Having previously announced its existence in the big Switch unveiling out of Japan at the start of the year, today's Nindie Showcase brought us a first look at Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, which will be a Switch exclusive in 2018.
The premise is that Bat Girl's father tries to kill Travis Touchdown, but they get absorbed into a game console. They have to battle through six games (with Indie collaborators pitching in) to survive the battle.
Though it's a cinematic trailer it's awesome to see this confirmed fully, and it's a coup for Nintendo to have exclusivity.
Are you excited about this one?

If anybody still thinks indie games don't count as 3rd party support...
Definitely looking forward to it, never played No More Heroes but I've heard good things.
So where do I enter in my credit card info for the download? I can not WAIT for this game.
Edit: What is Bad Girl's Dad's name? Soda Pop (cuz of the belt...)?
All hail Suda 51
Also, hope Marvelous and Ubisoft collaborated to make a No More Heroes collection
Bat girl? I thought it was Bad Girl. Though she did hold a bat and was one of most ruthless bosses in the first game.
Heh, glad they're holding continuity like in the second game.
Cannot wait to see what comes of it.
Sure, I'm game. NMH2 had some decent mini-games, and I liked those Level-5 collections that we got piecemeal.
This was an awesome surprise. I'm hyped.
The premise sounds like it's NMH gameplay but the levels/worlds are based on 6 different indie games, one of which is Hotline Miami. So basically Kingdom Hearts with No More Heroes gameplay!
Wow was not expecting this to be honest when they announced the final game.Still if they consider this as an indie title then keep them coming.
Love the art direction. It doesn't need to be hyper realistic looking to look great!
I feel like I'm out of the loop on this one. Don't understand the hype. The art style is ugly, and I really didn't like the only other game I played from this dev ("Let it Die;" blegh).
Pretty much a perfect trailer, far as gameplay-less trailers go. Can't wait!
F yeah that this is going to be good. I can't wait.
Best news ever for the Switch!!!!!
This is more like it, games like this might persuade me to buy a switch, maybe. Have to wait to see what other games arrive. If it ain't like the 2nd one, a follow up, then it would be a no from me, many new games today but all pointless for my tastes apart from this, do hope this isn't a spinoff mini collection or a watered down version of main games
I am BEYOND HYPED for this game! No More Heroes 1 and 2 are seriously underrated. I'm so excited for this sequel, especially after 7 years of waiting!
Then it's not an indie game.
@PanurgeJr Besides that are we ignoring the fact it's an exclusive?
@Ralizah Suda and grasshopper is sorta a divisive dev. It is really either you love his games or they are meh and poorly organized to you. I'm in the love camp (partly because of the ridiculous violence...same reason that I got into danganronpa as well) but I can see why some folks are meh about it.
I bought 1 and 2. They were okay games. I can't say I'm super excited for this...well not even excited.
I've been waiting for this for almost 7 years now.
It looks pretty great, i'm glad they are trying something different and weird again with the franchise - i love NMH2, but it definitely was a pretty safe sequel.
I wonder if the part where Travis plays Hotline Miami means that Hotline Miami 1&2 will come to the Switch. Maybe they will even be included in NMH3?
@Ralizah Look up No More Heroes boss fights... Like Destroyman, Bad Girl, or Speed Buster for a feel of the style. Or Holly Summers, Letz Shake, or Harvey Moiseiwitsch Volodarskii for the spirit. Or Shinobu and Henry for intensity.
All from the first game, not to downplay the greatness of Desperate Struggle's bosses.
Day 1 buy
I certainly wasn't expecting to see this today. I'm getting it though I have to finish No More Heroes and buy NMH2 first. I discovered No More Heroes years ago but never saw it in stores so I didn't buy it until a year ago. I was planning to finish it before BotW was released but I wasn't quite fast enough so it's still waiting for me.
This is BIG.
Am super hyped for this title! Love no more heroes 1 & 2
BRING IT ON!
This is awesome! Suda51 is a hero
It's great that it coming but c'mon is it so hard to just call it No More Heroes 3: Travis Strikes Again? Calling it the way it is sounds more like it's a spinoff.
@PanurgeJr this isn't an indie game.
@Ryu_Niiyama Ah, so the creator is a polarizing iconoclast with his own unique style, huh? I can dig it. I think I'll take up @ACK on his suggestion and see if NMH tickles my fancy!
I want NMH 1/2 HD for Switch. Make it happen Nintendo.
OMFG!!
Nice. Wasn't expecting to see this!
Really hoping the graphical style stays like that and doesn't become 2D sprites in the worlds based on indie games. I don't mind 2D art but I feel like it's overkill at this point
EDIT: Exception would be for the minigames - would be cool if they were developed by different indie studios. Just don't want the whole game to look like that
Never played the previous titles but always wanted to. This one looks great. Loved that 'Stranger Things' 1980s sort of logo reveal.
This isn't a proper No More Heroes game though, is it? I'm not expecting to see any of the 3D hack'n'slash gameplay from the first 2 games
Interested.
