No 60 fps?

@Yasaal Same for me! 30 fps Its the minimum. Looks like a good game.

It should never have been released in this state. Dips here or there OK, but 20fps is unacceptable really.

Please, Physical release for Switch version !
So I can neglect my PS4 physical version.

Yeah...still haven't noticed any issues with the game at all. But then again...I'm one of those weird ones that plays games to, you know, just have fun instead of worry about things like resolution or a frame dropping here and there.

...and with that...bring on the argumentative comments...I'm ready.

I haven't noticed any low FPS at all, but I just play it with my friends so it doesn't really matter at I don't care at that point.

I also haven't noticed any problems with the frame rate after playing it a fair amount. It's so much fun in multiplayer!

@invictus4000 It really depends on the game don't you think? Breath of the Wild has some framedrops here and there and that's not a very big issue for people 'like us' that don't NEED 60fps to call it a nice experience.

On the other hand, fast games with high precision needed actually suffer on gameplay level. Example: imagine playing Hotline Miami or OlliOlli with dips to 15-20fps. That makes a fast game pretty slow.

There's absolutely no fun rate drops with this game, and I didn't buy it for frames.

I hope the developers can bring this game up to speed with other versions available and running at a solid 30fps. I noticed it was available on PS4 for cheaper but I'm holding out for the Switch version.

Although I have only played with xbox controllers on PC, this game was great fun in short bursts with friends. A good match for Switch. Singleplayer is pretty much pointless though.

@Tibob That's fair but other people do care about quality in products they buy, and that's fair too. A game as simple as this running badly on a system than can easily handle it is not ok, regardless of your opinion.

Question to those that played this. This game got much meat to it for a solo player? I have no one to play games with locally but the games premise looks interesting.

Even though release was dodgey glad to see devs seeing the platform is worth post release support.

I don't think it's any fun played solo : There's always two cooks involved so either there's two players controlling them, or you're alone and have to toggle between them, which is not very intuitive.

"Quality" is a very subjective notion, as it is a matter of expectations. I was expecting fun and it was met. Didn't notice any framerate issue through the laughters of my friends and I. Clearly this is not the kind of game that requires 60fps, but I'm sure that it's okay for people to demand anything and everything.

@Tibob Nobody has suggested it should be 60fps though. It's 30fps on PS4 and Xbox One which is easily and comfortably doable on the Switch with such an incredibly simple game, but it runs at about 20 due to a developer error which they have acknowledged shouldn't be the case. If it ran smoothly at 20 that would be less of a problem but it's up and down which makes the game not play smoothly which can and does affect gameplay. It may not bother you and that's great but doesn't make it a non issue by a long shot.

Sorry if I misunderstood this part but it looks like by "but I'm sure that it's okay for people to demand anything and everything." you're saying people are asking too much for asking for the game to run decently?

I meant that it's amazing to me how framerate has become an obsession for many people. Used to be the least of our concerns, but nowadays it seems like everyone has bionic eyes.
I get your point about other versions, though : they could have done a better job and I'm hoping they will fix it too. (Yet I'm more concerned with the "pause" menu being controlled collectively, or by the icons and text being rather small to my taste...)

Even with the framerate issues, this is one of the best co-op experiences I've ever had, and honestly it's entirely playable, even before the patch. Frankly, I wouldn't have known it was running at 20 FPS if nobody told me. It's funny to me that the only people complaining about the framerate in this thread are people who don't own and haven't played the game. When did we become so tech obsessed that we refuse an undeniably fun experience if it doesn't run buttery smooth? Also, calling something less than 30 FPS "unacceptable" is hilarious when every major motion picture is shot at 24 FPS. Just saying.

@Tibob That's fair enough, sorry if I came across a bit dismissive. But there is a difference between having just a lower frame rate but still stable (30fps vs 60fps) which is only noticeable for graphics nerds, and an unstable frame rate (30fps during quiet moments, 21fps during action for example. The first example is a minor nitpick and probably is argued about too much I agree, but the second example can be utterly gameplay ruining.

I played this on my brothers Switch this weekend, and I've beat the entirety of the game on the PS4, and saw absolutely no issues. What point in the game are these supposed to occur?

@XenoShaun I've played this a lot with friends and had a lot of fun in the past but since buying it on the Switch recently, so far I've only played it single player. Overcooked I actually have found to not be terrible as a single player game. I don't know if it's worth the full price if you'll never play with others because it's definitely not THAT fun when you're alone but I once I worked out you can leave someone to cut things and switch to the other character, I liked the feeling of multitasking.

@chriiiiiiiiiis That sounds quite interesting. The only person I can play with is my elder brother but I see him maybe a few weeks a year. We would normally play some first party Nintendo game instead.

I will keep an eye out for it on sale!

Cinema/film is actually 24fps. So to say "cinematic 30fps" doesn't make sense. Just so you know for the future. Cheers

@electrolite77 Framerate and a game's response time from a player's inputs are completely unconnected. A game can respond to inputs virtually instantaneously and display them correctly at any reasonable framerate. This is especially true in a game like Overcooked, which does not require split-second response times or lightning reflexes.

