Nintendo and clothing firm UNIQLO recently held a design competition to produce a range of shirts based on famous Nintendo properties. Over 16,000 entries were submitted, the best of which were hand-picked by none other than Shigeru Miyamoto himself. The overall winner was Takashi Kawazoe with his Super Mario-themed design.
UNIQLO has now confirmed the winners, and has also revealed that the full range will go on general sale from May 19th. 31 designs will be available for purchase in a range of Men's, Women's and Children's sizes - prices are £12.90 / $14.90 for Men and Women, £5.90 / $9.90 for Kids.
You can check out the full range here, but we've included some of our favourites below.

Wow, better quality then I thought. Might need a few of these!
Quite nice indeed. Where does one procure such apparel? Online only or will the haberdashery down the lane be stocking these distinguished wares?
Hm. Not sure I'd wear much if any if them but maybe the Splatoon one. I must not be in style.
ABC's Zelda and Splatoon. I want to like the Star Fox one, but I never played the SNES game
@Whopper744 Really, you're far geekier then I am! 😛
Most of these don't quite fit my tastes, but that dark blue Kirby one really catches my eye
Love the Splatoon one!
I like a lot of these. I'll probably get the Pikmin one and maybe one or two others.
That splatoon one is awesome! Gonna have to pick that one up!
I'm interested in that Pokemon shirt and the 5th one. They look pretty neat.
Still bummed out I wasn't able to buy a Monster Hunter Palico shirt. :/
Well then. All the ones I want are Kids size only. :I
That Animal Crossing shirt WILL BE MINE!
Dammit it's only in kids size 😭 😭 😭
Not surprised to see the 8-bit Mario one a the Splatoon one both got respectively 1st and 2nd place. Those are the two that I prefer in the lot, in that very order .
I had an idea for an Animal Crossing t-shirt with the villager holding a shovel, and one of the animals stuck in a pitfall seed behind them. I started it, but wasn't able to finish in time.
Ugh...Why is Animal Crossing in Kids size only??? I need that one for EDC Las Vegas (Electric Daisy Carnival)
These aren't very good except for the Splatoon one. Most are too busy with too small individual images to come across at all.
Don't really want to sound mean, but I will. That winning design is awful. Uninspired and lazy. Just took the common 8-bit image, scaled it up and rotated it. Absolutely lame. That Splatoon one was better but of course a Mario t-shirt had to be number one....
The winner is awful. The Splatoon one should have won. The rest are meh.
We need Metroid t-shirts lol
I want the splatoon and starfox one.
Maybe it sounds like sour grapes because I entered and didn't win, but I don't really like any of these. And the 1st place design in particular seems very uninspired. I was hoping there would be a few cool designs that I'd want to pick up, but sadly not...
I want the two Men's Pikachu ones, the Metroid one, and the first of the Donkey Kong ones.
@Shinnos
Mind sharing your design for us to see?
You've got me curious
@Desrever RIP, It's kid sized only. Unless, you're a kid, which you might be, who knows?
Love the pipe pocket and the Zelda cross section one that is only for kids
Also, the Donkey Kong with the stage wrapping around.
@PlanetaryNebulae That's too bad, I would've loved to see it!
@Nik-Davies I agree. It is somewhat cool, but not worthy enough. I would be better with 3rd for that one.
I want most of them. Also, thanks for getting these images NintendoLife! How did you get them big though? They're tiny on the website. There are a few more that I want to see in detail.
Even I could have made that Mario shirt and I'm a fool!
I like the Splatoon one and the Animal Crossing one, I don't think I would wear it even if it was my size but I like it.
The Splatoon one is my favorite!
Hm...
That Animal Crossing T-Shirt...
@LiberatedAnimal
If by haberdashery you mean Uniqlo outlet store, then yeah, they'll stock them. Otherwise, you're stuck shipping from the Uniqlo store.
Uniqlo sells specifically its own branded clothes. I've never seen their brand in other stores, but they're well-worth the purchase!
WHY IS THAT ANIMAL CROSSING ONE IN KIDS ONLY?!!? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Might have to pick up a few of these. Too bad most are kids only.
@OrigamiSquirtle Nah, I'm a grown ass man. Too big to wear it as a shirt, and too hairy to wear it as a crop top.
I guess I'll have to order an XXL kids size of all the kids shirts
That Samus helmet one is mine!
Having tried Uniqlo stuff I know even their largest size will be too tight for me as I like my shirts loose.
Also so many are borringly minimalist; love Metroid but that Samus one is so dull beyond belief. Was hoping one of my friend's designs would win. Maybe I'll get one of his Starfox shirts and add to the back "the design Nintendo thought wasn't good enough, so nyaa!"
And then there is the fact that they restrict sizes for men, women and kids. You can see from the comments that people would love designs not being "marketed" to the . And this is what it stinks of, sizes chosen by marketing smucks who probably think a C-stick is something found in the dodgy section of Ann Summers behind a velvet curtain.
I really want the Zelda one for kids, why is it only for children? Don't really understand why so selective in their sizing. Grumble, grumble...
All the ones I'd like are in kids sizes, grrrr.
@JaxonH I couldn't work out how to post images here, but here's a link to my blog: http://lookwhatidrawed.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/uniqlo-x-nintendo-global-t-shirt-design.html?m=1
I didn't really expect to win, especially with 16,000 entries! But I was just a bit underwhelmed by the designs that were chosen.
@Shinnos love your Starfox one that should of won without a doubt and as for me I won't be getting any of them what a letdown there t shirts are normally pretty good got some really nice mega man and monster Hunter ones from there
Like the Zelda one
@TipsySonic Cheers. I guess they have a certain style they were going for. I use to buy a lot of t-shirts from Uniqlo (including a cool Mega Man 8-bit design) but in recent years I haven't really seen any that have jumped out at me and dislike the increased number of shirts they have which include text or logos. But each to their own.
@Shinnos think you got the same mega man one I got haha black with him on the front and got 0 lives on the back at the top and I do agree the good ones are far and in between but worth keeping an eye on
@TipsySonic Yep, that's the one. Although mine is purple/pink, which looks cool in contrast to Megaman. Also got a cool Pacman design around the same time which was Purple with the Pacman game screen naze on the front.
That sounds pretty funky haha
Totally wish the Animal Crossing t-shirt was in adult size too, it's amazing!
Also the Mario caps and Pikmin t-shirts in women's only? Come on now.
That splatoon shirt is definitely best.
@Shinnos The Koopa Kids one is my favourite!
@Spoony_Tech No way man!
In truth though, I'm more into subtle references for this kind of thing myself, like the Splatoon fake company logos or whatever it may be. Not so much a big 8 bit Mario on my shirt (even with being a big Mario fan)
Stay Fresh!
One of each please!
Will definitely buy the Splatoon one. I wish they offered the same design on multiple coloured shirts. Not a fan of dark t-shirts, but I'd have bought the star fox one in a light grey.
Damnit, Uniqlo... why are the best designs for t-shirts always reserved for kids and ladies??? Something like 80% of my clothing comes from you, so you OWE me.
"Which one is your favorite"
NONE! (I did Not enter and I`m not one who ever gets envious)
@Shinnos Finally someone who`s with me!
I`m surprised Nintendo chose badly. I did not enter as I`m not even interested in design, naturally I was looking forward to them, but upon arriving to my local Uniqlo I thought "these are the shirts is that it...." they are just, bland, vague and uninspired, i`m disappointed ; the design ideas are just uuh! I would buy your Koopa kids one!
