Earlier this week GameStop had additional Nintendo Switch stock in its US stores, but the units seems to fly off shelves almost as quickly as they arrived. Very much aware of the ongoing demand, Nintendo of America's social media team has sought to reassure those still waiting for a system.
Additional stock is currently being shipped, apparently, so we'll be keeping an eye out for retailer announcements.
Nintendo is already reported to be upping its manufacturing plans for the upcoming financial year, which begins on 1st April, so we're hopeful that additional stock will continue to flow over the course of the next couple of months.
Are you still hoping to pick up a Switch through one of these restocks?

So that's why Nintendo never has enough stock out!
To Mario and Luigi: Hurry !!
There are still 15,999,998 Nintendo Switch to be packaged ! XD
@Equinox "Nintendo could have easily made 2 million more available at launch and still sell out before the end of March."
This is the most maddening part about it, honestly. They totally could have. Just like they totally could have for NES Classic and amiibo.
Gamestop has gotten some stock in this week. Happy hunting!
Why is Mario just supervising? Pack some boxes!
@Tingle_The_Great
Yeah. The princess can wait! Get those Switches out to retail!
@Tingle_The_Great Yeah, they need to put Yoshi to work and hire some more Toad temp workers.
@Equinox You can and you should. Nintendo needs to learn to read the market better like everyone else does. They have supply issues with Amiibo and with NES Classic in recent memory because they don't know how to read the market.
Hype was through the roof for Amiibo's, NES Classic anfd the Switch, anyone could see that but Nintendo ignored it opening the doors for scalpers.
I feel sorry for you Americans. Here in Ireland we've an abundance of Switch console stock in all the different retailers.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Jealous, lol. My wife and I called and visited at least 20 stores in the last month, and still nothing.
We even had trouble tracking fown Breath of the Wild for Wii U. We only just found and bought the game last week.
This has been going on consistently since the Wii in NA and some would say the NES proved the console scarcity effect. Ask any game store employee if they love answering the phone a billion times when Nintendo launches anything.
I live in Ireland and i can tell you Switch is near impossible to find. Argos is probably the biggest retailer in Ireland selling video games is totally sold out.
I have a hard time believing anything Nintendo says anymore. Is there any logical reason, for instance, that the NES Classic Mini is still impossible to find in March? Nintendo continues to use artificial scarcity to make their products more desirable. If Apple and Samsung can make millions of much, much higher-tech smartphones available at launch and for months afterward, there's no reason that the NES Classic and Switch need to be this difficult to find.
They learned a lesson with Wii, one they tried to repeat with the Wii-U, that by keeping supply low they were guaranteed to sell out of every shipment. Good for their bottom line, but I think that it ultimately hurts their total unit sales. As others have said, some consumers just eventually give up.
I'd bet my last dollar that these shortages, despite Nintendo's (empty) promises, will continue through the end of the year and into 2018.
@NinChocolate LOL I remember Gamestop had to revise the first page of the "playbook" to remind employees to remain civil even if it is the 50th time you've heard someone calling about a Wii system because it could be the customer's first time calling. I hated the ups stalkers personally. Please don't come in and form a line to see me open shipment boxes...please don't ask me WHEN I'll get to my shipment boxes. So annoying.
I STILL have NOT seen an NES classic in the wild yet!! Unbelievable
I don't consider it "available" until you can walk into any Gamestop or log into amazon and simply get one. I seriously hope they keep up with production and make that a reality long before the holiday rush.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE No time like the present to get in the scalping business. Some NL-ers will thank you!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Send me one?
@Mart1ndo I've told you before to stop lying. I was in Gamestop and Smyths today and they have loads of Switch consoles. And lol at your Argos comment. Thoe of us from UK and Ireland know what I mean.
@subpopz probably Ireland only. Here in Belgium it's sold out, but new stock is expected next month. I've also read it's sold out in UK too at the moment.
@Equinox And the part I don't get is that even if the Switch failed to push more units than the Wii U, 4 million still would have sold over the lifetime of the system. Maybe they wanted the first batch to be smaller in case there were any defects so that they didn't get stuck with a larger number of those?
@NinChocolate A friend said that when he called yesterday, Gamestop employees were answering the phone with: "Gamestop, this is Jason. No we don't have any Switches in stock. How can I help you?"
I need a second Switch for my fiancé.
@Tingle_The_Great we have discover the root of the problem.
I just want to find a pro controller
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Out of curiosity, has Nintendo ever had a presence in Ireland?
Ordered my Switch and could have overnighted it for this weekend, but what's a couple more days...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Do you really think Smyth's sell more consoles than Argos?? I don't think so. I don't know about GameStop as I don't step foot in the place.
I'm not lying. Argos are sold out.
