The incredible demand for the Nintendo Switch has enabled it to jump to the top of the NPD sales charts over the past few months but hardware shortages - driven by a lack of components - have cost the system top spot in May.
According to the latest NPD figures, the PlayStation 4 was the biggest selling console in North America during the month of May, but the Switch's success continues to drive the market. Hardware spend grew 7 percent compared to May 2016 to $147 million, with Switch largely responsible for that boost.
Nintendo games also performed well in the software charts, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild both selling briskly enough to remain in the top 5. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia on the 3DS also made the top 10; it's worth noting that digital sales for all three games were not factored into these results.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
There. Now can we talk rationally?
GTAV isn't a fun game. Stop buying it.
Im hoping they restock the Solid L/R Red and Solid L/R Blue packs of Joycon. Cant seem to find those anywhere.
Nintendo are going to continue having these shortages for as long as the Switch is manufactured simply due to companies like Apply gobbling up supply of components.
Wow...
Congratulation for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe !
But, it was so ironic because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on 2nd place among with Tons of gritty, nsfw games on other positions.
What a pathetic people to play such a nsfw games like that...
@LUIGITORNADO How is it there are still so many people who want a 2013 game and don't already own it? Is buying another copy the way to get around having your online account banned, I wonder?
If which case, that's a lot of people who have a $40 monthly subscription to ruining others people's fun...
Well, damn. Nintendo could have gotten a first place but a stock shortage got in the way. Nintendo is truly the Peter Parker of the gaming industry...
@LUIGITORNADO
The sheer hilarity of the brutal honesty in your comment earned you my insta-like.
@dystome I still haven't played GTA V yet and I've wanted to play it ever since it came out. Not everyone has a lot of money and can buy things on release.
Will they ever learn?
@Anti-Matter
Oh give it a rest. Your endless judgement and criticism of other people is what's pathetic.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Will they ever learn?
No
@dystome "How is it there are still so many people who want a 2013 game and don't already own it?"
I thought you were talking about Mario Kart 8 for a second, but then that came out in 2014. What you said, the same could easily be applied to that game.
@Anti-Matter you judging people on what games they play is pathetic. We are all able to make our own choice in games we play
@Tsurii It might not be as bad as it seems, I believe that NPD ranks the games by the amount of $ they made instead of units sold, so the fact that it's being sold at a lower price plays against Echoes in the rankings.
Oh well... if it was as easy as flipping a switch (pun not intended) and additional units would appear out of thin air (even if production costs would be involved), I am sure Nintendo would gladly do it. That they can't keep up with demand is not by fault of their own this time I believe... Let's hope they find their way around this dilemma soon.
@Anti-Matter You want to talk pitiful? Look at the Switch chart.
Nintendo Switch Software Top 20: May 2017
1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Wii U port
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Wii U port
3. Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers - 9 year old X360 Live port
4. Disgaea 5 Complete - Port
5. 1-2 Switch - Lazy abomination
6. Lego City: Undercover - Wii U port
7. Puyo Puyo Tetris - Port
8. Super Bomberman R - Cash grab released before it was even finished
9. Just Dance 2017 - Port
10. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ - Port
Hopefully they will get the wind in their sails in time for Christmas
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Not really. It's far more mystifying that GTA V still sells,given its been on 5 popular formats. Nobody bought a Wii U so it's not that surprising people who missed out are taking the opportunity to play MK8 in fully-realised form. Double dipping for the newer, better versions might account for a few sales of both as well.
I will wait for Nintendo's official quarterly reports before passing judgement. Anything under 1M a month global is disappointing though. I'm expecting them to report 3-5M for the quarter.
@UK-Nintendo @electrolite77
Sorry if we have to do this again.
Well... when I saw the chart like that, I thought to myself what a horrible gaming taste.
I mean, is it really hard to play something nice and not Rated M over and over again ?
Those nsfw games was so overwhelming, raised my awareness and my dislikeness toward something dangerous like that. It was like a Toxin that came even closer to me.
Yeah, I know you two will keep arguing with my comments. I understand.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Yo, I mean the NPD chart was suck.
The Top 20 Switch games was Really COOL !
Sorry if you misunderstood.
@Anti-Matter is it really hard to understand that different people have different tastes than you? This issue isn't that you don't like those games it's the fact that you see it fit to constantly judge and condemn people who do from your moral high horse. Get over yourself and let people enjoy what the want it is in no way hurting you.
@LUIGITORNADO Been trying to get my head around why it continues to sell and So far I have 2 conclusions:
1) People get frustrated with GTA Online and either trade it in or break the disc, only to then develop withdrawal symptoms.
2) People are trading it in for credit towards another game or cash for something and then have withdrawal symptoms when they earn some money.
@BLP_Software Gamers? Rational? Loving your optimism
Keep these false system shortages up Nintendo, and consumers could potentially give up the search for a Switch. As you're starting to see now.
If these Switch stock shortages keep up Japan is going to be importing them from the rest of the world when Splatoon 2 releases.
I wonder how many of their seemingly very limited inventory Nintendo will set aside next month for the Japan only Splatoon edition? If it was in the UK I'd bet a lot of pre-orders would go unfullfilled.
Who knows, maybe that's the real reason for the stock shortage, setting aside Switch for those bundles.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE And how does a component shortage have anything to do with Nintendo learning?
