Tomorrow, European and North American gamers will finally get to see what all the fuss is about regarding the Nintendo Switch, but Japanese gamers will be breaking open their consoles hours earlier due to the fact that Japan Standard Time is ahead of both European time and EST.
Japan-based writer Jon Cousins has been documenting Japan's preparations for the launch via Twitter, and his images show the flurry of activity taking place in retail outlets as they furiously swap around display units to make way for Switch games and accessories (look at all those screen protectors).
We haven't got long to wait now, but it's not hard to feel a pang of jealousy when you consider that in Nintendo's homeland, Switch launch day is closer than ever.

Japan always gets things first, even on release day. 8(
"Not long now" that's what the mouse said when he caught his tail in the door. 😊
I'm more excited for zelda than the switch 😱😂 I love the wiiu😏 Till Mario or metroid comes out that's when I'll purchase a switch. I'm sure I'll love playing the switch also
My Switch, pre-ordered the Official Nintendo UK Site, still has not even been dispatched, they only took the money today. Well looks like I'm not getting mine until next week now. I have received my case and charging grip, ordered 20 days after my pre-order
USELESS!!
I'll be getting mine tomorrow morning at 8am.
I was going to the midnight launch tonight here in Australia but I have 2 kids and they come in at 5am regardless of whether dad's been to a midnight launch or not.
Less than 12 hours to go!
@Bunkerneath
I think everyone, including myself has the same...it still says to be dispatched on the 3rd - I ordered it the second pre-orders were available dam it
brace yourself!
a new console is launching. always an exciting time for every gamer
@Malanta
I'm in the same boat 😔 Not happy about it 😡 Definitely not gonna preorder another console with them.
Midnight collection here I come!!!!
Not just Japan, one of the stores I usually visit had already a Switch's arch posted at the entrance of the games' area X3
Gotta admit, by logic I still believe it's wiser for me to buy the Switch later on, but all this hype is really making me doubt my plans XD
Less than 14hours to go. When I leave the house this afternoon, I won't be returning until I have it 😁
@Bunkerneath Yours will get shipped today. I was in the same situation. Mine changed to dispatched around 15 minutes ago
Believe it or not, but Australia's Time Zone is actually 2 hours ahead of Japan, so we'll be getting it first here.
@Moms-Meowth Mine hasn't changed to dispatched yet and says 'standard delivery'. I thought they used couriers? Sweating now
@Malanta I pre-ordered mine straight after the presentation in January
@Moms-Meowth Mine still says "Awaiting Dispatch"
COME ON NINTENDO SORT IT OUT!
Looks like a decent display. Japan seems to do well with launches.
@CTMike Hmm they should do. Mine says Yodel
Good luck to you early adopters. I hope this console turns out well. We don't need another repeat of the Wii U.
Why does everything video game related just look better in Japan than anywhere else? Not sure if I just have rose tinted specs on from the glory days of 90's Super Famicom Box Art
Oh, my heaven...
Can't stop my eyes on Nintendo Switch.
U guys make the wait soooo hard
According to amazon I will be receiving my Neon Switch and the Pro controller tomorrow (Friday); sadly my BotW Ltd edition, 1-2-Switch, the joy-con charging grip and the BotW-amiibos are all scheduled to arrive between March 7 and 8 only.
2 hours and 16 minutes for Adelaide, Australia....
It must be midnight in New Zealand already.
What's up with that godawful quality on the TV?
@Moms-Meowth
Hi can I just ask if it's being shipped for next day deliver or not?
Mine still says processing so I'm worried even if the do despatch it I won't get it till Monday
Get the feeling my local stores in the US won't look that stocked.
@Ethan_Bricknell
Pretty sure Japan is one hour ahead. You must be mistaken.
🙃
@Fandabidozi Maybe 2 hours ahead of Perth, but I think 2 hours behind the eastern seaboard of Melbourne and Sydney due to DST (Brisbane doesn't believe in modern things like daylight savings)
In Central Australia DST I only have now 1 hour left!!! In the (modern) eastern states only half an hour.
@Fandabidozi Japan is 9:30 pm, exactly 2 hours behind Melbourne and Sydney.
@Great_Gonzalez Mine says next day delivery plus Saturday if i ordered on a Thursday so to speak
I've been a little unsure about this so far, but I'm assuming the Switch will be using the same eShop cards, or at least they'll be compatible with the Switch? So let's say I get a $20 card, but the card advertises it only works with 3DS and Wii U since it was initially produced for those systems, will it be compatible with the Switch as well?
@MadAdam81
I was being facetious. 😁
It's 8.45pm here and 9.45pm in Japan.
Are you getting a WiiU? If so have a blast it looks amazing!
Mine (Denmark, aka european time) has jus been notified Packages and ready to send! ... Guess I'll have to stay home tomorrow and "finish assignments" while i wait......
@Moms-Meowth
Okay thanks for answering 😀
I want to see pictures of people lining up in front of the stores for the launch
It is now March 3rd in Japan!
https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/japan/tokyo
@Bunkerneath I'm sorry that happen to yoy
@Bunkerneath @Great_Gonzalez
Now got the dispatch email - sending next day delivery and will be arriving tomorrow!
@Malanta
Me too 😀 Happy days all round 😀
This launch feels so different than WiiU launch.....it was exciting...a new Nintendo is always exciting. But WiiU felt like "oh, it's here", and then I remmember the articles about Nintendo formally advising parents to OPEN THE SYSTEM and set it up to patch it before wrapping it for kids on Christmas...... Should have been quite the omen: "don't give your kids new things, make sure you open and mangle all the packaging and release the "new car smell" before wrapping!
This time feels like genuine hype.
Surprised to not see any hand drawn signs featuring the Switch puppy, considering how much the japanese love anthropomophising things.
@Great_Gonzalez
Although it now says its been dispatched and my delivery estimate is 7-8th of march..................
@Malanta
Uh oh! I hope it arrives for you tomorrow!
The hype is real!
I'm off out now... In roughly 6 hours, I will own my own Switch! HYPE!!!
Have fun everybody!
