Maximum Games has confirmed that it is publishing Spiral House's co-operative adventure Troll and I on the Nintendo Switch next month.
The game - which is already available on PS4, Xbox One and PC - will physically retail for $29.99 / £24.99 and launches in North America and Europe on August 15th.
Here's what Christina Seelye, CEO of Maximum Games, had to say:
Troll and I is the perfect first entry for us into the Nintendo Switch system. The cooperative gameplay lends itself perfectly to the local co-op features of the platform, where two friends can work together to battle the challenges they face as a team.
Will you be picking this one up?

It looks interesting.
Edit: The reviews say it's pants.
http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/troll-and-i 39%
Maybe that's why the video had very little if any gameplay.
Edit again: I read Destructoid's review.
https://www.destructoid.com/review-troll-and-i-430048.phtml 1/10
Could they be any more damning? Summation:
"Do not, under any circumstances, play Troll and I. Don't buy it on sale. Don't pirate it. Don't rent it from your local A-Z Video. Just. Say. No. The only benefit Troll and I may bring to the world is when your favorite YouTuber plays through it and provides you with many funny moments as they struggle."
I kept reading a 4 letter word repeated throughout the review. It starts with "s" and ends with "t". And no it's not "scat", though it does have the same meaning.
Best of e3 in 2016 but I've never even heard of it...
Also, those are some ugly looking models.
Hrm expensive I'll have to see reviews
Will wait for a review before committing.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It's €50 on PS4/Steam/Xbox. This'll be be the one time Switch owners catch a break on pricing it seems.
Well the metacritic for this game is rough...
Not to promote other websites too heavily, but the Destructoid review is downright scathing: https://www.destructoid.com/review-troll-and-i-430048.phtml
Mmm I'm not sure I can be friends with a troll...
"Will you be picking this one up?"
Going by its reviews elsewhere I'd rather pick up the flu.
I'll pick it up for sure. I'm looking to buy any game that I can co-op with.
Once again, no gameplay in the advert, it must be awful
This game is set for disaster, that's the prediction with the majority. We'll see though, I hope it's good.
I hate it when a trailer shows no gameplay.
Edit
Why so much hate for this game. Every review seems bad. Real bad
Gameplay and Let's Plays already available on YouTube. Metacritic available for review.
This game is garbage as I recall from the reviews.
It's only £19.99 on Amazon. Missed opportunity for an affiliate link there.
I was really excited at first for this title but the bad reviews on other systems makes me real iffy on it
I wouldn't spend a single cent on it. Don't want to waste the space on my system.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm not very familiar with Destructoid or their style of reviews, but I went to your link and read it anyways. I must say, it made me laugh! I'm just not sure how professional, or useful, it was. I get it, he thinks the game is sh*t. But even though he did give some examples, I felt like his review was missing a lot of details that would've helped to inform the reader.
Here's the first 25 minutes of gameplay, for those of you that are curious:
Don't expect it to be very good, though. The cut scene graphics are full of wooden, low-poly characters, with bland/plastic facial expressions, which makes it look like something that hasn't been seen since before the days of the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Those consoles already had far better animated characters, so how the heck this commercial product is so far below that, truly puzzles me. The in-game animations are slightly smoother, but still look decidedly before-last gen.
If I were Maximum Games, I would be thoroughly ashamed of myself...
Looks fun to me and a cheap price for a physical release ill give it a shot.
Why do they both have the exact same hair? Bothers me lol.
I've been looking forward to this. It looks great.
All the reviews I've seen say this game is laughably bad
Been waiting for this one for a while. I like how they were able to stylize the graphs while still having a realistic sense to them. The puzzles look really fun too. Plenty of "move this", "move that" co-op gameplay.
@roy130390 LoL!
The reviews seem dismal, but I am curious to see the game in motion running on Switch in person. The Switch has a severe lack of games stylized in a realistic fashion. Everything up to this point has been more or less cartoony or impressionistic, so I'm curious to see how a game with a visual style more grounded in reality will run on the Switch.
I will be getting this one. The gameplay video that I watched looks good to me. As long as the gameplay, story, & music are good, then I'm in. And from what I watched, it looks just fine.
This doesn't look like a good game.
future collectors item
@SLIGEACH_EIRE aye. It's a good original looking thing but I'm always suspicious when there's no gameplay shown....
