Surprising absolutely no one Nintendo has just announced that Pearl and Marina from Splatoon 2 will become the latest addition to the plastic revolution known as amiibo. At the time of writing we don't know when they'll be dropping or what goodies they'll unlock, but we do know that the two inkling celebs will come with a price tag of $24.99 for a pack of two. A small teaser trailer was also revealed that showcases the fine plastic details on each amiibo.
This announcement comes hot of the heels from the duo's début live concert at Niconico Tokaigi and coincides with Japan's National Foundation Day.
We've also learned Splatoon 2 will be getting a new weapon variant with the Dark Tetra Dualies (which enable you to perform four dodge rolls in a roll and even fire while rolling) along with a brand new level - the Goby Arena, set on a state-of-the-art basketball court. Time for some red hot dunks!

I've been waiting for those amiibo since they showed Pearl and Marina. Gimme!
I knew this was coming. They seem to be following the same pattern as Splatoon 1. The amiibo are announced after the first concert.
And we all know that Marina is an OCTOLING.
Great! Now I won't be allowed into my room until I've listened to them chat rubbish for 1 whole minute.
They look alright, still not a huge fan of marina's design.
More interested in the new weapon and stage.
And they’ll be gone minutes after being put on shelves, never to be seen again. I still have never seen a Splatoon 2 amiibo in the wild. You’d think that after nearly four years of this, Nintendo could stock the things sufficiently...

I loved the concert! They did so much with Marina! And Pearl couldn't raise her arms above her head (makes me think the choreography performers have to wear some headgear). Oh, and it was nostalgic seeing "special guests"!
The new Dualies, might have a bigger range, power, and/or fire rate deficiency compared to the others.
The new stage looks pretty jumbled, but I hope it works out well. Might be funny playing Clam Blitz on a basketball court, though.
I like them and will try get them for my collection, but please... Stop announcing new amiibo...

I really like the amiibo concept. I have quite a few of them myself, but what purpose do they really serve anymore? Nintendo needs to really build something around these or just do away with them. On the Wii U many had strong function, but on the Switch they are mostly just collector's items.
Day 1 buy for me. Can't wait
@thesilverbrick The things are dying a slow death(thank God). We all know the minority remaining interested in them will have to be bashing the F5 button repeatedly to get an order on Amazon or Nintendo's UK online store.

I kinda think it might have been the original boy & girl as well as the squid from Splatoon 1. Or was it the plush Yoshi?

These amiibo look great.
These amiibo don't do much for me. Then again, most amiibo don't do much for me. I'm still glad Nintendo will support this game for a while. The last splatfest between Pearl and Marina will be interesting. Only question is, who will I choose?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yeah, they’re definitely on the decline. I don’t expect them to disappear entirely anytime soon, though. They’re the kind of collector’s item Nintendo can make a few of each year and turn a profit. I don’t expect another massive series of them like they did for Smash, Zelda or Animal Crossing, but I foresee a half dozen or so new amiibo every year for a while to come. They’re not exactly tied to any one game like Skylanders or Disney Infinity were, so it’s easy enough to continue to make a few here and there as they see fit with minimal risk.

I hope that these two do more than the Squid Sisters amiibo did in the original game, and I also hope this means the Splatoon 2 Inkling figures are getting restocked, because the only Splatoon amiibo I'm missing is the purple Squid.

@saiyantrunks79 The regular Splatoon 2 amiibo can store a gear and weapon loadout that you can load up again by tapping the amiibo on the equip screen. Handy when you're on the go, in a competition (if they allow it), or if you can't be bothered to manually change your gear (wading through all those pages). Though, I haven't tried saving a loadout to the Marie amiibo, not sure if that would work or not.
The Pearl and Marina amiibo will probably unlock the Splatfest concert mode down the line (they sing their songs for you), just like the Callie and Marie amiibo, when the Splatfests are finished a year and a half from now. Maybe they'll finally let the Callie amiibo be used at some point? There could be a game mode DLC or something down the line?
I guess my Pearl amiibo can join Waluigi in a safe in an underwater cave guarded by laser sharks.

@RogerFederer I have them already, but I had to import them from Japan. It just seems foolish to sell and advertise something that the average consumer will never see in a store.
@thesilverbrick I'm in NY and the thrill is gone but they are still around. Target has its small section, Gamestop has a small section, Toys R Us has a big section (might be why the are closing so many stores and nearing their bankruptcy end). I've seen Splatoon, nought the new squid recently just b/c he was cool looking and $5 clearance at Target. All the Zelda BotW and DLC have been around.
Honestly Ive seen more on store shelves recently than before of Bayonetta and others.

I'm buying these for sure, assuming they can be found. Splatoon 2 has been one of my top games since its release, and the Inklings are some of the cutest amiibo out there.

Why did they put a Bokoblin amiibo next to Marina in the trailer?
I wish they'd do something with the line. I read a cool article last year about an idea for a Nintendo MOBA that could utilize them, or a game like Skylander. I can see why some might want the Splatoon ones, but the vast majority have no real purpose anymore, which is kind of sad.
If they allow us to bypass the news each time we boot the game, I'm in.

The game that keeps on giving. We recently just jumped back into playing, and it was as though we never stopped except that there are so many new levels, weapons, and clothing.
I want the Amiibos but I'm not sure we'll buy them or not.
