American illustrator Christopher Cayco has recently finished 'Draw Em All!', a mammoth project that saw him drawing every single Pokémon on one single poster in 340 hours – which was done over the course of 42 consecutive days.
If you like your maths, you’ll notice that some Pokémon (such as Pikachu, Mewtwo and Arbok) have been drawn more than once, upping this poster’s critter count to well over 1000 ‘Mon. There’s also several neat nods encompassed within the piece, such as Mega Evolved, colour and shiny variants (including the Red Gyarados from Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal). In fact, he’s even gone so far as to incorporate a few unorthodox entities from the franchise’s illustrious history, such as Shadow Lugia, the infamous Missingno. and even a beta design! Impressively thoughtful stuff.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Cayco has completed a feat such as this – he actually did the same thing in 2016, although this iteration has a higher resolution, with more Pokémon added such as that of Generation VII’s. Additionally, Cayco mentions that his skills have improved so much more than the previous version, that he had to give it another go.
You can buy a print of the poster here.

Color me impressed. Saw this on another site, watching it in action is something else.
The mind boggles! Major respect!
By the way, there's way too many Pokemon these days. It was a stretch to "catch 'em all" at the time of the original game, but now it's just at a point where I expect very few people ever get the satisfaction of having collected them all.
Also, I still think the original Pokemon designs, definitely most of gen 1 and maybe less with each gen after that, were generally much stronger and more universally appealing than most of the newer designs. Now I feel most of the new designs are either overly cluttered/busy and hard to read visually or just kinda fugly and unappealing.
@impurekind At this point, the mark of a true master is just remembering all thier names.
So... Honest question.... I have no knowledge whatsoever about graphic design or any artsy stuffs... What's he tracing at the beginning? I'm sure it's all very impressive if you understand what he's actually doing, but for some of us who don't, it just kinda looks like tracing and auto filling colours...
@Kalmaro I can imagine.
@daveh30 He probably just quickly sketched in the general shapes and stuff initially as a reference point, otherwise it would be nigh-on impossible just to just draw something like this on the fly and not end up with it being a totally mess.
@daveh30 Rough outlines of the poses and such. These only serve as reference points and are deleted once the tracing is done. Would be a pain, well more of a pain than it already was, to draw them in full detail without reference points.
All in all, I‘m very impressed there‘s somebody out there willing to spend their free time drawing all these. Great Job, dude!
@GoldenGamer88 @impurekind so would the initial rough sketch be done on paper, scanned, then "inked" on the computer?
@daveh30 Software like these typically have several pens, pencils, brushes and such. All of this is done digitally, I presume.
Love that Omanyte was drawn next to Arceus, the god of the Pokémon universe. Praise Lord Helix!
@GoldenGamer88 @daveh30 It depends on what his prefered method is. He could have drawn this on paper, and scanned it in as his reference, or he could have drawn it digitally. Think of what he's tracing as the first draft.
I watched the first 15 minutes, to where he was starting to outline the gen 3 Pokemon. This is amazing and I plan to watch more when I have the time. I've always wanted to do something similar to this, but this guy's quality is insanely good.
@daveh30 Nah, he probably just quickly sketched in the rough guidelines in the same art package he used for the rest of the image I imagine.
@impurekind That's why Pokebank is a godsend. I completed the Pokedex in Generation VI games so it made it way easier to do it in Generation VII since I had a vast majority of the Pokemon already. Also in Generation VII you only had to complete the regional dex to get the gift for dex completion which if they keep in future games makes it a lot less daunting. 400 is easier than over 800.
@Arcamenel Very true.
Now he needs to do it again to include the five new Pokémon. Better get started.
Now someone get it tattooed.
Shame they released 5 new Pokemon in USUM huh?
Now if only he'd do the same for every single Digimon. I'd like it a lot more too.
That's quite the dedication.
He did a incredible job. If I had any space on my walls (and the money) I totally feel that 30 bucks for a poster print would be worth it.
@thesilverbrick the new pokemon (and even more) are in the finished version in the deviantart link.
@impurekind @daveh30 @GoldenGamer88 From the deviantart page:
@Meowpheel THAT makes sense. I noticed there were a few Pokemon where he was deviating quite a bit from the original linework, so that explains it. Smart.
@Meowpheel Wow, you’re right. I noticed them up at the top. The more I look at the drawing, the more impressive it gets. This guy clearly dedicated a huge portion of time to this and it shows. I might actually buy a print to support him.
I might buy a print too.
I'm just falling in love with this drawing...
My right hand hurts just thinking about it.
This would make an excellent poster