There's plenty over in the Lands of Nether, or at least they're in stock, so come and get them! https://www.nedgame.nl/nintendo-switch/nintendo-switch---red-blue/2098082589/
But dang, that whole part shortage thing sucks and it's easily re-traceable how it happened. A sad thing that conditions have forced into being, here's hoping Nintendo can resolve it before the bomb drops.
We've barely been hearing about third-party games probably still planned, and I've got a feeling that might be because Nintendo is doing whatever they can to fix the part problem.
@Phin68
You know, keeping availability in check to raise interest and hype may or may not be a valid business strategy under certain circumstances, but with Switch interest has been WAY beyond anything that would have called for that right from the start, so no, I do not believe that you're right with your assumption. Doesn't make sense.
GTA V is a beast. Nintendo should have paid for all development costs if that was it would have taken to get it released on switch.
Nintendo are missing out on money with these switch shortages
@ninkza They should do business with reliable companies.
@redd214
Sorry for concerning about my last comment.
Well... I tends to give a typical comments like that when the topic is talking about nsfw games on chart.
I understand the consequences when I gave comments like that, someone will complained at me.
But, hey... it wasn't always bad at all I guess. Maybe there is someone who still care, have awareness and big concern toward nowadays games or entertainment. Not many people have a feeling like that.
I know the way I talk looks like I condemn people who doesn't have same interest with me. In my place, there are Tons of gamer who play nsfw games too much and I felt so Insecured, almost no one can be my friends if they have such a taste like that. I (Almost) always lonely, have no real friends to talk about because between me and them are Completely different like Water and Oil.
In my loneliness, I wish I can befriend with someone who has same concern with me, like to play appropriate games, have a good times together.
Btw, thank you for replying my last comment.
@Anti-Matter
You need to grasp that others have different taste to you. If you choose to live on a pretend world where everything is repressed and childlike and safe, that's fine. But calling others pathetic because they don't want to do that is out of order.
@Anti-Matter Just because someone has different tastes than you doesnt mean you cannot be friends with them, that is a ridiculous way of thinking. I have many friends that have differnet views on a number of topics (games, religion, politics etc) and we get along just fine. Embracing differences is a good thing.
@JunkRabbit Nintendo aren't unfamiliar with product shortages. They've done it with amiibo, the NES Classic, etc. Heck, even the Wii U had product shortages for a time. And we know that wasn't a result of popularity.
Nintendo has done this stocking strategy for years now, so I can't help but assume that the same thing's happening with the Switch. I agree that it's a clever tactic to make consumers want something they can't have, but that strategy can only hold itself for so long.
I've said it elsewhere on this site but I wanted to reiterate that if anyone lives remotely near New York City, their Nintendo world store at Rockefeller center gets stock every single morning.
@Anti-Matter You have your preferences, others have theirs.
@rjejr There is this:
https://www.tesco.com/direct/nintendo-switch-neon-redblue-console-includes-splatoon-2-limited-edition/335-1194.prd?
Plenty of pre orders left for it too. Pretty shoddy of Nintendo not to include the neon Joy-Cons in the bundles outside of Japan.
Let's hope Nintendo gets some more parts for Switches. With Splatoon 2 around the corner, they can't afford not to.
Nice to see Switch still doing great! can't wait until they solve that expansive cost for theses Switches tho.
@Anti-Matter I'm sorry my collection of NSFW movies, video games, music, books, and friends offend you. I live my life free of censorship because I'm adult enough to realize that seeing violence, gore, sex, and hearing naughty language doesn't mean that I am going to go out and commit violent crimes. Just because people don't share your same exact likes and dislikes doesn't mean you can't be friends with them. It means they are a different unique individual. Please accept people don't buy games you wouldn't because they enjoy them, not because they're inhuman monsters destined for hell.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I would imagine the vendor selection process is very vigorous at this level. I wonder what kind of pressure this puts on the people who have to actually makes these things. Of course, many people would rather not think about that though, not that I'm suggesting there's any impropriety at the factories Nintendo uses. I guess these is a limit to manufacturing at the million of units level.
Besides, it makes me feel justified that I lined up over night. smug mode activated
@Anti-Matter You seem very dedicated to the cause of calling people pathetic if they like anything that you deem inappropriate or "nsfw" as you say. Maybe if you didn't constantly judge people that way, you might find that you have a lot more in common than you think.
I recently got a Switch for a surprised birthday gift. I think Amazon had a few in but quickly ran out. Nintendo needs to ship more units. As for GTA V, I'm surprised it continues to sell well. I have it for Xbox One and I enjoy it, but you would think everyone would have it by now. Guess it's safe to say GTA 6 will happen one day.
@LUIGITORNADO Gta 5 was a fun game imo, but it is old, and its a phenomenon that its still delivering these sales numbers.
The upside to it selling like it has, is it means that rockstar wouldnt dare deliver a half baked RdR2 content wise.
Great to see Neir Automata still selling, brilliant game.
@rjejr I've pre-ordered the Splatoon 2 edition but am holding my breath to see if I actually get one.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE no other console has that version of binding of issac
@Phin68
"They've encountered it with amiibo, the NES Classic, etc." There, fixed it for you. It's very unlikely that there has ever been intent behind it, as - like I said - it doesn't make sense at all. (or does "hey, I'll generate interest and demand by making something look very rare, but then I don't EVER deliver either...!" sound plausible to anyone else? Where's the money in that?)
Have they been able to predict demand for some of their products correctly? No. Could you have done better? I seriously doubt it. (And saying so in hindsight isn't a prediction). You're looking for an easy explanation without too many variables, preferrably one which allows you to point a finger at someone (for whatever reason... does it make you feel superior perhaps?) But the world in general, and business specifically, isn't that simple, I'm afraid, not in my experience.
