Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will perhaps go down as one of the biggest turnarounds in gaming history, and the game is now available on store shelves. After an initial reveal due to some massive leaks, fan and media reaction was tepid to say the least, but since then, the game has become very well received. And now, a launch day patch has gone out for the game which adds in and tweaks a fairly large amount of content.
The patch generally makes the game more stable (heh) and also adds in new graphical tweaks, additional language support, and tweaks to some game mechanics. Here’s the full patch notes:
OVERALL – Overall Game stability, audio, UI, and localization have been improved.
GAMEPLAY – The Skill Tree reset is now free. – Tactical Camera is now displaying Deployable Info Card like it does for heroes, enemies, etc. – The Bosses’ AI has been improved. – Some collision issues in exploration phase have been fixed. – Minor gameplay glitches have been fixed.
SYSTEMS – You can now select supported languages when you launch the game for the first time. – You can now select the story mode and the supported languages via the Main Menu. – You can now view the available Additional Contents (AOC) in the Main Menu. – Russian, Traditional and Simplified Chinese have been added in the supported languages.
GRAPHICS – 2D weapons icons have been updated to fit with 3D models aspects. – Level of Details has been improved in exploration phase. – At the end of the combat, the reward board is now in 3D and feedbacks have been improved. – Technics preview has been improved during battles.
CINEMATICS – One scene has been added after completing the main adventure. – One scene has been added when the player has reached a 100% completion save and returned to Peach Castle.

Can't afford it but it's okay because I just got Uncharted 4 and a PS4 a few days ago
Love it so far. Beautiful and addicting
i'll plan on getting this someday. looking forward to odyssey more then this.
Am I missing something? Where does it say anything about adding in content?
I still think the arm cannons are weird. It seems to me that they could have used fire flowers and such for projectiles instead.
For me the game wouldn't even play without the update. It'd boot up and display the whole seizure warning screen, but never get to the Ubisoft logo that's supposed to be after that. Had to wait until I got home and could download the patch.
Played it a while and really like it. Brilliant game and lots of fun:)
The need of a Day 1 update actually disuades me from buying it anytime soon as it puts long term conservation of the game into question; which becomes more of an issue over games with multiple licensees / properties.
Hopefully later production runs include the update on card.
Also makes me wonder if this was done to allow usage of smaller, cheaper cartridges? Nah, its just typical of most big publishers these days.
Picked it up a few hours ago, downloading now
For those who got it digitally the update was included in the download, right? At least I know I got the language selection at the launch screen. The only issues I have noticed is that the game occasionally freezes for a quite short period (2-3 seconds) in docked mode. In handheld I haven't experienced any of that, but taking the game from docked mode to handheld made the fan turn up to max capacity for a short while...
@2CATteam 'CINEMATICS – One scene has been added after completing the main adventure. – One scene has been added when the player has reached a 100% completion save and returned to Peach Castle.'
Day 1 updates...worse then day 1 dlc. Since the update is forced on you and takes up precious memory-space. The dlc is optional.
Played for an hour last night. Noticed about 3 audio glitches, they were quite jarring actually, otherwise it's very enjoyable, so far.
Great game I've had it since last Tuesday it's a lot of fun although making me want xcom on Switch now!
Played for a few hours yesterday and it's run pretty flawlessly so far, only a few minor stutters when waking up from sleep mode.
As for the game it is a bit of a stunner on Switch with some fantastic animations. Gameplay is top notch with much more tactical depth then you'd imagine and this along with Sonic Mania are the best games on Switch so far for me
Only played an hour or so but from what I saw I'd say it could be the best third party title on the system.
Fun game, not had any issues so far.
Literally every modern game has day one updates. If it betters the experience then it's a good thing. It's a shame it needs it but there it is. That's the advantages with today's technology.
Not had time to play it much yet, but I have found one slight glitch... in adventure mode I found a corner of the map where walking there would cause the cloud shadows to more around erratically.
@dystome That's basically a participation award at this point. Second place to "Just Dance".
I played for an hour last night and again on my commute to work for about an hour, im really happy with it.
The performance seems great to me, and i love the art style , it really pops even in handheld mode.
@Powerballad I don't own this game, but watched a review. The art style does look great!
@DragonEleven '...cloud shadows move around erratically'.
@Shellcore 'That's basically a participation award...'
More like a 'precipitation' award 😜
@Shellcore If your on the fence i fully recommend a purchase
@Aerona but NOT doing what you suggest was the general idea.
Comments needs more gloating @dakt At least I think it was dakt, it's 5:30AM, I'm going back to bed.
I played a few hours of it yesterday after work. It's really fun and funny. Rabbid Peach is hilarious.
@DragonEleven I found that too!! Only issue I've seen so far...