Interesting statement, especially considering Gamestop made a statement today saying they expect Switch shortages throughout the rest 2017....
News flash...
No switchers coming the boat has just sunk in the Pacific
@Mart1ndo Argos aren't sold out. Ya they don't have the stock like Gamestop or Smyths. And Argos aren't as big as those 2 for video games. Gamestop we all know they're a dedicated video game shop. All Smyths stores have a massive video game section. Remind me how big the video game section is in Argos?
@jwfurness I believe you I call Best Buy and the answer machine specifically stated no we don't have Switches and we don't know when more are coming. If you have any other question please hold the line.
Good news! I've been seeing them pop up online for MSRP, so that's cool for those who want them. If they can stay on top of the stock, they could have a big hit here.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE If what you're saying is true, take a picture of the units in each store to prove it to us.
No one would doubt you if you would actually back up your argument with evidence.
@Crono1973 I have to agree with @Equinox here. Both the NES Classic and Amiibos are cheap products that they should have produced more units. However, the Switch is by far their most expensive hardware to produce and although there was a lot of hype they must have been scared of the possibility of it being a repeat of the Wii U but this time even worse because, unlike with the Wii leading into Wii U, the console before the Switch was a total failure and thus consumer confidence in Nintendo hardware was not to be taken for granted.
@Jessica286 HILARIOUS
@Tarvaax I was in Gamestop and Smyths today. Never bothered to take any images. Gamestop keep the consoles out back but I know for a fact they have them, I asked the staff. No Neon units but loads of grey. Smyths have theirs on display, a couple of Neon and loads of grey. I shouldn't have to take photos. They're there and that's a fact. Other Irish members should easily back me up and not that other person who is clearly lying.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE without taking a picture your claims of loads of stock are baseless.
Walked into Target today at 10:35a and found one just sitting there all alone in the glass cabinet. Second one I scored this week. Now me and my son have one.
@Biffclaven No they're not.
I am in the States and was just able to grab a Switch today on Amazon.
I just went to Smyths Ireland web site, and over half the stores say the Grey Joycon Switch is in stock for pick-up or delivery.
Also checked the Neon's and they are even more available for pickup and delivery.
Every store has the Pro-Controller and they actually have them on sale for 5 Euro's off.
@subpopz
LOL, right!
throw a game in the box while you're at it, luigi
All those arguing about what's in stock and all. It has been going out worldwide and places will have them for a small amount of time. I mean I don't know how it is everywhere, but that's generally the case right now.
Amazon US had it for about 20 minutes today. GameStops got a bunch in a couple days back and held on to other stock for bundle orders (in the US). "No, we sold out 5 in the middle of the day, you can order and you'll get it in a week though (a bundle)".
Waited in line briefly at opening of a GameStop (helping someone out) and they said maybe later today, maybe tomorrow so I left and tracked things. It seems they had a strategic plan in place where all the GameStops in a wide area "got UPS truck shipments" exactly at noon. lol. Then, they all had the schtick for the upsell ready for phone calls. I think I'm done with GameStop forever. lol.
Well finally. Maybe I can actually get one before it's time to go back to school.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Why do you think Argos get the best PS4 deals. I've seen Argos selling; a ps4 console, a copy of Horizon zero dawn and an extra controller for 250euro. Never seen a deal that good in Smyth's.
Because Sony is Argos's best friend because Argos are shifting Sony consoles. I wouldn't think Smyth's sell more games than Argos.
Argos stock is not in public view so I don't know what you're on about.
@freaksloan
Did you try Argos?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Today i learned that Ireland has exactly two stores selling video game consoles.
@subpopz
I love your comments
It's sold out in England. I'm trying to get the wife one and it just ain't happening. Saw a Switch display box in a supermarket this morning. Took it to the counter where the salesperson sarcastically said "That's for display purposes, we don't actually have any!" Well thanks for that you moron.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm starting to wonder if you are looking at the empty promotional boxes for the Switch. I was at 2 Gamestops and they had their hooks with a bunch of Switch hardware and when i asked, they said that it's empty promotional boxes that they were required by Nintendo to have up. These boxes are exactly the same as the actual thing, so that might explain a lot.
This is insane, talking about the stock levels of Switch in Ireland. The reason I'm saying this is because I feel SLIGEACH_EIRE is trying to give the impression that Switch is doing really bad in Ireland and it's not.
It's ridiculous talking about stock levels.
Smyths uk got restocked. Next stock is 31 march
imgurl
In fairness to @SLIGEACH_EIRE the ROI Smyths site does show a number of stores with click and collect available. The rest of the UK is empty. Might get a cheap flight and surprise the Mrs. Then again lots of places are claiming they'll be restocked next week.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Post visual proof for confirmation. On the internet your "word" is about as solid as water. Nothing is fact without evidence. Time to present yours or bite your tongue.