Again: keeping stock low artificially MIGHT be a valid business strategy for some under very specific circumstances, but here it just doesn't make sense at all, so I really cannot agree with you. Sorry.
Not a huge surprise too see they're still having shortages. I know around here it's still pretty sought after. Enough so that sometimes I see signs in electronic stores that say "Looking for a Switch? We just got some in stock!".
@Dryden I think in the UK you can only get the solid red and blues from the bundle packs and the Switch console pack. If you don't mind paying an extra £10 for Snipperclips, you can grab the bundle pack off the UK Nintendo Store
@SLIGEACH_EIRE By your logic, any multiplat game is a port. Looks like after 3 1/2 years there aren't too many real games on the Xbox One or PS4 then either.
@wazlon Hold your breath, cross your fingers, sacrifice a goat.
My problem is I dont' trust Ntinedo, so when they say "we dont' have enough parts" I read that as "we're redistributing all of the NA Switch to Japan for Splatoon 2". Which I would do to, and I'm fine with, as long as the US gets it's fair share when Mario releases this holiday. This will be the Switch's first Christmas in the US, a lot of people are going to want one. I'm hoping to pick 1 up the day Mario releases and avoid the Nov-Dec holiday rush. But I'm too old for standing on lines at 3AM at 7 different stores on 7 different days. I'll show up early 1 day for Mario, but that's it.
@Anti-Matter
There's one thing that puzzles me about this. You're saying that you do not like games with mature content, games that revolve around violence for example, because they might have a negative influence on people (which you watch with concern). Did I get this right so far? There's nothing wrong with this point of view, and wishing for a more peaceful world is commendable.
At the same time you're saying that you're into boxing and martial arts (even your avatars are an indication of that). And that's what I don't get, because isn't the whole point of these sports to punch your opponent in the face and inflict as much pain as possible, to a degree where his conscious mind cannot handle it anymore and he passes out? And that is in real life, mind you, not in games (i.e. virtual space/make believe). This to my mind is a much more real violence than any GTA or CoD out there (as it happens in RL and inflicts real pain; it also requires REAL aggression to get anywhere with it), and enjoying this as a sport (participant and audience alike) feels much more cringe-worthy to me...
There seems to be a contradiction to some degree.
@JunkRabbit The "you couldn't have done better" argument is a cop out. That's like saying a critic can't critique a movie because they never made a movie. You can criticize something without having knowledge of the field.
But back to the topic. When I say that Nintendo is falsifying demand, I'm not making a baseless accusation. I can look at companies like Microsoft and Sony and see they don't encounter the same stocking problems Nintendo goes through. Is that because they're less successful than Nintendo? Not necessarily. Compare the launches of the PS4 to the Wii U, and see which system had the early shortages (it was the Wii U). Thus, I can assume that the way these companies approach these products must be different.
I'm not saying that Nintendo's in the wrong for approaching this strategy though. It just seems like a foolish action for Switch's long term success.
@Tsurii I hope they don't double down on Waifu Emblem shutters
@Aaron09 People that ignorantly throw that out there disappoint me. Just improve upon that formula, and have it not have gameplay implications so that people can ship whoever they want with who. This whole "waifu" crap is cringe worthy at best, and really annoying at worst, what's wrong with people have some extra emotions and investment in characters? Yes it's not done the best way possible now ,but the Switch will allow room for that I'm sure.
GTAV is really amazing. That so many games have tried to dethrone it but failed shows how well-loved it is by so many people. It's the definitive open-world game it would seem for its genre and nothing looks like it can beat it at this point. I guess it's very against Nintendo's image to take a game like that on its system but I feel like if GTAV was on Switch, the sales would probably be crazy and it would be great to boost its reputation in Western countries.
@LUIGITORNADO translation: "(Fill in the blank game not available on a Nintendo platform) isn't a fun game. Stop buying it."
FTFY. Just say what you really mean next time.
@Grudgebearer I PERSONALLY feel like they end up focusing more on fanservice designs, tropey characters, and making sure everyone has a conversation with everyone. Than, they leave out effort in the writing a good story. See Fates/Awakeing (past chapter 12) Look at echoes for exapample, it's a twenty year old game, and even though the story's pretty simple, the presentation is amazing. I love Fatess and Awakening, however, their story can come close to being considered cringe worthy. All I ask is, if they do double down on waifu emblem, don't forget about the story. Also, don't make the avatar a main character.
@JunkRabbit
"Have they been able to predict demand for some of their products correctly? No. Could you have done better? I seriously doubt it."
That's a silly argument. The poster you're replying to isn't paid to predict demand for Nintendo products. By that logic everybody is above criticism, even politicians.
Although most of us could have predicted demand for the NES Classic better than Nintendo.
@chriiiiiiiiiis
Indeed. GTA V is a great game. It's a shame it's on everything except Nintendo.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Dude give it a rest. It's an industry wide shortage of components. Doing business with reliable companies isn't the issue here.
@Aaron09 I would agree with those points, and yes, just flesh out characters a lot more. Switching (pun intended) consoles would severely help as the 3DS's constraints are no longer there (and get a good story guy in there, for hell's sake) and no more "this defining quirk is the entire side character, be sure to mention that every-single bloody time".
