As part of the Nintendo World Championships 2017 we were promised a new trailer and details for the upcoming ARMS update to version 3.2; it was delivered.
The trailer below briefly focuses on familiar content, but then moves on to show off 'Badge Stash', which is an achievements-based system to work through and unlock; it then seems you can apply badges to your profile for when you play online.
In addition we get a brief glimpse at what seems to be a new character, seemingly a robotic Spring Man.
The update is coming to ARMS 'later this month' for free. What do you think of it?

This seems like a neat update, but I quit ARMS long ago. Disappointed that this was the only new thing announced at NWC.
Cool, Arms is a fantastic game. I'm glad that they have added a new character, I just would have liked to have seen a completely new character instead of a different version Springman. I'm still happy they are keeping the updates coming though.
Who's that guy ?!
I was kinda hyped for ARMS by the TestPunch, but never ended up getting. Doubt I will at this stage. But, it is good to see Nintendo continuing to support the game after release.
Reusing assets already? damn... don't SF this up...
ARMS isn't the type of game you necessarily want to play every day, but it still remains fun when you do, and unlike most fighting games it is quite simple to get back into your groove after an extended leave.
I wonder how many stamps I'll end up pre-unlocking when the update drops?
The most boring Nintendo AAA first party game ever made ...
So... it's the PinkGoldPeach of Arms? A clone is Nintendo's best idea?
Havn't played this game since Splatoon 2 came out. Need to give it a try again.
Guys, we've been getting evil, Shin, Unlimited, Violent, Nightmare, mecha, Devil, Angel, Final, Alpha, Omega versions of characters (especially protagonists) ever since the inception of fighting games. This. Is. Nothing. New.
And for all we know, "Screw Man" could play nothing like Spring Man despite his visual similarity.
@peeks
Boring what ??
Unusual Boxing games from Nintendo like ARMS is Never Bored me.
Nintendo keeps on updating this game like no other... this is their Overwatch, until Smash Bros comes along.
Fantastic!
hope the badges make it easier to get gold as it looked like you get money for getting them. Also wondering what Reggie was hinting at before the event started.
Welp, guess the rumors of a much wider achievement features for all games are out the window...
Ah well, from the looks of those badges, I'll be getting much longer turns at the "Get ARMS" minigame more often.
If that new iteration of Spring Man is a new character. That would be very disappointing.
I got my fingers crossed that that is a new character, although, a mode where characters would be overpowered would also be interesting if the fighter shown above is Spring Man
This game gets better with age. I feel bad for the people who put it down due to stereotypical millennial short attention spans.
@peeks I could name other ip that's WAY more boring than this:
1.) Mario Party
2.) Hey! Pikmin
3.) Street Fighter V
4.) Mario Sports Superstars
5.) F-Zero(always hated Captain Falcon and them races looked as boring as I don't know what).
6.) Knack & Knack 2( the design is so bland and the visuals are very unattractive).
7.) NBA Live (same nonsense over and over.)
8.) Sonic Boom( I regretted getting this game so much).
9.) The Crew (unoriginal and very buggy so I won't be getting the sequel).
10.) Just Dance (I don't know why Ubisoft still making these games.)
Not to mention that this had 1.18 million sales worldwide at the end of June and I guarantee you those numbers have increased to over 2 million by now.
@Slasher Yeap and now you know why Nintendo hasn't made a new F-Zero console game since F-Zero GX.
Wasn't a huge fan of ARMS but cool the updates keep coming!
I don't think that's a new character. Smash has custom metal matches, and I'm thinking that this could be something similar. At least, that's what I'm hoping for. A "metal" Spring Man would be a major drop from the creativity they showed with Lola Pop.
@MonkiPlays
Yes you should, lol. It’s awesome.
I guess ARMS is "ruined" now that they added achievements
(If any can't tell I'm being sarcastic )
Ooh, I need to get back to Arms. I really loved this game. Splatoon 2 swung my attention but, I'm gonna play some Arms tomorrow I think. This is one of Nintendo's best new IP since Pikmin. Right up there with Splatoon and Xenoblade. Well, maybe not quite that high, but within swinging distance.
@peeks you clearly don't remember AC: amiibo festival
@Slasher @retro_player_22 you guys did not just say F-Zero is boring.... what the hell is wrong with you guys?
