Brazilian firm QUByte Interactive has revealed that it has gained the console rights to Visco Corporation's Vasara series.
Originally released in arcades in 2000, Vasara is a bullet hell shooter set in 17th century Japan. Its visuals made it unique for the time, but it would be the dual attack system - which combined projectiles and melee attacks - which ensured that it stood out from the crowd.
QUByte has confirmed that it also has the rights to Vasara 2, which was released in 2001. Both games will be updated with HD visuals and will launch in Vasara HD Collection next year.
This pack will release on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Both games are pretty excellent despite not being as well know as Psikyo's offerings.
I've never heard of them either but I want them too. Just wish they were coming before next year. It's not as if I'm short of shoot-em-ups to keep me busy in the meantime though. Already pre-ordered Steredenn: Binary Stars and we've got Danmaku coming next week. I think that's what I'll buy with my MyNintendo gold coins.
It was something like this that played early 90's, not sure if exact same games but NICE!
E: Not same, but similar.
Was excited there for a minute as I read next week instead of next year. :-/
Why would the graphics need reworking? Just release the arcade perfect versions like pretty much every fan wants and be done with it.
Reworking classics such as these only adds to the possibility of messing them up in one way or another.
The Switch is THE go-to console for classic shoot-em-ups.
I love it.
Sweet.
Do we know what’s coming next from our beloved Zerodiv?
Hehe, at first I thought they were made by a Finnish company, because vasara is Finnish for hammer! That word would suit a hard hitting shooter like this.
Why next year though? Why not next month? It's not like these games required any R&D, all they do is basically what HAMSTER is already doing.
@NinChocolate Next up is either Sol Divide or Taisen Hot Gimmick. Fingers crossed it's the former.
2019?? geez
@OorWullie oh Sol Divide, nice
Next year???
@Neopolss These aren't bullet hell as such, just busy shooters.
@Pahvi Shhh, you'll spoil it for the rest of us and everyone will resent you
Gonna catch'em all (cit Pokemon)
@OorWullie well, sol divide is pretty sick!
Just need some lifeforce, gradius 5 and some gynoug. God I’d love those three on the switch
A shooter set in ancient japan? Wow, now that's a change in setting! I wonder how they styled their enemi...enter GIANT ARMORED TRAIN - nevermind. -_-
It still looks like a nice game though!
@Mr_Pepperami Loved Gynoug, it's been such a long time since I played that beauty. If I could pick one other Megadrive shooter I'd love to see on Switch it would have to be Hellfire. For many years that was my all time favourite, yet I doubt it's one that many others would rate so highly as the years went by. A couple of years back I finally played it again after 25 or so years and it was as good as I remembered. Holds up pretty well for such an early Megadrive title. It's R-type levels of tough though.
@OorWullie haha yeah I had hellfire back in the day as well. Very good game but I absolutely loved Gynoug. The art style, music etc was just outstanding. Wouldn’t mind some of the thunderforces as well but don’t want to be greedy
Next year! It's only, February. That's a long why's off for an announcement. Lol
Good games, often play these on my cab. Has a bit of replay value also with how you collect flags and mini-bosses.
Shame it's such a wait as the HD update interests me.
Looks great but I’m not sure any of these can top my Sky Force Reloaded experience.
It's nice to have something to look forward to in 2019.
I mean, sure, it's still pretty far away, but within the next 2-3 months we'll get Danmaku Unlimited 3, Steredenn, Aero Fighters 3, Ghost Pilots and Sol Divide, so it's not like we aren't busy enough right now.
Will be getting. You know cave if you want to toss your library on the switch I won't say no.
Cool to see some 'modern' arcade games coming to Switch. My heart belongs to the late 80s and 90s arcade titles but these newer arcade games are still awesome as it gives many of us a chance to play them for the first time. Perhaps, the process of getting arcade games built on hardware from the early 2000s onto Switch is more tricky hence the longer development time? On the wishlist they go for sure.
@Ryu_Niiyama I know right! Switch sure is becoming Bullet Heaven by now.
CAVE games are probably considered the highest standard in the subgenre, with highscore scenes still going after years of their initial releases. Degica has been releasing a few of their games on Steam in recent years but the height of CAVE's library is still missing, probably because their Steam ports are based on ready Xbox 360 ports. A port of a port, basically.
