A lot of what emerges from the mind of Paris Hilton isn't worth reporting on, but somehow the stars have aligned and this vacuous celebrity has uttered something actually worth taking note of.
Hilton has tweeted a question that we've not pondered ourselves until now: why hasn't Nintendo put Nintendogs on smartphones?
Nintendo's push into the mobile space has been spearheaded by the likes of Super Mario, Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing, but Nintendogs has the potential to be a true killer app; a virtual pet that's at your side 24 hours a day.
The first game in the series managed to combine several of the Nintendo DS console's unique features to create a truly innovative piece of software, and the universal appeal of pets could make this a real money-spinner on iOS and Android devices.
Let us know if you'd like to see Nintendogs get a revival on smartphones, or if you'd prefer a full-fat Switch sequel instead.

smartphones would work better for this than the switch, I agree
Forget John Cena and Charlie Booker Nintendo needs to get Paris Hilton as there celebrity spokesman.
Because it's called NINTENDOgs, you silly Nintendog.
Pet games are a dime a dozen on smartphones. Nintendo could fulfil a niche by giving us a new instalment on Switch (which I would love to see, along with a new big-screen HD Tomodachi Life). Sadly the lack of a camera, microphone and stereoscopic 3D on the Switch may (in these respects at least) make a Switch sequel inferior by default, but they could win a lot of people over with HD visuals and HD rumble (provided that they can simulate the tactility of the pets). Some motion controlled activities wouldn't go astray either.
"Paris Hilton ponders..." that is something I never thought possible.
Why are you giving that muppet any attention?
She's not wrong.
I wouldn't say she pondered is as such as what she said is more an expression of an opinion as opposed to asking a question out loud, which is what you've made out to sound like. Also, really? You have to have a bit of a bash at her in the lead up to the "question" she didn't ask.
@FragRed sounds dangerous, doesn't it
"A rare moment of clarity"
Well, I disagree. Because as we all know here, Nintendo Apps on mobiles are for marketing purposes, to catch the attention of people on Nintendo products and characters, so they would buy games on 3DS or Switch.
And for the moment, every signs shows that Nintendogs is a dead franchise. And if that's the case, ther's no point for Nintendo to create an Nintendog's app.
Maybe Nintendo will announce a new Nintendogs in the next weeks or months on Switch, and proove me wrong, but I highly doubt that. Nintendogs sounds today too much like a game you only would play on mobile (which explains why Paris Hilton wants it on her iPhone).
@smashboy2000
"Nintendogs sounds today too much like a game you only would play on mobile (which explains why Paris Hilton wants it on her iPhone)."
Really ?
But i still have Nintendogs + Cats: Toy Poodle for my 3DS.
@BensonUii You realise she was paid to attend those events right?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE she's not wrong...
Celebrities are usually useless and a waste of space. Especially this one.
@smashboy2000 What signs are there that it’s dead right now necessarily?
@BensonUii @Damo Whether she’s a fan of Nintendo or not, she is definitely a fan of dogs so she isn’t necessarily stepping out of her wheelhouse. I’d say she’s atleast right that a new Nintendogs is welcome.
Btw, i still remember when Nintendo made Nintendogs for NDS, SEGA made Yume Neko for NDS.
Same pet simulation, but with different pet.
Nintendogs came out in an age where mobile gaming was limited to hanheld consoles... Now it might really be a great time to reinvent the IP on Switch while regular pet lovers cuddle their phones... They could get the game on smartphones and do something else on Switch... Just as they reinvent their IP's with new game styles from now and then A side scrolling Nintendogs game where puppies search for touchscreen love? I'd play that on Switch!
@jump she has been many times! including appearing in the original Nintendogs marketing
OK, Nintendo REALLY needs to announce a Direct if we're talking about a Paris Hilton tweet first thing on a Monday morning.
that's visibility right there. they've gotta make one now
Surprisingly... Yeah, I'll go ahead and agree with her.
Although the point about a Nintendogs app not necessarily being a gateway to Nintendo hardware holds. Maybe this could work as Nintendo's first "standalone" app, though.
That is actually a good idea for mobile.
@BensonUii I'm with you in that she seems legit interested in the idea, because why the hell would they randomly ask her to ask such a thing?
And, as said above, by the amount of attention the tweet has, it's definitely exposure!
I'm not okay with I'm about to say, but Paris Hilton is... right.
Even worse: I agree with her.
Not that I want to give Paris credit or anything, but she does make a lot of sense here... Wait, is this one of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse?!