FZero is amazing and some fans are eagerly waiting for another entry in the franchise ... GX was one of the best futuristic racing titles ever
Dat zoom-in, lol.
...This was the surprise?...An ARMS update?...Not a new game? Or Switch VC? Or something that's, you know...EXCITING?! :/
@BensonUii Hi Mummy, this is Mechanica speaking, over
@meleebrawler I am forced to play it every day. My four year old son needs it before going to bed.
I like achievements; extra prizes and learning more moves along the way. At the pace Nintendo is releasing these updates, I think they had a lot of this ready before initial release. What I don't get is the numbering. 3.2 and a new character?
@peeks I could not disagree more, esp. with games like NSMB around. Doing essentially the same design-shtick for 30+ years ... talk about the very definition of boredom.
Anyways, I very much like ARMS, in fact, it was the reason I decided to go for a Switch in the first place. Zelda is great, but I could have just played that on the WiiU. I think that is actually a substantial achievement for Nintendo, because I am one of those individuals who more-or-less hates fighting games. The only exceptions probably being ... like Bushido Blade, Power Stone and Virtual-On.
ARMS is a well designed, easy-to-learn-hard-to-master game, that can really open up a genre to people, who would otherwise not even considered getting into it. It's also a master-class in character-design - excellent use of basic shapes (triangle, square and circle) and silhouettes (not quite Overwatch-level good imho, but still excellent). Also, Min Min, the Ramen Bomber, is just awesome all-around It's an epic tragedy that there are no amiibo for this game. If there was a Nintendo game in recent memory, that absolutely needed amiibo, it was this one.
My only gripe with the game is that it feels bare bones in terms of features and not every aspect feels entirely thought out. The game was clearly rushed in that regard. There is no "campaign" to speak of, just a tournament, the fighters have virtually no in-game back-story, which is a shame, and while the party mode is the most visually pleasing and neat form of "Online", Nintendo has done in its entire history, it was disappointing to see that playing e.g. in 2-player mode, leads to a fair amount of time being spend in "spectator mode", which makes no sense to me.
All in all, it's the opposite of boring to me.
@peeks have you ever played or just trolling? The game is fun as hell, specially when you play local multiplayer.
@Danpal65 same here, except that I bought the game last week on a online sale. Was 15€ cheaper and I could not let this tiny cartridge out of the collection.
@BensonUii Yep, that's me. Will add you when I get online
@Slasher except for the first two, you are 100% correct, but Mario Party become very funny when you have many friends to play and Pikmin is useful to calm you down from the daily stress.
@fafonio is there an Assassin's Creed with amiibo?
Edit: never mind...
@Joeynator3000 they would not announce such big thing at the end of a non related event. That is something for E3, TAGS or a NDirect.
This game was a 50 pounds game I regret and the only retail switch game I regret. I put in over 20 hours but there a way better games to play on the switch
I don't think this will be a new character, since for previous character updates the version went up to 2.0 and 3.0. Since this is still 3.2, it is probably a new mode.
Picked it up again, this game makes me happy.
Three years from now we'll be longing for it all over.
@Angelic_Lapras_King Not necessarily, there's games on achievement/trophy platforms that use this approach as well. All it means is that the ARMS team wanted achievements in a meaningful way.
Nice update, achievements are fun to unlock.
That theme song baby!
It's good to see them taking their time and adding meaningful additions to the game, by the time I have a switch this game should have tons of content!
The "evil" spring man doesn't seem too interesting, after seeing Lola Pop I was expecting the rest of the characters to be new. If they do what Persona 4 Arena Ultimax did and just add shadow versions of all characters to boost the roster I won't be impressed...
I'm well up for an achievements system
@thesilverbrick
Amen to that
Cool. An evil spring man.
I realy enjoy playing arms but only realy play it now when im over someones house or there over mine (or someone ik online wants to play)
Side not who dose everyone like playing as? For me its healex/DNA Man
Most fighting games use reskins, but I was a bit deflated to see that’s probably what’s happening here. Especially as so much has been made about getting new characters.
THAT music.
Coil Bot!
Am I the only one who doesn't think this is a new character?? It looks like some additional boss or something to me...