But why stick "waifu" as label over that? I didn't personally have any issue with the characters in Awakening, save for Nowi being awkward in being a 10,000 years old loli and Tharja being obessed, and even if she did get what she wanted, she wasn't even a good mother, but those are things easily fixed I'd reckon. Plus you have to keep in mind that many people enjoyed the games for what they were.
TL:DR Less cringe and side-character quirks, good story and fleshed out marriage system. Preferably no children unless it fits.
@rjejr Yeah, I know the component shortages due to Apple are probably quite real as it happens to many other companies besides Nintendo, but we are in a span of time right now where Nintendo needs to stockpile for a significant spike in demand, in Japan especially, when Splatoon 2 launches. Gotta please those fans for a short time I think, first, then back to the general audiences again.
Just putting the hardware in new boxes and ramping up marketing is probably enough to pull away units. Plus... there's that preorder demand.
It's worth noting that some of the higher retail prices come from Nintendo realizing they'd have to pay out something extra for components throughout the launch year just to meet demand...
@Anti-Matter
Really? Not everyone's 12.
@LUIGITORNADO
What a dumb comment! GTAV is one of the best games of all time and if you can't see that, I seriously doubt your ability to judge a good quality game
I mean really???
@Phin68
You can't compare reviewing a movie, game or piece of music with criticizing a business decision. Even by the definition of the words this is not the same (context is as important for the precise meaning). And since you do not know what decisions were made by whom, at which point and for what reason, you cannot reasonable claim to know better.
With a movie you can of course see what choices the director, the camera person, the cutter, the production designers, etc. have made, you can hear the music, you can see the actors act, have your thoughts on the script... And on this you can base a subjective opinion if the end product meets your personal taste or not. So far so true.
But you don't have the same amount of insight into the issue at hand. You can't, because this isn't a movie. You speculate based on something that isn't evidence, but only a fact (the shortage; the evidence you're looking for is that which caused the situation, but this you do not know, it's behind the scenes, not present on the silver screen).
Microsoft and Sony need very different parts for their products, so this isn't an indication either. And as I wrote earlier, if it was as easy as flipping a switch and more units would just appear out of thin air...
Finally: "It just seems like a foolish action for Switch's long term success."
With this you're making my point, it proves to me that it cannot be true. 'Cause if you think that Nintendo doesn't know that, you're not as smart as you claim to be (by saying that you're smarter than them, because you have understood this, while they haven't, the ignorant fools...). This is what I feel makes no sense about your whole argument.
Either way, I have my Switch, I couldn't care less (though of course I wish for Nintendo that Switch will be the soaring success we all hope it to be).
@JunkRabbit
Ah, thanks for reading my last comment.
Well... about Boxing / Kickboxing / Muay Thai / K-1, they are my favorite Martial Art yet at the same time they are about Violence. Okay, this is the reason why I allowed them.
In my eyes, after I watched them carefully so many times, despite of being violence I caught the violence level are still tolerable enough for me (Not too brutal). Also, I have checked all the K-1 games on ps2 and other Boxing games as well. Indeed, the games was rated Teen, the Maximum rating that I still allowed in my gaming area. And that's why I allowed Street Fighter also in my gaming area because Tolerable to watch Violence (The Violence level still looks like I hit the dummy and no serious injures captured).
To tell the truth, I have interest about Boxing so much since when I was 6 or 7 years old if I remembered ( I was a Kindergarten student about to became Grade 1 Primary school student). I got my interest about Boxing from Rocky III ( My Mom has a demo VHS video, contained several movies compilation trailers including opening of Rocky III scene). Well, perhaps it was an "Accident" to let a 6 / 7 years old kids to watch the trailer of Rocky III movie.
Also, I remembered when I was 6 years old, still was being a Kindergarten student, there was a Theatrical Drama about Rocky III, roled by Primary school students in my Kindergarten school (4 of them was became a living Red/Blue/White corner, 2 of them was became a Boxers, 1 became a judge and other hit the Triangle to start the "boxing match"). Ah... that was so memorable...
As I grow up, I found myself like something cute, Chibi looking after I watched several Animes with Parody inside in Chibi form such as Chibi Prince Tennis. And as I knew about NDS, I found one NDS game that surprisingly caught my interest. It was Animal Boxing NDS. The gameplay concept was exactly I want but too bad... poor developed.
Since no developers want to revive that Chibi Boxing, I create my own fictional Boxers to satisfy myself and also for small Business purpose (Maybe I can start to promote my Chibi Boxers galleries from simple things such as printed T-Shirt, Mug, Calendar, etc). I have some ideas and gameplay concepts about Chibi Boxing after I learnt from Street Fighter Alpha series + Street Fighter III + K-1 series. You can also noticed from my avatar, I drew my fictional Boxers / Kickboxers by myself in Cute form. Pretty impressive, isn't it ?
Oh, lately I still learnt about Bird's Wing movement, Bird's Wing type, Bird's design in cartoon because I have very interesting ideas to combine Anthro Avian with KickBoxing sport. The result might be so amazing, but I can't tell you right now until I drew and posted as my avatar.
Anyway, to answer your confusion about my gaming rules, I allowed rated Everyone , Everyone 10+ and Teen for the age rating that I allowed in my gaming area. Teen rated might contain Violence (But must be tolerable to watch), Mild language (but not profanities), moderate partial nudity (Maybe just barechested for males or not totally exposed half naked girls), Mild Blood (Small injuries , small wounded are still okay for me but not bloodshed), etc.
Sorry for made you confused. I have explained part of my history that shaped me like that. Well, I hope you understand about my wackiness in this site.