Check your local retailers they said for more info. I call 3 stores and they all say the same "none in stock" and when I ask when they will get more "we don't know when". Does that sound like progress?!
@Tarvaax Or how about you visit some some Irish websites and check for yourself since you are the one doubting him.As pointed out by someone above,Smith's have click and collect available so clearly they do have stock,
The problem in the USA is all the switch flippers. people that buy out all the stock and resell it on ebay
@Tarvaax i'll happily give you in stock pictures from the UK, for starters Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-UK-NSHEHWNIN45229-Switch-Grey/dp/B01MFADJFV
How on earth can a "used" Switch be ÂŁ314.99 when a new Switch is ÂŁ279.99, i don't get it? Look at the link above.
Wow one is charging ÂŁ600 rip-off pigs whats wrong with people "don't buy it", page 2 link here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B01MFADJFV/ref=olp_page_1?ie=UTF8&f_new=true
Lol instead of worrying if there are switch stocks available. Ask yourselves WHY there are stocks available,by all calculations and info there shouldn't be any available anywhere,so Why are they available especially when it's region free,surely ppl would have snapped them up by now no matter where you are from or maybe it's just not the life changer many ppl seem to think it is. Anyways who cares if it's sold out or not,it's no big deal. There are better things in life than wondering if products sell or not no matter what the product is.. . Edit just want to get this new information in. Minecraft story mode will be $10 more expensive than other versions,it's been officially announced
Don't you have like eight million Toads who could do that?
This is what I love about Nintendo: Luigi.
I want that costume AND I want another YEAR OF LUIGI!!!!
@jwfurness Nope. It has everything to do with storage cost. Still, by only gauging people interest, pre-orders and the such, they could have avoid all this drama.
Still no word on the NES classic.
@Crono1973 took me 2 months to get a xbone and ps4 after launch. So your comment really has no point
I have it on pretty good authority that the next restock may be the last of the initial production run, meaning that most retailers aren't able to order anymore switches besides the units currently on the way. Regardless of nintendos verbatim, I think it's clear that they only prepared for a soft launch. I also believe that even though retailers can't order more at the moment, that Nintendo will probably be producing enough consoles to release during the splatoon 2 launch, so basically those who haven't gotten one yet, have about 3 weeks before an indefinite waiting period begins.
@ballistic90 No, I said that I asked the staff and they've loads.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Once again they attack you when you speak the truth. They are Switches in ROI. There are online in stock.
There are Switches in some Argos stores in the UK. You can click and collect.
I believe it is in the US (maybe Japan) where shortages will be around for a long time.
@Crono1973
Business is about being able to react to demand. Sometimes the demand is too great or production materials too low.
In this case I think Nintendo can do better. Sony and MS sold a lot more consoles to a greater market and the demand was global.
However, it always makes sense to roll out with a reasonable number in case of any unforeseen problems. Take the Joy Cons.
@NintySnesMan
Why would anyone want to pay high international shipping when you can just go to a local business and support them for less.
@Hotfusion Yes thanks. People almost take it as a personal insult that I say that it's not sold out everywhere. Yes it's doing well thus far, I'm not saying it's not sold out in the US and elsewhere. I'm just giving people the facts about what is happening in my country.
@GameOtaku
True but for some ppl money isn't a problem if they have plenty of it or they just can't wait to have a latest product,got to have it now mentality.. But your missing my point,if a product is so hot and supposedly flying of shelfs faster than superman could re-stock them,then how come this hot product isn't so hot as we are led to believe by retail spin,yes it sold loads in most places but by all accounts stock is still available in ROI and other places no doubt
This is one to believe unlike the NES. That system is a mess to find, but it's also a low profit closed system with no up sell on it. Switch that is all about the licensed games, downloads, parts and more parts, it's a cash cow. If anyone is foolish enough to think they won't restock this properly needs their heads examine, or maybe a huge pile of painkillers to stave off that existing butthurt.
@NintySnesMan
Just like how the ps4 and xbone never got out of stock in my area, Nintendo carries a high brand name compared to the other 2 in most areas. So while it may be out of stock in one and not the other has to do more with popularity.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Look, bub. I'm not harping on you because I have something against you or because of some bias-fueled witch hunt. I have no invested interest in the Switch's performance either way. I'm harping on you because you claimed your word was fact without presenting concrete evidence to support your claims. I'm not saying you're wrong, you may very well be right and that's perfectly fine. I'm just trying to tell you that if you want to shut people up and put them back in their place, all you need is to take a cell phone picture next time. No one can argue against legitimate evidence.
The only problem I have is that you're arguing with people, saying they're completely wrong based on a few local stores in your area, and even then you don't present evidence. It's not your claims that bug me, it's what you're using the claims for. The agenda behind them, if you will.
