to the PlayStation 3 in 2003, and even received a release in Europe, thanks to Xplosive Games. A sequel followed in the arcades, which was subsequently ported to the Sega Dreamcast in Japan.

As we’re getting DC SHMUPS I really want Sturmwind, Giga Wing 1 and 2, Fast Striker, Neo XYX, Borderdown, Mars Matrix, dammit too many to name!
Also would kill to get the Marvel Vs Capcom DC games too.
I had to sell my rather large and rather rare DC collection to fund my Switch so I’m over the moon I’ve been able to buy so many of my SHMUPS and fighters back, it’s like the circle of life 😹

I'll probably pick this up if it comes to the west, and gets a physical release. Love me some Shmups!

Man, I hope this one has a vertical play option in desktop mode.
On a related note, I've actually been wanting to play a good hybrid shmup/RPG lately (like one with an actual story and good sense of leveling/progression with each playthrough) but I haven't found any really good ones yet. Can anyone toss me any suggestions? Platform doesn't matter, console/handheld/PC, all good.

Owned this game for years for my Playstation 2 (not 3, tut tut tut) yet onlynrecently played and couldn’t believe how good it was. Any Switch release will be mine!
Like so many of the shooters on Switch, I've never played it before. I'll be adding this beauty to my already impressive collection of retro and modern shoot-em-ups the day it lands on the Eshop.
Psyvariar 2 on Dreamcast is my favourite shmup ever, can't wait for this!
Funny that we found out about this so shortly before the release of Danmaku Unlimited 3, another shmup with a grazing system.
Regret: I had a copy of Psyvariar 2 for the DC that I sold years ago.
Hopefully this mean Psyvariar 2 is coming. That's one of the greatest shmups EVER. Bring Gradius V over as well.

This is one of the very best shooters out there. Wow im surprised to see this launch.
Really interesting and exciting to see 'modern' arcade games such as these nestle in nicely along with the classic 80's and 90's arcade games we are getting on Switch.