They can only make them so fast until they open the new production lines later this year.
People talk about it as if it's suddenly a thing about Apple hogging all the NAND, but that's not really what we are currently feeling the effects of.
Meh, it was pretty much expected. It's all because of the stock issue and it's Nintendo's fault, not the other companies. Nintendo has a bad habit of underestimating stock. A problem noticed at the launch of the Wii and recently the NES Mini and Switch. Sheesh.
As for the games, I wish Echoes did better. Now Nintendo will go back to the waifu generator path of Fire Emblem games followed shamelessly by Awakening and Fates. Sad!
(Wait, that last line makes me sound like Trump XD)
@JunkRabbit It is definitely true you can observe the intentions of a film production by judging its qualities, but I'm saying the same could be done with anything in regards to criticism. Observing Nintendo's history of low asset production at launch leads me to believe a similar or identical situation is happening with the Switch. As with a movie too, you'll never be able to completely rationalize for why something is the way it is. They're all just educated guesses.
@electrolite77
But that's exactly my point, isn't it? The poster claims they know better than the ones at Nintendo, who getting paid for this sort of thing. Better than the experts (if you'd like to call them that; after all they're only human, too). Better than the ones who know what the individual reasons were for each shortage. And it would be foolish to assume that each time the reasons were the same. It's basically all just assumptions, not fact. You and me are also only assuming that the poster is not paid for this sort of assessment and possibly lacks the relevant expertise (I will gladly stand corrected), but does this add to the statement's credibility or is it rather the opposite?
We all know that Nintendo tends to calculate conservatively/cautiously, because to overproduce means throwing money out of the window (and while the competitors are okay with losing money on each sold console, Nintendo apparently aren't, which is an equally fine point of view; it is a sensible one, but not one without drawbacks, as we all can see). And who can blame them?
And I am not saying that they are above criticism either. I am saying that we do not have enough proof to claim that they're keeping stock artificially low. Let the criticism start after you actually know what you're criticizing is indeed true.
I for one couldn't have predicted such a demand for the NES Mini, because I do not have the slightest interest in this product myself (but this does not make me claim that no one does, which might be the difference here). If you ask me about a SNES Mini however... well, let's say, personally I have no interest in that either, but considering the NES Mini I can imagine demand for its big brother. Before the NES Mini none of us had the luxury of such a precedent. It's easy to say "Bah, we all knew that..." in hindsight.
@Phin68
Now we're getting somewhere!
Yes, Nintendo have encountered stock shortages many times before, but I say it's because they're cautious (and to a degree rightly so), and in each case probably for a multitude of smaller reasons, probably a different mix each time.
Like you I cannot believe that anyone would be foolish enough to keep stock low artificially in the current situation. Interest and hype is all there. People WANT to buy it and Nintendo know that. No need to artificially generate (additional) interest by making the product something desirable through rarity. It's also not THAT sort of product.
You say: "Yep, they're stupid enough alright!" I say: "I can't see anyone worth their money and in their right mind making such a dumb decision at this time with this product". That's the only difference between our statements.
@Anti-Matter
Well, actually I did not feel too confused myself, but it appeared to me that there was some level of confusion within yourself in regard to your values and how you live and show them.
While you draw the line what's tolerable and what's not tolerable at a specific level of violence, others might draw the line elsewhere, and this is something you should accept and embrace, not judge.
Some may actually draw the line not with levels of violence, but if it's real or not. Imagine someone who says "yes, I have no problem with GTA or CoD as it's fantasy, but even thinking about holding a real gun gives me shudders; I wouldn't dream of touching it, and I wouldn't want to inflict real pain or an injury to somebody else no matter how small, even for sport." I'd argue that this is also a perfectly nice and healthy way to live your life and this person may actually be quite charming and fun to be around...
So, since you're apparently not all about cuddly and cute after all and like some decent butt-kicking once in a while (as long as it's within YOUR tolerance levels), why not let others decide for themselves which path they take in regard to this issue and set their own tolerance levels and draw their own lines. They're probably not worse people for that...
With Nintendo's one a month launch schedule (rather than the Wii U's once a quarter), Nintendo should continue to have games at the top of the charts.
I wonder (and suspect) that summer break will increase the Switch's utility and visibility and increase demand . . . .
@SLIGEACH_EIRE What does it have to do with reliability?
@NintendoFan4Lyf Mate, we've tried this before and frankly you have better luck learning to play the piano with your tonsils than trying to convince him otherwise on that subject.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE so you hate ports eh? That's fine, we're all entitled to our own opinion. Even hypocrits like yourself.
In your own words over in this thread https://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/wiiu/darksiders_warmastered_edition
"Shame about the glitches. Still for €17 I don't really have any complaints. Darksiders 2 had glitches too but it didn't impede my enjoyment of the game."
Meaning you bought both Darksiders 1 and Darksiders 2 on Wii U, but wait a minute, aren't they, ports? Yes, yes they are.

So how's about you stop shoving this port BS down everyones throats highjacking every single thread? When every person on here gets it, you don't want a Switch, NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO WANT ONE OR TO LIKE ONE!
And honestly, by your definition, the Wii U didn't recieve any third party games that weren't ports, because how many of those were actually built on the Wii U first? Zombi and Rayman Legends? Only 2 I can think of, rest started life on PS3 and 360 and were then down ported to Wii U.