@GameOtaku
Tbh mate I don't care one bit if it's in or out off stock,or if it's popular or not. If you read my first comment it says there are better things in life than worrying if a product is in stock or not. Let me be completely honest with u. I don't care if Ninty failed with switch,reason why,for the same reason I don't care if Sony failed with vita or any machine they will make in the future. I have more in my life than just gaming,it's not a priority for me,I don't eat drink sleep gaming like many ppl on here. Having said that,I do like certain Ninty and Sony games,it's just that I don't fanboy either company,I prefer to fanboy my wife instead.. I only posted my first comment because there were ppl arguing about stock and I just wanted to point out that it's not a issue basically and it don't matter I think I will just stay out of it Bro and leave it to those that have more knowledge about this article
@Tarvaax I don't need to take photos. My word should be good enough. I'm not talking about a few local stores. It's available nationwide. Oh and I still haven't seen an ad on TV.
I dont have any plans to buy a Switch yet but PLEASE Nintendo- have them available for Black Friday and the holiday season 2017. I really, really want to play Splatoon, Mario and co. with my kids on Christmas morning. In the meantime, Im slowly buying games and accessories for it (got Zelda, a hori stand, screen protectors already). I love Nint. but Im gonna be really ticked if there are switch shortages come Christmas.
Really all they have to do is just produce more. Have the factory work overtime 7 days a week. I've had to do that before to get products out to customers so if there's a shortage it really should not last long. I mean come on what is the switch really a glorified iPad mini with joycons. I hate to be so blunt but with automation and a good workforce there's no reason not to keep stock.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I know Ireland is a small country but most of us doubt your ability to go through every store and visually check as it seems you are claiming you have. People in different parts of the country are just saying stock is different where they are. If it is available nationwide, take some pictures nationwide. Put up or shut up.
As for not seeing an ad on TV, well how much TV do you watch? And what type of programming? Both of those are going to affect whether or not you see a Nintendo ad. I've seen 'em. Of course I'm in the States but if I've seen them, who watches less than an hour of TV a week, they are running them.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Your word also enthusiastically accepted a comparison between owning a Wii U and being the victim of domestic violence. For what that's worth.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
You know, my country Indonesia DIDN'T Even have any Nintendo Switch Advertising whatsoever, But peoples already knew about Switch. The demand of Switch is somewhat surprising high in my place. The stock is still quite enough.
Even in your place lack of Switch Ad, if you have a strong Will, you still can afford to buy one. And even if your local store already have at least One Nintendo Switch, Will you buy it ? Or you will keep trolling How Useless Nintendo Switch compared with your Wii U , Refuse to buy ?
@subpopz
I see that your not allowed address a certain individual. Unless you apologise sincerely and it's accepted? For what it's worth I found your comments very entertaining. I feel like we're being "Scammed".
@TheLobster "Put up or shut up."
https://www.gamestop.ie/StoreLocator/Index?productId=51568&variantType=New
http://checksmyths.com/StockCheckPage.php?productId=157569
I've put up, now take your own advice and well you know the rest.
"If it is available nationwide, take some pictures nationwide."
Your post is complete nonsense. You expect me to travel the country taking photos nationwide just to prove to trolls and doubting Thomas' that the Switch is readily available here? Get real! You wanted proof, you've got your proof.
@BiasedSonyFan because there's other people in the world? People that actually want Switches and can't get them.
Oh, and the fact that Nintendo just keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over again. That's pretty maddening.
Looks more like Luigi is doing all the work, and Mario is a lazy bum who's letting it rip after spending the whole day eating bean burritos.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I notice you didn't reply about what sort of TV you watch. As for those links, I would say that is "regional availability" not quite nationwide. The whole east seems to be sold out, for example. Since Ireland is a small country though, I can't imagine it's hard to get in a car and drive elsewhere, though to my understanding you lot don't drive as much as us Americans.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I like the way you left Argos out.
@Mart1ndo I like the way you've been proven wrong AGAIN.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I have not been proven wrong. I actually did go into GameStop in Navan a few months ago. I was looking for a brand new PS3 console as a spare. Their site clearly showed they had it in stock in Navan. I think it was the only store in Ireland that the site showed had it in stock.
In i went, not a word about it. They had none in stock. Moral of the story; GameStop website is not to be trusted or them either.
@JHDK Well, keep making excuses for them and things will continue as they have. Everyone else could see the hype for the Switch (and the NES Classic) except Nintendo because apparently market research is too hard for them.
This is so weird, I'm in Canada and I have yet to see an empty shelf at any store I've been aince it's second week
@BiasedSonyFan i really don't know why I even reply to you. It's really the most wasted of conversation ever.
DAMMIT DID IT AGAIN.
