In today's Nintendo Direct it was revealed that ARMS will be released in stores on 16th June. That's about when we expected it to be released, but it's great to get the final confirmation.
One of the biggest features in the upcoming fighting game is the ability to equip two types of customizable ARMS per fighter. These ARMS range from standard gloved ARMS to curved weapons like boomerangs. Each ARM has a special attribute like fire, ice or electricity that activates when delivering a charge punch.
As players fight through the game, they will earn in-game currency that can be used to play the ARM Getter, a fun mode in which they can get new ARMS for their fighters. The fast-paced game can be played in 1-v-1 matches or even 2-v-2 for more entertainingly chaotic battles.
During the Nintendo Direct presentation, a new character was also revealed: the super-fast, ramen-armed Min Min who can defect incoming attacks with a downward kick.
Neon Yellow Joy-Con were also revealed, which will be sold alongside the release of ARMS.
We have to say ARMS is looking much more like a fully fleshed out retail game now. Let us know if you are more excited to play it now with a comment below.

Not sure how I missed the 2 on 2 mode? Was that in the UK direct? I must be blind
I really liked the first footage. Seeing the new foorange makes me really want to buy the game
Aw....too bad.
Only Min Min introduced so far.
BTW, Yay...
16 June 2017, here i come !
This direct kinda sucked. A rehash mk8, multiplayer splatoon and a bunch of low budget mini games.
It's funny that the ARMS and Splatoon 2 segments were the most tedious parts of the presentation. I have no doubt that they will be fun to play in person (or with friends), but the footage presented here isn't exactly wowing me. Same can be said of games like Wii Sports. Super fun to play but a bore to watch unless you're somehow involved (whether directly or passively).
It was interesting and made me excited for the game. The new character was great and hope to see more of biff the announcer.
The Direct in my opinion was great and did a good job of keeping us informed until e3
Seems fun, but I'm still on the fence. What are the different modes?
I supported the kickstarter for Battle Chasers. Super stoked its coming to the Switch.
Not really feeling this game so far. Won't write it off completely, though!
I have to say that I'm very intrigued by combat as a whole. I really like the idea of mixing and matching different types of arms. That said, I hope there's more characters on the way. I like the design and aesthetics so far, but none of the characters really speak to me.
2 on 2 mode looks like it could be super chaotic.
I don't like when they show off entire fights though, somehow the commentator makes it sound more boring than it looks.
Arms is coming so soon! Right after e3 actually, which is just 60 days away or something like that
Looks interesting but I want more info about any single player modes.
Still not convined but min min looks like a nice character.
ARMS is later than I expected, but splatoon 2 is sooner, but most importantly they both look great. I'll pickup both.
This comes out the day before my birthday! I'm definitely looking forward to playing it, it looks great!
@sillygostly i felt this direct was trying to hard to be funny but just wasnt. Maybe due to the dissapointing lack of triple A game announcements.
This game's looking better after seeing more of it, but it's still not something I'm eager for. Maybe it's something where I'd wait for the price to drop before jumping in.
Finally, a well paced and a well produced Nintendo Direct, free of the terrible Japanese English of the past and that horrible, untalented British presenter.
I'm hyped to try out different arms.
Nintendo should have a bunch of arena areas set up at E3 for this, it's a good day to release. And then Splatoon 2 1 month later, which should also have arenas so good E3 presence.
I thought ARMS looked good. Not really for me, but for people who always wanted to jump in and fight in Pokken Tournament. And the variety of arenas was a whole lot better than the 1 in Mario Tennis Ultra Smash.
All i need is more characters and modes. Guess i'll get all that in E3.
I like how vast the different combinations that ARMS offers! It's looking pretty good so far but I feel that there's still a lot more about this game we don't know yet. Hope we find out soon.
The footage they showed for ARMS looked really good. I'm still not 100% sold on getting it day one, but as long as it builds up a good community, I'll probably get it eventually. The release date isn't bad either as it's right after E3. I just need to see more characters and single-player modes.
This game should be called Meh for real. I don't get how Nintendo expects to attract new audience with this
The whole interchangeable arms and the kick deflects are going to make for some fun mix ups. I just need to know how this works with my craptastic depth perception.
So happy to see that Switch is getting fighters.
$60 for this? Arms looks like a deep mini-game but a shallow standalone title.
Hopefully theres a demo because I just dont get the hype behind it.
I'm on board since day 1 reveal.
@telecaster24
Those triple A announcements crack me up. Priceless. 😄
MinMin looks fantastic in all regards, easily my main.
it's gonna be a brilliant year for the switch if odyssey isn't delayed
Still needs 2 to 4 more characters, IMO. I'm liking the arena variety more now. Great low-key reveal on those.
@feelinsupersonic
Indeed.
Launched with Zelda, One of the best video games ever released and my personal favorite of all time, and now we jump right into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (with a proper battle mode with new arenas and close to 50 tracks), now we have Arms and Splatoon 2 back to back, the all important Minecraft drops next month, and there's still so many other games like Ultra Street Fighter II and Rime, Redout and Disgaea 5, Sonic Mania and Forces, Fire Emblem Warriors and Xenoblade 2, Dragon Quest XI and Mario Odyssey and tons of great smaller games and RPG's finally rolling in...