@Anti-Matter I get English isn't your first language so maybe this is getting lost in translation, but you're coming off as an extremist with the way you have a go at people for playing violent games. I'm just saying maybe you should cast less judgement on people, if you hate these violent games as much I'm going to assume you're religious and doesn't many bibles have quotes like let he without sin cast the first stone, judge not lest ye be judged etc...?
And hating those sorts of games is fine, continue to hate on them by all means, you're entitled to do so, but maybe hate the people who play them less? Or at least hate them internally and not vocally
@PAHTK #86 I personally think he's a masochist. He doesn't mean anything he types, he's just desperate for attention and likes people having a go at him. Probably comes from a town with a population of about 7.
@WiltonRoots I think he's on the damn Autism spectrum, I'm on it as is my brother and one of my best mates and I know the signs quite well.
Constantly forces his opinion on others as if its fact even when no one asked for it. Not everyone on the spectrum is like that but some are and you really can't argue with them.
That sucks. I hope Nintendo can meet demand soon.
@Grudgebearer I guess the term "Waifu Emblem" is a little harsh. You're right though, as long as they fix these issues, than I won't mind the support system being there. But I after the Echoes' lower sales, and mixed reception from "professional" critics (even though fans love it) I'm afraid they'll go back to the Fates formula. Hope not though! Nintendo said that the new Fire Emblem for Switch will look beautiful, and it's very rare for Nintendo to complement their own graphics, so I have hope lol!
@JunkRabbit
"The poster claims they know better than the ones at Nintendo, who getting paid for this sort of thing. Better than the experts"
Stop right there. Stop right there. 'experts' or not, nobody is infallible and therefore they are open to criticism. Businesses fail all the time, business people make mistakes all the time. Same as politicians, journalists, sports people, whoever. Are you not allowed to criticise a president because you don't do the same job and so haven't proven yourself to be better? It doesn't work like that.
Regarding the NES Classic itself, they themselves admitted they underestimated demand. That's why demand exceeded supply.
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/mynintendonews.com/2016/12/12/nintendo-admits-nes-mini-demand-is-far-greater-than-they-anticipated/amp/
Just another missed opportunity for Nintendo!
The Switch is even hard to find around here, what with less people versus living in a city. I was briefly excited when I entered an out-of-the-way WalMart the other day only to realize that the boxes in the display case were for docks.
@Phin68 "I can look at companies like Microsoft and Sony and see they don't encounter the same stocking problems Nintendo goes through."
Right, so Sony lied when they said they were having stock issues with PSVR and the PS4 Pro?
"We have been sold out [of the PSVR] ever since launch and it's only within the last month or so that it's started to come into supply and we're feverishly getting the factory cranked up as fast as we can [...] And as with VR, [PS4 Pro sales] have been restricted by our ability to supply the market."
https://www.polygon.com/2017/6/5/15728406/ps4-sales-stats
"Compare the launches of the PS4 to the Wii U, and see which system had the early shortages (it was the Wii U)."
Er, the PS4 did have stock shortages.

It's a shame that it's impossible to find a Switch anywhere. it's like the Wii all over again...which is why I'm always desperate to pounce on launch day consoles with Nintendo....they're all limited edition! OTOH, I suppose from Nintendo's perspective an impossible to stock console is a good kind of problem to have, if only it doesn't last so long it hampers interest like with the Wii. Wii sold great, but could have sold even more if it were available for the first year and a half.
@LUIGITORNADO That was simply beautiful. You win the thread.
Finally somebody said it! I don't get it. I just don't get the appeal. I mean I played it....I stopped probably 70% through though. It was kind of fun, I hate to say it wasn't any fun....some of the missions were kind of fun. It had moments. But it was moments that punctuated long sessions of boredom and minigames. And it was well polished, certainly....it's clear they put effort into making it..... But I really don't get why people love the game other than that it's a monument to street culture and makes frequent marajuana references that I suppose appeal to certain demographics? I can see word of mouth making it spread like that originally because of those elements...but the sustained sales are beyond comprehension.
Then again, the whole "sandbox" genre that focuses on "emergent gameplay" seems to be not about the gameplay being fun in its systems, but simply giving adults a big sandbox to play make believe in like the old Mattel playsets. I always thought "sandbox" was just a colloquial term to describe a gameplay world that provides substantial freedom of movement and approach. I'm starting to learn that to many it's a literal sandbox....there's nothing of actual design going on, its just you running around playing make believe in the world and making your own fun playing with things laying around. Which...to me, isn't even a video game if there's no actual goals or objectives. (I say this as a BotW fan however...)
@PAHTK Yep and we've probably both been snitched up to the mods now as well.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
ports or not these games can be played handheld mode and nothing in the market can match what nintendo are doing at the moment.
I estimate that Nintendo has sold 475,000 Switches worldwide in May 2017, with ~125,000 sold in Japan, ~190,000 sold in North America, and ~160,000 sold in Europe + Rest of the world.
May 2017 will likely be the slowest month of the year for the Switch, largely due to stock/production constraints coupled with the lack of big first party releases.
@the-madprofessor Wasn't aware of most of that info. Thanks for the sources.
@WiltonRoots wouldn't be surprised, they seem to protect him like he's a golden boy. Back in my day on this site before the name change flame baiting was a bannable offence.
@gatorboi352 So you would have us believe that @LUIGITORNADO owns a system for which he doesn't enjoy any of the games? Really? You'd think you'd be better at trolling by now given how often you do it.