People upset that it is not a new character...... Didn't we get one like a few weeks ago? Yea new characters are awesome, but dang we can't get one every single month, that would be exhausting and burn out really fast.
And it's 3.2 (not a 4 version update) so we are getting a new stage and what looks like new skins? New mode?
This game is great, it's really fun to play, and it is the one fighting game I like to play online because it is actually fun. No dumb codes to remember to win, and everyone you play doesn't cream you in 2 seconds because they become experts at this. If you learn the basics, you know half the battle. Now you just have to fight and see how the enemies play style is and try to counter it. It's an easy fighting game to pick up and get into it, especially for those, like me, who suck otherwise with this genre.
And for the story, the only reason why overwatch characters have somewhat of a backstory, is because of the animated movies they release, but other than that we wouldn't know anything about them. The first priority for these type of games is design, and Arms does a great job at it. I wish there was more story, for both games, but I guess we just have to wait.
I really want to like this game. I love the art style but I always choose to play Splatoon or Overwatch instead.
I really enjoy Arms. I am loving the continued support. The quick matches are great!
@Joeynator3000 Yeah what a crappy reveal. I would have took Balloon Fight on VC over this.
@thesilverbrick I completely agree with you. IMO Arms is THE most underrated game on the Switch. I admit I don't play it as much as I should ( there are just too many good games to play ) but I've been able to put in 75 hours plus and when I do play it's for a day or two straight cause I just get sucked in. Like a lot of other people have said I think Splatoon 2 really killed some of the momentum that Arms was starting to recieve from players. I think they need to release more content or updates more frequently than they do to keep this game in gamers heads that it still exists. One new character in almost 4 months ( i don't count Max Brass since he and his stage were in the game since day 1 and was just unlocked to play ) compared to Splatoon 2 weekly weapon updates and new stages is another reason I feel this game is getttin lost in the shuffle. Sorry for the ramble but I feel that I have to defend this game as much as I can since not a lot of other people seem to care or have gotten bored with the game. I really love Arms and want this game to be a huge success, at least the comic announced for next year shows that the game will be supported hopefully till then and a sequel will follow soon thereafter. This is a call to ARMS people let's step up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Manevolent Spring Man
Come on Nintendo add voice chat to friend matches!
Thanks Nintendo for zooming in on Twintelle's ass
My revisit of Super Punchout makes me think I should revisit Arms again I did enjoy it whenI was playing it. I'll update this morning and play it at lunch. I prefer buttons over throwing my real arms around though....
I saw so many things that are new to me, I definitely got to get back into ARMS soon!
@DickeyWord I completely agree with you. ARMS is a fine and well-rounded game in its own right and worth playing a lot but the release of Splatoon 2 totally killed its momentum.
Maybe they should've released ARMS later instead, when everyone already got to scratch their Splatoon 2 itch for a few months.
It would be good if they updated with new skins. Some to use for the i game currency once you have got all the gloves. I wouldnt mind a similar model to overwatch.
How are the controls using the pro controller ?
Personally, I don’t need new characters, arenas or modes, just better motivation to play what’s in the current game. As much as I like this game overall, I dislike how much you have to grind for arms, and online isn’t as addictive as Splatoon is. Hopefully this achievement system tips the scales for me.
I think little updates like this are actually the way ARMS should be proceeding. You don't want a new character every month for a multiplayer game, that just makes it harder for people to drop in and play, and harder to ensure that the game stays balanced. Splatoon 2 has actually gone overboard in my opinion with the constant updates. Every week you've got a new weapon, every few weeks a new stage. It's fun, but unnecessary in my opinion, and it makes it kind of hard to keep up.
ARMS is a great game, and I doubt that Lola Pop is the last new character they have planned for it. Just because this character (if it even is a new character, and not just a special event or new mode) is a "remix" of Spring Man doesn't mean they're done producing all-new characters. They're just pacing themselves, in my opinion. And that's a good thing.
Hmm. Can't wait to see how he plays...although I don't think anything will make me put down Min Min and Twintelle.
Maybe Dark Springman or Coilman?
Metal Sonic was not what the game needed.
@peeks
The game is fun for me and my family. A lot of us still playing it.
Evil Ryu
I hope rather than a new character you can unlock costumes. I don’t see any reason to make clone characters in a game like this.