@rjejr
LOL! Amen to that.
another proof that Nintendogs is garbage
@MoonKnight7 Well, as LOL as my post was meant to be, seriously, Nitneod has a 10 month old console out but does it have 1 SINGLE GAME with a release date? Like, seriously? 1? And I'm not counting Lost Sphear, that's eShop, I'm talking big retail title. Yoshi, Kirby, FE. Do any of them have anything other than "2018"? I'm not sure we even have "first half of 2018" on any of them.
PS4 has oft delayed Ni No Kuni 2, Monster Hunter World and DBFZ, and people are taking about God of War and Spiderman almost certainly both in 2018, we're talking about Paris Hilton. That ain't right.
This page is practically blank for 2018 w/ MP4 in 2019.
https://www.nintendolife.com/nintendo-switch/games/browse?status=upcoming&sort=date
Paris could be very right about this. It's certainly a brand that could find its own on smart phones.
Though I'd imagine a lot of what was cute and charming about it on DS to be easily devalued through micro transactions.
It would have to be handled delicately.
As much as I’m not a fan of hers, Nintendogs actually would make a great candidate for smart phone game.
Some really childish and petty comments on here, I’m not a fan of her but I don’t actively hate people I don’t know either, she’s done well for herself and has always been a Nintendo fan. I assume anyone disregarding her opinion for no reason is jealous or still holding onto 1940s opinions on adult films
@ZurapiiYohane They say that she’s a business mogul, who has a huge empire and following overseas.
@rjejr
Oh absolutely. I think a Nintendo direct is on the way this month. They've gotta at least outline when things are coming, besides a "2018" window. I don't think Yoshi and Fire Emblem will be here in the first half of the year. First, we haven't seen anything regarding Fire Emblem, and Yoshi still looked like a work in progress last we saw it. The only one that might make it in the first half of the year is Kirby as that looked a little more fleshed out to me. I am quite certain they will have much more to announce, but it would be nice to know at least a loose schedule.
Wow, everyone has some pretty amazing opinions to express regarding Paris Hilton...fascinating! Cool idea Paris!
I never thought I'd say this, but Paris Hilton has a point. (not that I dislike her or anything, it's just so random!)
What's taking so long, nintendo? It's such a no brainer that nobody thought about it until now.
@outsider83 She, like the Kardashians) and a lot of modern American celebrities is mostly famous for being famous and knowing other famous people. You too could be a "business mogul" if you were handed international fame and a few hundred million dollars courtesy of your business mogul ancestors and famous family name due to its relation to the corporate brand, and offered a legion of smart people to pay tiny bits of that money to in exchange for building your "brand." Sure, she makes a lot of money by selling herself, but she's only saleable because of what family she comes from and their associated wealth like a classic 14th century European aristocrat. If people payed more attention to the success of her, what, great grandparents(?) who did launch a successful business empire instead of the vacuous "heiress" the world would have much better role models. I assume the appeal is because not everyone has the skill to launch a billion dollar business, so the appeal that "even someone more clueless than me could be super successful!" catches people's imaginations.
@rjejr Well, Sony infinitely delays things they announce years ago and is in the heart of the main run of their platform so they have a bit more going on this year. Remember early year 2 on PS4?....yeah... Plus Sony's one of the only companies with the support to have Winter releases they're not trying to bury. Nintendo favors spring/summer due to their handheld sales cycle, and Christmas due to their family friendliness. Technically most of the industry does.
@rjejr
Paris Hilton is going to be our new “Nintendo Karen”
@bluesdance Karen has class. And gamer creds. Paris.....sadly, we'll always have Paris....
@MoonKnight7 At this point, even if it was 1 of those graphics were half of the release dates turned out to be wrong at least we'd have something. It's almost like we have no games to talk about b/c even the games we do know about we haven't seen enough of to talk about. Saying - "we don't want to announce dates until we're sure" - is one thing, but show us a new trailer or something.
I'm almost afraid there was a ND scheduled but Ntinedo will hold it back a week or 2 to punish us for the leak.
As far as what games can come out w/ such short notice, I do have an imaginary schedule in my head that goes something like this:
Jan - nothing b/c it's January, only delayed games release now
Feb - B1 + B2
Mar - another Wii U port, maybe SMM or a new SMM2
April - something big 3rd party
May - another Wii U port, SSB4 or SMM
June - Kirby
July - Pikmin 4
Aug - Yoshi
Sept - Fire Emblem
Oct - some new family game like Ntinedo Land or 1 2 Switch
Nov - Pokemon
Dec - nothing
So it's a long year, and there will be games. Animal Crossing is also possible, maybe that's the October game. And I think they could release a port or 2 w/ little notice. So I'm really not too worried that there will be games, just bothered that so many people got a Switch for Christmas and when they look for upcoming games to get there are none w/ dates. And even the games w/o dates have almost nothing to show.