Figured this would happen. Red light, green light momentum. If they had the stock for it, they possibly would have broken 10 million by now. As crazy as that sounds, it's probably shockingly true. To be honest, I'm pretty amazed by how much interest there is in a console that is rarely ever seen out in the wild. Not even any demo kiosks. Yet the sales numbers speak for themselves.
@Anti-Matter Problem is, with the rise of technology, a lot of people forgot how to work with metaphors and literary accompaniments. Most video games involve conflict and violence, but it used to be primarily metaphorical, like when you're reading a mythological story.
To use a Native American creation story, a lot of people are so obsessed with depicting the grotesqueness of the muskrat's forebear drowning to death, that they forgot the meaning of why it swam into the depths of the ocean, sacrificing itself to grab that little spec of living dirt, then resurfacing as a dead body, so the human manifestation of Mother Earth could spread life on the once barren earth. (Yeah, it completely ignores evolution, but it's an interesting story nonetheless.)
@JunkRabbit To be fair, even a really powerful form of martial arts like Muai Thai (or Pencak Silat, in Anti-Matter's case) is nowhere near as deadly as increasingly destructive firearms and explosives. (Unless you're Captain Falcon, of course. ) There's also a sense of spirituality and morality to consider when your weapon is your body, rather than an artificially manufactured extension of your desires.
@WiltonRoots
Ehem....
I'm from Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia.
Surabaya is one of big city in Indonesia, you know...
@PAHTK
Um.... you are a bit correct about Autism.
My youngest sister (She is 27, i'm 33 and She was graduated from Children Psychology degree) told me that I have a mild Asperger Syndrome based on my behaviour from the past until now, so I wasn't surprised if people called me weird or oddball. Oh, sorry if I have to admit it.
Lets hope they figure it out by October
BTW Nintendo will introduce a Splatoon hardware bundle in Europe and Japan (and likely North America as well, though not announced yet) when Splatoon 2 launches this July.
If these stock constraints aren't totally or at least somewhat sorted out by the time Splatoon 2 launches, then there will be a big problem as we approach the holidays. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Pokken DX, FIFA 18, and NBA 2K18 (and FE Warriors in Japan) will be released in the two months immediately following Splatoon 2, so supply must increase starting from the launch of Splatoon until the end of the holiday season.
@Anti-Matter I wasn't talking about you man....sorry for the confusion.
@LUIGITORNADO youRe absolutely right it's as boring as hell!
@PanurgeJr wat.
Reading Comp 101 my friend.
Also, how is exposing the truth considered trolling? Something something truth hurts.... something something...
@gatorboi352 Dude, whatever. You know damn well you're a troll, because nobody is so stupid that they think not liking GTAV means liking only Nintendo games. At least man up and own it.
@WiltonRoots
Sorry, sorry.
After I checked on post #86, you were talked about sligeach erie, right ?
@Savino
Thanks for the info. I've been trying to understand just how it's sold so much and it's good to hear an example of multiple purchases.
I hope Nintendo has the supply issue figured out by the time Christmas rolls around or they will be shooting themselves in the foot.
BTW, 3DS still looks like it is in short supply as well in the box stores here in the states.
@PAHTK @WiltonRoots I have a pretty good idea who you're talking about, i. e. the gentleman the moderators decided it was best for me to ignore; even when his comments and the responses are invisible you can't get away from him. I could take most of what he does, except a) he constantly reports people for behavior no worse than his, and b) I got tired of being called a liar, either directly to me or passive-aggressively to others. I once almost got us both banned; I gladly would have taken one for the team, but it wasn't to be. Oh well. Tell him I said hi, and that I'm glad for him that he's getting two Metroid games. Even he can't find a way to spin that negatively, right?
@PanurgeJr "Even he can't find a way to spin that negatively, right?"
you'd be surprised...
If my calculation of the Switch selling around 175,000 units in the US in May 2017 is close to being correct, that means the Switch sold more than 3X what the Wii U sold in its 3rd month (January 2013) and more than 2X what the 3DS sold in its 3rd month (May 2011).
The Switch is no Wii, but it's most definitely not a "Wii U 2" either, as some people in this comments section like to claim.
@PlywoodStick
Sure, I'm aware of both these facts, and you won't hear me crying out "hypocrite murderer!" to him... I chose the example to bring a point across, which does hold validity either way. Though morality and spirituality does not require flying fists, I do understand your point. In fact, I chose the tone I did for a reason... . I have been trying NOT to judge in my post. If I failed, sorry.
@electrolite77
You must misunderstand me, because...
"nobody is infallible and therefore they are open to criticism. Businesses fail all the time, business people make mistakes all the time. Same as politicians, journalists, sports people, whoever"
...is once again exactly my point. But we're talking about a claim that Nintendo is currently keeping stock low artificially and intentionally, and I just can't see that. It doesn't make sense in the current situation at all. this has not been criticism, it's speculation, presented as fact. The statement was not "Nintendo has once again underestimated demand" (this would have been a critical statement based on circumstancial evidence), but basically "Nintendo is lying to us and screwing us over, the ignorant fools, if they wanted they could satisfy demand immediately...", which is not a critical statement at all, but an accusation not based on fact or evidence, not even circumstancial). That's what rubbed me wrong in the first place. Fake news start that way.
And if I may quote myself from the same post:
"...I am not saying that they are above criticism either. I am saying that we do not have enough proof to claim that they're keeping stock artificially low. Let the criticism start after you actually know what you're criticizing is indeed true"
I think we're actually on the same page and just don't realize it.