Without wishing to get into a stupid debate here (I've already smashed the Ignore button on a few folks in this thread to avoid that), what I will say is that for anyone not noticing the framerate issues with Overcooked (or any game): it doesn't make you somehow superior to those it serves as a distraction to. We play games with inputs and our eyes, and both of those are affected by a game running poorly. If you don't notice? Great. Enjoy! But don't pretend that it makes you somehow better than everyone else, or that they're just being whiny; you just don't see/notice what they do.

The dip in frame rate can lead to it not always registering correctly or on time when the A button is pushed to pick up something or put down something, which is pretty critical. It leads to you pushing the A button again sometimes and messing it up.

@getyourak It's a meme to call 30 FPS cinematic. Pretty sure an Ubisoft dev or something said that 30 FPS was a design choice because it was "more cinematic", when in truth it felt like they just didn't feel like optimizing their game to 60 FPS.

@MailOrderNinja They mostly occurred in the opening sequence for me. But there's some drops here and there in normal play. I played the Switch version that my brother picked up, then the next day I played my own Steam copy and the difference was night and day. Not only did the game look smoother, but it felt more responsive as well. The Switch version is perfectly playable, but the people who are okay with an inferior product on a platform that should easily be able to handle a fairly simple game need to stop bashing those of us who are displeased with the Switch's version. (Not saying you were one of the people doing the bashing.)

@DragonbornRito I was going to say, certainly not bashing. I'm just saying while I was playing I saw nothing impacting gameplay like the frame rate drops mentioned. I only played the first chapter with him though.

I haven't notice it much when I play. I guess it's because it haven't hinder my inputs and attention as much as I thought compared to other games. Perhaps when the patch comes out, I can spot the changes easier.

The only small issue I have is the run or none movement for the characters. It's playable but it does make grabbing/dropping ingredients and careful movements on certain stages tricky at times.

@electrolite77 I definitely agree that in a game like F-Zero or Smash Bros. framerate should be given priority, even over resolution. In those particular examples, every fraction of a second counts in terms of the player's ability to react to what's going on. Being given as many frames per second as the human eye is capable of discerning (framerates higher than 60 are difficult to distinguish) can make or break a fight or race. However, in Overcooked, though frenetic and fast paced, players are focused on time management and proirotization, not split-second reactions. In such an experience 30 FPS or even 20 doesn't make or break gameplay. I always prefer a higher framerate, and I'm looking forward to the developers ironing that out, but I was just pointing out that the majority of people complaining and calling the framerate "unacceptable" haven't even tried it. They'd find that in practice it works perfectly.

I also don't understand what you mean regarding the speed of life. That's irrelevant. The maximum movement speed of any object in a 24 fps movie is 24 fps. It's the same as a 30 fps or 60 fps game. There is no difference in that regard.

@MarioPhD Where is this superiority mindset coming from? They're simply saying they don't care enough to notice any dips in frame rates. It's no different than saying I don't really care enough about specs to build a computer rather than it being pre made.

@MarioPhD More important, in games, is the need for reflexive interactivity, and those faster frame rates let players see more detailed movement in order to know when to act. In addition players can feel the responsiveness faster after they use a control method. In general, gaming has more to gain from increased fluidity of movement as you are predicting paths of movement and timing in order to interact.

A lot of what you proposed is factually inaccurate. Video games update their state, calculate physics, discover collisions, read input, read network events, and invoke events at a rate that is not usually married to the rate at which frames are rendered to the screen. In the past, many games had a main loop that was tightly coupled with the display of graphics, but it's not the case in most games anymore. Not seeing the fluid movement and calculations happening in the game can still effect the feeling of interactivity, as I mentioned above, but if you're suggesting that the internal game state can only update at the rate of displaying graphics, you are mistaken.

I don't know much about this game, but I'm surprised it's not 60fps on PS4 and XB1 looking at the screenshots. It's hardly the most graphically advanced game? I would have expected even the Switch to be able handle 60fps on a game like this. Bad times.

I'm sure 30fps is fine for a game like this, but 60fps is always going to be better. On a side note, I'm playing a lot of Gamecube games at the moment. It's amazing how many of the first person games seemed to be 60fps. I suppose it was a time before the horsepower went into resolution instead.

@invictus4000 lol. I think it's the whole 'mind' concept. Gamers these days can count individual frames per second during gameplay.

I've always found large sandbox/exploration/games targeting realism really suit 30FPS, arcade games though in this day and age should really be 60FPS, afterall they aren't really dealing with complex physics or complex computational tasks!

The very low frame rate in this makes the controls extremely laggy. Try playing it on a PS4, is so much more responsive.

20fps is pretty much as good as it gets unfortunately. It drops to as low as 10fps at times. No game should be released in such a miserable state, especially for a game which such incredibly basic visuals.

The fault certainly lies with Unity, which performs badly on pretty much everything, especially low powered hardware.