Nintendo is also going to introduce paid online, so they are going to need a good NEW reason - not Splatoon 2 or ARMS - for people to pay for it. I can think of no better way for them to ruin the SSB4 Deluxe reveal than announce it besides paid online starting the release day.
That could actually be a reason for a hold-up on release dates, Nintnedo wants to release SSB4D w/ paid online, but they don't have paid online ready yet, and if they can't set a date for SSB4D they can't set a date for any of them. 1 of Nintneod's problems of so many games is spacing them out, if 1 moves, they all move. They are probably sitting on 1 or 2 finished or near finished games probably trying to set a calendar like I just did.
It's it's the 11th as rumoured they'll announce it tomorrow, they've been giving 48 hours notice lately, used to be 24 hours but they've been generous w/ the heads up more recently. Until then, Paris Hilton. ugh
@rjejr: You took the text right off of my keypad. More than a few of the articles here lately (particularly the rumors) have been screaming "We need a Nintendo Direct!"
@BensonUii Good research that man!
@rjejr
Not a bad rough draft schedule. It could be close to something like that. Maybe you were just showcasing Nintendo games, but there's also Mega Man, Project Octopath and Fe (but I don't know if that one is a physical game release). We can put one of those in your "big third party game" slot. Also, we've heard about Capcom, and Bandai expressing interest this year, likely ports, but again, hard to discuss it when Nintendo doesn't lead the way.
Given how last year went, I'm not really concerned about a lack of games either, they have taken a more "surprise" approach since they revealed the Switch 6 months before a street date. But yeah, it would be nice for people to know what they have to look forward to this year.
I do think Animal Crossing is waiting in the wings somewhere too. It's too big to ignore after the 3DS and pocket camp success.
Would be huge - brilliant idea.
@Damo but she really is a fan. Don’t go falling into the gamer girl cliches. Rich kid her whole life probably has gold plated ds’s.
@Tyranexx Seriously, we do. We need it, Ntinedo needs it, retailers like Gamestop and Amazon need it. Game developers need it. We all need it.
@MoonKnight7 Yes, I was focusing on Nintendo stuff, Bayonetta was in there since B2 was exclusive on Wii U. It's Nintnedo's console, they should be telling us what games they are making for it in a Direct. Or just put a trailer on Youtube. Or tweet a few pics and a date. Something.
3rd party I know there's Wolfenstien 2, that was supposed to be on there, guess I forgot. I ignore Squenix and their Ocotpath as I'd rather see FFXV Royal edition, FF7 Remastered, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, you know, their big console games. Other 3rd party right now depresses me as Switch could surely run 2D fighter DBFZ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lsa1dCRgGBY
And it's not getting MHW. Then there's RDR2 and Far Cry 5, this year's other big 3rd party games, which it probably isn't getting. We still haven't' heard about Madden though I think it's coming. So yes, there will be 3rd party games this year, but thinking about them I find to be more depressing than uplifting. I wouldn't mind slotting Bayonetta 3 into December though.
@NEStalgia Like me so much you had to CC me twice huh? Or are you just making sure I reply.
"Nintendo favors spring/summer"
And I'm fine w/ that, I know they always try to release a big game every March and May, and August and September, and October and November. But by January we usually at least know which games those are. Even if we don't have dates we have "Spring", "Summer", Q1 or Q2. Not wanting to build hype or get a release date wrong is one thing, but this is a bit too quiet.
I'm like Goldilocks, I dont' want game info 2 or 3 years in advance, though it didn't hurt Zelda any but I dont' like being told just before release either. To me thats' what E3 is for - show A LOT of the game coming out that holiday, show some of the games coming out next winter, spring and summer. But we've seen almost nothing of anything for all of 2018. that's too little. I want 6 months to prepare and get hyped. A Nintendo Direct this week will take care of that, but last week would have been nice. And waiting around for Reggie to go to work in 20 minutes before any big announcements can get made is getting old.
@BensonUii Yes I have criticised the site in the past for a bit of shoddy journalism or a blatant ad disguised as a story but on the whole I find it's a good community and mostly a good site. Definitely send in stories, I doubt they'd hold a grudge and as a journalist myself, content is content. Personally I'd like them to post actual charts from the US and Europe rather than just talk about them! Hint hint.
