The Pokémon Company has completed its Pokémon Direct, and had a few surprises in its reveals. The only main series Pokémon games this year will be on the 3DS, with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon arriving on 17th November; it'll be a simultaneous global release.

It was revealed initially at the end of the trailer for Pokkén Tournament DX on Switch, which arrives on 22nd September.

Not a huge amount was said about the Ultra games - it's an alternate story from the original games, with new features and Pokémon to find. Ultimately it's pitched as the 'ultra' title, so expect to see that in the marketing.

It's an interesting move by The Pokémon Company. It's no surprise that the 3DS gets this year's releases, but the lack of a Switch version may disappoint some hoping to see the series step onto the latest hardware.