Hmm, needs more trollface. Then it would be worth 30 fully grown bucks for trade. Because then it would let you know you wasted your money, and you could laugh and cry at yourself for being so gullible.
@Dang69
totally! when i first saw the troll I thought "oh the troll and I means he IS the troll." because he clearly transformed since they have the same... oh wait nevermind. haha
I sorta want to buy this and keep it in the shrink wrap.
@ThanosReXXX it actually doesn't look that bad.
Not good review scores, move on
@Meuz Actually there is an affiliate link to pre-order on the side of the screen, on desktop anyway.
A 39% on Metacritic is really, really bad. Even low effort movie cash-in games can usually manage a 50% at least.
Even though it has bad reviews it will still be touted as Nintendo fans don't buy 3rd party games if it sells bad.
I'll pick it up in a bargain bin, purely for laughs.
@DoctorWily Destructoid are a very reputable and well known site. I'm surprised you haven't heard of them.
@Paddle1 You're right. I don't know how I missed that.
After reading all this it sounds very bad. Not sure if this game deserves to be in the bargain bin. I have a feeling this game is going to smell nasty.
It's a AA release from a B-grade publisher's portfolio.
But, for $30, and with a long list of apparent fixes and updates like "addition of mini map, more checkpoints, 3 difficulty settings, increased crafting speed, new tutorials and hints, increased resources and balance improvements" maybe it'll be a lot better than the version reviewed on other platforms.
I'll probably pass myself, but, maybe others will be interested. It's only like $23.99 after GCU discount. Not bad really
I feel sorry for Vroom in the Night Sky - it might be about to lose its title...
@Jessica286 It isn't bad-looking per se, but it definitely is last-last gen looking. Almost no expression in the eyes of characters, mannequin faces, plastic skin and wooden animation in a lot of parts.
Some of that could be negated by interesting or entertaining gameplay, but according to most reviews now online, and also personal reviews on YouTube, people should probably not get their hopes up for that.
@ThanosReXXX thats what interest me the most. If it is fun I don't care how it looks. But if it looks bad and plays bad well thats a no.
lol @ the folks in here saying they're going to buy it simply to have something to play on their switch smdh
Come on, y'all.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Oh I've definitely heard of them. It's just not a site that I visit. NL and IGN are enough for me, especially since most of these sites report a lot of the same information. I was just saying that I'm not familiar with the author of that review at all, so at a glance, it looked very unprofessional. But I don't have any context for his style so it could be that that review is just a reflection of how bad the game really is or that he has the vocabulary of a teenager. I'm not sure. Either way, it was pretty funny to read.
@ThanosReXXX so, no, i shouldn't buy it?
The game has not so good reviews. I wonder if it will actually sell well on Switch. There are so many great games on the console that this could easily be passed both due to quality and price.
@NEStalgia I honestly can't say, since I haven't played it. I'm just going by first impressions and reviews/previews I've seen so far.
Neo Geo games on the other hand...
That trailer looked rough and the lack of game play really bothered me. The Destructoid review made me laugh. Seems this game has gotten mostly negative reviews.
I won't be picking this title up, but I would love to read Nintendolife's take on this game.
Haven't gotten the best reviews but have found myself liking games that got bad reviews before, think reviewers are a little to harsh, sorta like if it's not an open world game it will not get a good review or something. Devils third was awesome in my opinion for example.
But yeah I will try this game and take it for what it is, meaby I like it, meaby I don't.
I don't generally go by review scores, I go by what I like. However, I was about to pre-order this from GAME for £19.99, and thought I'd Google it first. Part of me is annoyed that I did, part of me is pleased that I did; as this game has got pretty much universal hatred from everyone who played and reviewed it, and it's not often that happens and a game is rated as low as this as well. I'll have to see now. Still maintain it looks a little interesting to me.
I've just had a look at the reviews. Nope. Nope. Nope. Not getting that. Also, why is it much more expensive on Steam? Usually games are pretty well priced there.
The Last Troll
Very suspicious lack of gameplay or even mechanics being shown here. Co-op games are all about mechanics, sad to say story just isn't the top priority in a co-op title for me. I'm hoping it'll change that come release, but frankly I'm not holding my breath.
@Menchi187,
Its a miracle! And I was thinking the Switch price was epic trolling, like always.