@rjejr LOL, I'll save my criticism of the reply feature....
Well E3 showed us Yoshi, Kirby for 2018, we know know Bayo 1 & 2. They know they have that "one game a month" cycle they aim toward. Not sure how long they can hold it up. AC for Summer seems smart, like NL. Nintendo doesn't do 6 months of hype except Christmas. Spring/summer games are often dumped on us last minute. I'm sure they'll have a direct soon and hype us, but they still don't often announce it all. Remember when 2DS got dumped like mid Feburary or something through an unannounced direct? I don't think it will be this week. Too soon after Christmas still. Next week is my guess.
@rjejr
"3rd party I know there's Wolfenstien 2"
Ah darn it, I knew I missed a big one, haha. This is exactly why we need a direct, it's too hard to remember these things when we get them in bits and pieces!
Have a new Nintendogs for the Switch that can connect to the Smartphone app, if you want, and just play with your dog or cat. It could also give motivation for people to walk, with the step trackers that smartphones have. Kinda like the Wii Fit tracker or the Pokémon Walker..... Just a thought. But the games where really cute and just a quick play is good, like a tomogotchi
I always thought she seemed cute and nice. It's not her fault she grew up privileged, but I like her. For 1 she is clearly a Nintendo fan, and 2 she used to hang out with Brandy, who I've met and is one of the nicest people.
paris hilton and the word smart in the same topic?
this is a first for me.
and for her
Yes please
she's still alive?
Nintendogs is probably remembered as much as she is, that's why.
It’s pronably not the worst idea she’s ever had...
Umm no just no.. I'm not against Nintendo making a casual game for the fans but I for one wouldn't play it anyway.
Every time someone calls Nintendogs "Nintendo Dogs" I lose a bit of my will to live
even though the dogs are crazy, even though the stars are blind...
I wonder why.
Ninty haven't released it because it's a crap ip
@NEStalgia "Next week is my guess."
Geez, next week, they'll be posting Paul Reuben's tweets from inside dark theaters as articles by then.
Rumour - New Switch game coming, Pee Wee's Big Holiday.
@MoonKnight7 "it's too hard to remember these things"
Yeah, like I'm still waiting for Squenix to remember they said DQXI was releasing on Switch.
@rjejr ROFL!
....actually this is NL....you're probably right......I mean we've sunk to Paris Hilton....why not go lower?
DQXI is coming to Switch? This is big news!
(For some reason the NL software seems to want to post blank replies featuring @ rjejr. And when I delete them, they just come back..... )
@NEStalgia (For some reason the NL software seems to want to post blank replies featuring @ rjejr. And when I delete them, they just come back..... )
That's not scary at all. Sounds like the makings of a Johnny Depp / Roman Polanski movie.
I actually paid to see this in theaters. This trailer doesn't even begin to do it's awful justice.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1ueyfoNTdU
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I am sure you can agree that it would be awesome to have Paris Hilton present the next Nintendo Direct.
I agree with Paris Hilton. Never saw that coming.
If it does happen, make it as full featured as the DS/3DS versions and charge $5 for it and it will make a killing. That price also allows for holiday sales at $3.
The IP has no place on an actual console like the Switch. The second game kind of flopped on the 3DS compared to the DS games, mostly because casuals left the market, so they should migrate it to mobile phones.
Wow. A celebrity actually came up with a good idea.
@smashboy2000
The key is to get people attached to the nintendo universe by getting a my nintendo account and getting information for targeted marketing. They could also include accessories from Nintendo games like a link outfit for your dog, a kirby ball for your sog to chase, ect. I mean they made mitomo which didn't connect to any console game and was a complete waste of time so this idea is certainly better than that.
@Melkac It doesn't help that they simplified several things for the sequel too. So in the end it was a bit less enjoyable as a game.
I generally hate the idea of porting almost anything the the vile pit that are mobile/cell phone games. But for bottom of the barrel shovelware like Nintendogs, that would actually make sense. I mean, you just have a virtual dog that you pet and feed right? For once, that would actually work well on a phone, and they could make it real time, since most people have their phone with them all the time anyway.
@cleveland124 That's quite true ! I didn't thought of that this way.
Nintendogs on mobile would be an awesome idea! The series would fit a whole lot better on a phone than on 3ds tbh. Mic, camera and touch all in one screen.
@Meowpheel I don't think the audience for this game cared much about that honestly.