Anyway, I think the original poster and I may at the very least have come to agree that it would be utterly stupid of Nintendo to do this, though we do disagree on the finer point if they really are or not. There is no reason to defend him anymore I believe.
Oh well. Nintendo sucks. What's new?
Hyperkin gets my money. My Retron HD ships in just two days!!!!!
@PanurgeJr @WiltonRoots well Metroid 2 is a port... 😶😶😶
@Anti-Matter I wasn't talking about you having Autism, I was talking about Eire. I am beyond positive he's on the spectrum.
However welcome to the club, I have Aspergers, my brother Autism and one of my best mates is also Autistic.
Honestly, this was expected. Hopefully Nintendo can maintain momentum and keep selling them as fast as they can make them.
On a related note, I find it weird that PS fansites are more negative toward PS4 taking the top spot in May than supposedly "non-biased" sources like IGN. On there, you'd think PS4 sold more simply because "Sony."
@PAHTK 😁
@SLIGEACH_EIRE except gta V is out on 5 different systems. Mario cart 8 was only on wii u.
@Aaron09 Let's hope the Switch gives them room to put intricate stories and the likes in it. I have a feeling the cramp, limited room of 3DS specs has much to do with how it was made in some aspects (not fleshing out side characters due to lines)
As for fans and critics disagreeing, I'd say the former is the one they have to keep an eye on, not the latter. But we'll see, I've got good hope that the enormous amount of extra creative space allowed by the Switch (compared to 3DS) will do miracles for the franchise. Same goes for the Pokemon RPG.
@Tsurii I'm surprised it hasn't even pass 200k in Japan yet. Perhaps there is franchise fatigue with that series? there have been 3 games in 4 years and a mobile game, too.
Hopefully North America and Europe can rescue that game and help get it closer to one million. It may not sell more than that but I think one million would make the game profitable for Intelligent Systems.
@PanurgeJr blindly bashing a well made and uber successful franchise that also happens to notoriously be absent from Nintendo consoles is a trait shared by many a NDFer.
@gatorboi352 Even were one to concede the truth of your obviously false claim, and I shall not, you have demonstrated neither that the gentleman in question is an NDFer, nor that his observation was blind. Try harder, troll.
@aaronsullivan I think I'm going to use the low stock to my advantage and just buy a Switch ASAP - well when Mario releases - and not wait until closer to the holiday. I really wanted to buy it at Gamestop so I could trade in my Xbox but I've decided I'll get it where I can and trade in the Xbox for a Pro controller and a game, or there abouts. We'll see. If there is a Mario-Switch bundle I may get up and wait online at 3AM just for old times sake.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE What's actually pitiful is that you think the Nintendo Switch is just gonna have ports for its entire lifetime when that's not true at all. We're getting Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, ARMS, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Metroid Prime 4, Kirby, Yoshi, etc.
@UK-Nintendo Yes they will. They've learned from the Wii U because it's selling a lot more, and they're listening to fans, as seen by the Switch being region-free, Super Mario Odyssey being open world, and Metroid Prime 4. That should tell you that they will learn, the problem is you like to be negative.
@Joytendo22
I said "If you choose to live on a pretend world where everything is repressed and childlike and safe, that's fine"
You'll see lots of comments from him about what games he wants and I don't reply because that's personal taste. It's the criticism of others that irks me.
@Anti-Matter you think people are pathetic because their taste in video games is different to your own?
I don't mean to start an argument, but that's one of several frankly bizarre comments I've read from you.
"He wasn't attacking anybody"
"What a pathetic people to play such a nsfw games like that..."
He was. My point is still, whatever he wants to do with his life, does not mean others are 'pathetic' or not 'normal' (to use an example from another thread) for being different. I stand by this 100%. Anybody who calls other people 'pathetic' on a public forum for having different taste in entertainment has to expect replies.
@luke88
Um... it doesn't mean that.
I mean, if only those gamers can play any Safe for Watch (Until Rated Teen) games regardless of the titles, I would glad to hear because they want to try different games, not just only same typical uninteresting games over and over again.
That was I critized about.
But sadly, the reality is very harsh. Tons of nsfw games sold like cigarettes in my places. It just made me felt so insecured, why these reality should be happened ? It was not a Fun at all. It was a Disaster. I don't understand why they still persist did that ? Didn't they know those nsfw games is same horrible as negative effects of cigarettes ? At some point, I felt I cannot take it anymore. Someone must change that horible situation. Someone must stop that disaster. Someone must fix it. And whoelse can fix that situation if not from people who has responsibility to fix that chaos ?
Well, I must say sorry first. I don't mean to bashing someone. Just my thought looking at the situation right now.
@Anti-Matter Some games have the same negative effects as cigarettes?
@luke88
I called it Addictive, but in negative level.
@Tsurii is #7!! I think thats good enough. what do the others did?
@ninkza ignore him just ignore him.
@westman98 they better up production for October.
@PlywoodStick u r my favorite NLife user.
@Anti-Matter Don't apologize, no1 has the right to call u anything over such a silly thing like Nintendo not being on top or gaming tastes.
Seriously people, this is Nintendo job to worry about their sales. We don't need to worry about this. They have two choices deliver and win or not deliver and perish.
@rjejr If I get a Switch in time for Super Mario Odyssey I'll be happy
Like you though I wouldn't go mad in queuing for one.
@Jessica286
Eh... who is no1 ?
@Anti-Matter it means no one.
@Jessica286
@PlywoodStick hahahaha so cute!!!