@faint Nintendo of America says it's an indie, so I'll go with them. You might be thinking "indie" is the same as "low-budget". That's a common misconception, much like "indie isn't third-party".
@PanurgeJr Nintendo showed it as a surprise at the end of an indie show case. They did not call it indie. Grasshopper has 35 employees and developed killer 7, fatal frame 4, ect. Calling them indie is like calling platinum games indie.
@Captain_Toad
It is Bad Girl.
@PanurgeJr tell me it's still indie when you see the 60 dollar price tag
Probably the biggest surprise of the day!
What do you think indie means, you goof? It means an independent developer which GHM has historically been, though with being owned by Gung Ho now makes that's debatable. Also it's Bad Girl.
Awesome trailer.. will live up to it's potential? I hope so!!!
@faint OK, I will. Being indie also has nothing to do with the price tag, either.
I'm think I'm about to pass out due the redirection of my entire bloodflow to my nether regions after seeing this.
Looks cool. Sound mix was terrible. I had to strain to hear the voices.
I am sick as a dog with a nasal infection, stuck at work in stinkin' Southeast Georgia. This made my whole day BETTER! Thanks NintendoLife for helping me get theough the day. Now i gotta go back and play the first two all over again!
@PanurgeJr lol production value and staff size does. These effect price tags. Listen I love indie games but this is not one. I have been playing grasshopper games since the game cube/ps2.
@gutsack independent of what exactly? Is capcom indie? They don't have a parent company.
@faint "60 dollar pricetag"
In fairness No Mans Sky was indie and got that. Same with whatever game Gearbox recently picked up for publishing.
Though Grasshopper Manufacture is definitely NOT an indie studio. They are quite high profile and much sought after like Platinum.
I am hoping this is a full production game however. And not some 16bit thing. Cutscene trailer has me HYPED.
Super excited this this game, whatever it is. Love the No More Heroes games and it's style!
Yes!!! No More Heroes is one of my all time favorite games!
@XenoShaun the difference is Sony. They funded the entire thing. Those guys were also new out of the gate. Grasshopper runs themselves a lot like platinum games. Look into their history. They will also tell you they are not indie.
@faint Oh yeah I know. I agree with that. I've been following them since the naughties (is that still a term? Ha).
Yessssssss!
Hmm, not quite what I was expecting when they announced a new No More Heroes, but I suppose we should just be thankful it exists in any form. Look forward to seeing more.
They'd better have the proper installment on the Switch, if and when it's ever made, because I'd hate for this to be our consolation prize, while the PS4/XBONE/Steam/PSVita(!) gets NHM3.
Looks like it will be interesting though.
I've heard good things about No More Heroes, and this trailer alone is pretty awesome. I'm definitely intrigued by this one!
Oh HECK YES
Not sure how Suda 51 is considered an indie company, but this still looks like fun. Love NMH!
@xPH03N1Xx86
You should definitely track down the other games.
No More Heroes 1 was great but No More Heroes 2 was disappointing. I hope they learn from their mistakes.
Never played NMH, but the Hotline Miami stuff got my attention for sure!
Cool, I hope they make a port of the first one available, I never actually played it and don't wanna dig out my Wii from god knows where just to play it...
Dude No More Heroes was fantastic! Can't find the second one anywhere, but I'm beyond excited for this new entry!
@faint Capcom is a publisher as well. GHM and Platinum are not.
Ok, I am hyped. However, what are people expecting from this? Travis gets sent in to 6 indie games. Does this mean we get a nice cinematic cutscene in between 6 8-bit retro mini games / bosses, or is it realistic to expect him getting transported in to a 3D realised retro world with No More Heroes gameplay? I am inclined to hope for the latter, but I have already read (elsewhere) so many people thinking well inside the box so to speak.
@faint We'll see I have a suspicion that this will be a mini game fest based on this: "Titled No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again, the game is a collaboration with other notable indie developers. Taking place seven years after the original No More Heroes, Travis Strikes Again sees the protagonist inhaled by a "phantom game console." He must beat all six of its games and their bosses in order to escape. You can watch the reveal trailer above."
I had the original NMH for the Wii, which was an alright game, glad to see the fans of the series are getting a new entry. Who knows, maybe this will be the one for me!
Anything Travis. Thank you Suda51
It was very refreshing to listen again to NMH theme
@idrawrobots The official PR for the game confirms that is has the same gameplay as the original. It's not a minigame compilation
I never played NMH, but I remember reading on another site how insanely fun it was. Now I have a chance to actually try on my Switch. I love the visuals, I hope it looks similar. Most indies go for a less gorgeous approach.
The king has returned! Nintendo's most epic mic drop at the Nindies Showcase Summer 2017! Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes is a Switch exclusive. Let's hope that a third party publisher releases the physical version in 2018! For now, it's a definite must in the eShop library!
I really hope Grasshopper will also consider to port some of their other games to the Switch.
