Brazilian Brawler 99Vidas Is Bringing Old-School Arcade Combat To Switch This Year

It looks quite good to me.Not a fan of how the sprites move but I like the art style.

I'd love an resurgence of old school beat-em-ups.

Can't say I like the art style of this, a few of these so called retro games look this way rather than the true 16 bit style of the megadrive/snes. I might pick it up if cheap enough but I'd much prefer the guys behind Sonic Mania to do the same thing with Streets of Rage

I don't know about this, but I'd pick up Code of Princess again if it came to the Switch.

@sillygostly There was a time where for a decade or two every game had to look "new" and "modern" (by the standards of the time) and things like this wouldn't stand a chance of survival. If you're a fan of creativity you should be glad things like this are allowed to exist now and the industry is capable of supporting them.

I do quite like the art style. At first the sprites seem very basic, but something about the simplicity and the prominence of their eyes does harken back to the feel Double Dragon gave me back in the day. My preference is more for the sort of 2D graphics seen on Neo Geo, but that was a true art form only mastered by the designers of the 1990s.

The art style looks like a Kunio series game crossed with the Double Dragon NES port. So desperate for a good beat em up on a Nintendo console, I don't even care what it looks like as long as it plays well. Looks fun. Could a Brazilian NL member elaborate any further? Are the main playable characters the hosts of the 99Vidas pod?

I rather have that brawler with the game tropes like Terra from FFVI. What was it called again?

Looks like a Brazilian version of River City Ransom which I enjoy. Since this is a game made from Brazil, it kinda disappoint me why none of the characters use the Capoeira fight style. Maybe made by Brazil but probably had western audience in mind?

You had me at brawler.

Then you lost me with bland characters and a HUD that's half the height of the screen. Unlockable characters would be a nice touch if every character wasn't "Person" or "Person with Tail."

My love for brawlers outweighs the style for me. It looks like Streets of Rage x River City Ransom x Earthbound lol, and that's not necessarily a good thing! But I can never get enough of the genre and I'd love to see a resurgence. Wishful thinking. But I think I may pick this up when it drops.

@retro_player_22 First of all, Brazil is a western country too, and we're not made of only capoeira and samba. And while the game also seems to also target the worldwide audience, it started as a very brazil focused project, since the characters of the game are the members of a famous podcast around here. It is funny to see a brazilian game on the Switch where there is not even a brazilian eshop, but that strikes me as a sign of its succes. I hope more brazilian games come to Nintendo systems!

As a Brazilian I must support this game. Probably the first non garbage game made here in years.

This reminds me that Hamster needs to release Sengoku 3, which is FAR better then the first 2 Sengoku games. It's quite surprising they didn't already release it considering they usually release the best game in a series first (KoF98, MS3, SS4, AS2).

Great idea, horrible looking characters. If you are paying homage then do so. I find it frustrating when people go to the lengths to make something ....almost amazing.

@BigKing actually, you play as the members of the podcast. Was an internal joke. The game was targeted to the listeners of the podcast. I have no idea why they would try to launch the game outside this niche, but I will enjoy it =D

@retro_player_22 I understand your point of view and that is exactly why the game was made for a Brazilian audience instead of world wide. Capoeira is pretty much to show of for the world. Nobody that lives in Brazil would buy a capoeira game =P