And I'm betting we get even more announced at e3. It's definitely a quality year. I think a first-year this good would've been fantastic on Wii U, however, it wouldn't have been half is exciting because those games would've been restricted to console play. Every single game we get we're getting two versions and one... every single game listed there is a handheld version.
That's... awesome.
@Al_Godoy
MEH WHAT ?!
ARMS is a Spring Fighting with a bit of Street Fighter infusion and RPGish style.
It's also you say MEH to me and my avatar as a Boxing game fan.
Is it 2 vs 2 online though?
Although seriously, who designed Biff?
Looks exciting, I initially didn't care about the game but it looks very hard to put down in comparison to classic fighting games (tekken, street fighter, marvel vs capcom, etc) which get old since they are primarily combo based and don't quite have the depth of the arena style fighter.
Hoped it was coming in May but this isn't a surprise. Will be getting this game, every trailer makes it look better and better!
ARMS is looking like it's going to be very fun. Hoping we see more modes at E3.
I don't know how this game could support the Pro Controller. I want to play without motion controls.
This game officially jumped from absolutely no interest to something I would pick up on sale. Which is a huge jump on my scale of interest. The main issue is I don't see how it can jump higher.
I'm not a huge fighter fan. Most get boring to me rather quickly. The only fighting games I actually got very into were marvel vs Calvin, smash bros, and injustice. All three had in common that there was an insane roster of characters. I'm not sure if arms will have enough variety of characters for me to invest a lot of time into it.
It still at least looks like an actually game rather than a mini game that I felt should be a pack in. Let's hope that there is even more to the game.
So this became a summer release too? Whatever, I'm just waiting for some more local multiplayer titles for Switch and this looks promising.
Honestly, the Direct made me want to get the game less, but I'm not sure why. It was probably the presentation itself. It probably just isn't for me but I'm sure others will enjoy it!
Needs more content doe
@JaxonH can't understand people saying it's a weak launch line-up. what's a better line-up? maybe one could find the snes or 64 line-ups ever-so-slightly better, but that's about it. maybe halo can be in the conversation if you're really into that, i suppose.
what's even cooler is that the next zelda game could be like majora's, re-using most assets, and the 3d mario game is coming really on. so maybe there will be another one of each within 4 years.
the one idea i like and that nobody talks about is that every nintendo console from now on should launch with super mario player for free. just allow players to keep playing those millions of levels made on the wii u in those immortal art styles forever, and no one can ever complain about a lack of something to play at any given time. an old game, sure, but also an infinitely playable one.
Ah, June is so far away... I was hoping it would arrive earlier to help ease the pain of waiting for Splatoon :,[
That said, like the new char. The battle footage seemed too long to maintain high interest throughout, seemed like they increased the character's health bars by like x3. I hope the standard mode has lower default health to make for faster matches / action, and perhaps making health bars adjustable in the Options menu (normal, large, largest, etc, I know some other fighting games allow this).
I already can tell that I am going to put some hours in to Arms lol.
More characters have been spotted too. Though it's hard what to make of them.
Was hoping ARMS was gonna be something like Capcom's Power Stone but it isn't.
Not really sure about it now.
I didnt really get how you play it, like how the controls will work on this game so I am still on the fence.
Loved the SF2 preview though. That has shot right up my want list.
Not for me.
This game looks like oodles of fun! Min Min might be my go to character. I guess I will find this out when it launches!
Oh wow, that's way at the end of Spring. That's practically Summer, there! So basically, after the end of April restock, there's going to be... Uh... Minecraft in May... So a whole month of not much from Nintendo, then E3, then ARMS in the middle of June, then Spla2n near the end of July. Then for August, there's... Uh... Yeah, this momentum is really red light, green light. Nintendo is relying too much on ports and third parties again.
@telecaster24 Why do people keep setting themselves up to expect anything more?
That video sold it to me. I can taste the meat on its bones so to speak.
I was interested in this game before but not exactly excited. This new trailer has got me really looking forward to it. Looks like there's far more depth to the gameplay than it first appeared. I love a fighting game and this looks like a genuinely original one.
@PlywoodStick Yeah, I was expecting ARMS to be more like May. The big question for me is whether they deliver on the late year releases. Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade 2, Skyrim, Zelda DLC, and Super Mario Odyssey is a pretty big holiday even without a major E3 surprise. Splatoon 2 is coming earlier, though.
As for ARMS, I was pleasantly surprised. I think there is more to this than what it has been written off to be.
@Zingo @Luffymcduck @Nik-Davies
Can you play the 2 V 2 with all 4 people on the same Switch? Or does it require 2 Switches? Or does it require 4 Switches?
(I'm hoping only 1 is required, but that you can do 2 or 4 if you want)
@BlueKnight07
Empty May should have been expected. Otherwise we'd already have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
I'm really looking forward to this one! I wonder if the commentator will always be talking? He reminds of of the NBA Jam commentator.
To play this with a friend do I need 2 sets of joy cons?