I know Capcom won't allow Killer7, but i'm pretty confident Kadokawa might allow them to port Killer Is Dead, and i think Black Knight Sword and Let It Die could be possible and The Silver Case would be no problem.
I haven't played the first two because we ended up getting the butchered, heavily censored Western version of the first game (the uncensored version may have been released on PS3 at some point though).
I'll pick this up if they issue a physical release.
@Ralizah I like the art style. Kinda has a mad max/fist of the North Star look.
CAN WE ALSO GET NMH HD 1 AND 2 AS WELL?
I've never played any of the No More Heroes games but this looks really cool.
Well as long as it's like No More Heroes 2 on the Wii and not like Lollipop Chainsaw on the Xbox 360/PS3, then I'm hyped!
Since the Motion Control in Arms work really well, they should be able to make this game even better!
@idrawrobots it's still under suda 51's umbrella and grasshopper. If you added shovel knight characters to Mario Maker it would not be an indie title
M-rated exclusive for Switch by Grasshopper, Suda51 at the helm.
All Nintendo has to do is to market the hell out of it.
Rival consoles, your move.
They have to battle through six games (with Indie collaborators pitching in) to survive the battle.
I'm happy to get mini-games, but it isn't an official numbered entry into NMH so consider me less excited.
Will this be exclusive? Or timed or others get it later down the line???
Day 1 purchase!
I have been waiting for this game for a while. I remember seeing an interview with suda saying no more heroes 3 was being made but that was during Wii U time. And when that system went sideways I forgot until January when suda said they were making something for the system. Nice to know this is kind of 3 but I suppose the gameplay will tell us the rest. I hope it is a no more heroes set in the six indie worlds with no more hero gameplay and graphics. But it could be like no more heroes 2 many games. They are using unreal engine so maybe it is the former. Whatever the case this is on my radar when I get my switch.
@sillygostly Assuming you're in Europe? US got all the glorious bloodshed.
Day freaking one for me. I love the first two games. Hope they decide to release a physical copy of the game in some kind of collection to celebrate the 10th anniversary. I can't believe it's been that long. Still remember playing the first NMH like it was yesterday. Imo, 2008 was a bad year for the Wii but NMH was certainly a highlight. In fact if I had a Game of the Year vote, it would've gone to that. Been too long but I'm glad NMH is back.
Interesting trailer without telling us much? Cautious optimism here.
This was such awesome news! It's my new most hyped Switch game, Travis is BACK!
I'm hoping for a updated version of NMH1 and 2 as well.
I wan't this game (as well as the first two in this series)!
Now that that's outta my system, I've been watching the trailer a bunch of times today and I just noticed something. At about 1:30 in the trailer just after Traves gets beaten by the dude with the baseball bat, Travis looks at him and says something. All day long, I was thinking to myself "Why is Travis saying 'Nice work BABYMETEL' to a guy that's hitting him with a baseball bat?" Then it hit me. He's not saying "Nice work BABYMETAL". He's saying "Nice work Mickey Mantel." lol
I was up late last night and I am too dang tired.
@gutsack : Ah, yes. That's right. Australia ended up getting the censored version, unfortunately. The second game was uncensored, however it was a soft/import only release in Australia (we basically got the European copy with our rating pasted over the PEGI rating as opposed to a locally printed release).
Lol: Finally a proper third-party game! Oh, its just another indie collaboration. I bet its download-only too. Flush! There it goes down the drain...
I really think this should be a coop game where Travis teams up with the protagonists of the games the stages are based on.
Honestly, i think NMH 2 and Bayonetta 2 should have also been coop games (with Henry and Jeanne).
All the 16 bit beat'em ups and Musou hack'n slash games have coop, it would definitely also work for something like NMH/Bayo/DMC.
Wonderfully kitsch and over the top. Just like they used to make them.
Not sold on the liquid-metal look of the characters but I'm interested in seeing how this one develops.
I ******* love No More Heroes
THE HYPE IS HERE!
@edhe this is the actual product. It's No More Heroes 3
I heard some rumors on gamefaqs (lol) that there might be something NMH related at the Nindies@Night event.
I strongly doubt it, but maybe there'll be more info or even some actual gameplay.
@ThomasBW84 The name is Bad Girl, not Bat Girl.
Maybe I sounded a little bit harsh, the game could still be great fun. But it doesn't sound like the high budget No more heroes 3 that many hoped for. Ah well, we see how it turns out.
Switch is going to get a few third-party exclusive games but it doesn't mean that they're going to be that good. They will be hyped, though. On the one hand the game has not been released and might be good. On the other hand it could be just the overhyped exclusive game that doesn't live up to gamers' expectations but is used in every Switch's game list. I don't trust much the developer, but let's see...
@Uzukage
I was worried at first. It sounded like they were going to be throwaway indie games at first.
This trailer sold me on the Switch. Ever since No more heroes, I felt that i found my ideal type of game.
Trailer came out, wife and i went to target for cat food. Talked about how excited i was for the new no more heroes and as we walked by the electrical dept. There were switches.... =)