A question for those who might know...:
If I buy this game digital on the European eShop, it will show as purchased in my Japanese account (which is my main account) when the game finally releases in Japan.
My question is, if then (after the games releases in Japan) I delete the European version, can I re-download from the Japanese eShop? Or the game is locked to the eShop (and user) it was originally purchased in?
The thing is that I want the game now for me, but my kids don't understand English, so when the game releases in Japan, I would like to get it from the Japanese eShop so I can use the game in Japanese...
This is all very confusing, but if someone can show some light I'll be eternally grateful!!!!!!
Updated: Maybe this is not the place to ask such question, so I'll re-post this on the forums.
Day one patches!
Yeah, it's nice that they're quick to fix and add stuff, but I'm coming from a time when developers were able to get all code and content finished before releasing it physical.
@maruse at this point I wouldn't even be so sure that it shows up as purchased on the Japanese account. It may or may not. They may patch in Japanese to the game you can buy now or it may be a different version like with Splatoon 2 for example.
If the game DOES get patched with Japanese then of course you don't need to delete it at all. You just need to install the patch.
If however the Japanese version is a completely different version then you would have to buy the game again to play it in Japanese.
@Proust he means that when the first info about the game leaked, everyone thought it sounded like trash, and that the general consensus was that Ubisoft better keep their filthy Rabbids away from our precious Mario. Then the game was announced and shown and basically everyone thought it looked awesome. Over the course of just a few days, it went from a game that was hated (based on really nothing besides a title and an idea), to a game that has been greatly anticipated be Switch owners.
@FX102A I don't think you understand why day 1 updates exist. Nothing to do with the media that the game is shipped on. This actually allows the games to be worked on after they go gold. The new content added between going gold and shipping is just the day 1 update.
Would you perfer the game to be delayed so the game going gold only happened after everything was done?
@manu0 thank you. That's what I'm fearing, that the game will be a different version altogether... I guess I'll just have to wait until Nintendo Japan deigns to release it here... It's stated as 2018... but when in 2018? January? December? It's going to be a long wait.
Loving it so far! It's actually shockingly challenging! I've played many a Fire Emblem and Disgaea with relative ease, but I've seen the Game Over screen a couple times in World 1, which I couldn't believe! Solid challenge, gorgeous game, and the Rabbids, somehow, aren't annoying. This game is a real gem, and I'm very exited to keep devouring it! If you like tactics games/turn-based RPGs, definitely give this a look!
@the8thark Yes, Yes I Would!
When any product goes "gold" I would expect it to be prepped for release. In the past this meant it had gone through its entire development process, playtesting and debugging was complete and the game the designers wanted was ready. Obviously bugs can slip through and thats where patches do come in; yet these were usually minor (unless a real oversight had occurred).
These Day 1 "Patches" (I'm hesitant to call them that cos they aren't fixes but entire additions of content) are merely outcome of unrealistic deadlines usually set by publishers.
@FX102A Actually the reality is this content and any tweaks just wouldn't have gone on the game at all and we would have never known.
Everybody longs for the good old days not remembering games would come out broken and just be broken for good. They couldn't evaluate things and fix small issues or correct content at launch or after.
I can't fathom why people complain about day one patches that are free, especially since if you are on these forums you almost 100% have the internet needed to update.
So far only completed World 1 and having a blast! Great game so far!
Getting it when Odyssey comes out together with splatoon and metroid and superstar saga. Always buy a couple of games in one package every couple of months
@NintendoFan4Lyf
Yeah I don't get all the negativity especially since most of them haven't even played it yet. I enjoyed the two hours I played it last night. The update took no time at all.
@Henmii
Hard to tell if you are being serious or not? An update patch is done to improve the game. I don't see a legitimately good reason to not want the update?
@Dakt It was in regards to your comment on the last M+R article and your ensuing discussion with Jax.
We had one crash where the Switch closed the game, and a few instances where it would freeze for a couple of seconds before springing back to life"
Yeah probably waiting for a patch
So, you were right about waiting for a patch fixing some of the issues. Nothing ever ships done anymore. It's all betas and early access, but at full price. As my wife likes to say - Why pay quality testers when you can get people to pay you to play your game then fix it later?
Makes for one heck of a Christmas morning too, downloading all of those updates before you can play any of your gifts.
10% off at Target with the Cartwheel app.
@In_Ex_Fan Okay.
due to my crazy shifts, I'm only about 4 hours in but loving it so far
I wonder what the two new scenes that is listed are that about?
@rdrunner1178,
True, but if they did test everything better it would not be needed. Besides the update also seems to ad cutscenes, that could already have been included on the card. Personally I rather not have any updates, especially on a system (the Switch) where all the data is stored on the device and you can't use a sd-card or harddisc.
I mean the saves. The saves seem locked to the internal memory. I don't know about updates though. Are they also locked to the internal memory?
