Mario Sports Superstars is out in March, arriving on the 24th in North America and the 10th in PAL territories; releasing one week after the Switch in Europe couldn't possibly go wrong, right?
With Europe leading the way on release the region is getting some neat videos showcasing the game's events, and the sneak peaks certainly suggest that each one will have a pleasing amount of depth. The latest video showcases football / soccer / soccerball / roundball kicking, and demonstrates how you can even adjust formations. If Nintendo releases a trailer in which Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho face off in this game, then this writer could die happy.
It's looking like solid fun so far, even if aspects of its amiibo features may annoy long term Camelot sports game fans.
Is this one on your 3DS wishlist?

"releasing one week after the Switch in Europe couldn't possibly go wrong, right?"
US gets 1 million Switch at launch.
Japan gets 1 million Switch at launch.
Leaving the EU with Mario Sports Superstars.
Problem solved.
Nice trailer.
But unfortunately...
I don't like football AT ALL.
Zero interest with that lame sport.
Sorry with my opinion, guys.
You should just call it football. Don't be accommodating the Americans with their "soccer". They can't even spell properly.
Which is it?! American Football or Soccer? I'm not one for sports titles but a Nintendo Football game sounds interesting, Touchdown!
I was excited a week ago when I saw football, now I'm not.... loved strikers though, but a Nintendo blitz would be sweet
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm Canadian and while I agree with you, I don't mind pandering to the Yankees if it means we get another football title in North America!
(Still not over missing out on Pocket Football Club)
But anyway, this looks good enough. Seeing as it's only the third fully-fledged football/soccer franchise (not counting Inazuma Eleven) to hit NA on the 3DS, I might bite even though those amiibo cards make me hesitate. And the special shots too, but I assume those can be turned off.
I am excited about Mario Sports Superstars. Have to copies pre-ordered through Amazon.
Switch not so much.
You would think the commercial would have more goal scoring rather than blocked/missed shots xD.
I don't get why this isn't a dual release (3DS/Wii U). I'd like to play this...
Why is it so early in Europe?
This seems like a fun pick up. Golf, tennis baseball and footie? Could this not get released for the Switch?
Wow, this looks surprisingly in depth. If all 5 sports are this good, I'll get down (previously decided to skip it but, nah I think I'll grab this)
No basketball no buy. I'm sorry but the game I played the most in Mario sport mix was basketball, and Mario hoops 3 on 3 was an incredibly fun title (IMO it was better than Mario strikers)
@ZurapiiYohane64 @SLIGEACH_EIRE "Soccer" is a British term which developed because historically "football" referred to multiple sports and in general meant "whichever variety of football is played locally," which is in line with the fundamental linguistic principle that words mean what the local community uses them to mean (and are spelled the way the local community spells them). The two primary varieties were association football and Rugby football, and "soccer" would occasionally be used when the more general term might be ambiguous. After America developed its own version of football it needed a term for the association game, and adopted the British term it uses today.
Also it has been suggested that "football" originally referred to the game being played on foot and not on horse, i. e. a peasant game, not noble. Which would be ironic, because all modern forms of the game, Rugby, association, American, etc., developed in private schools. Like Rugby.
already have this on pre-order, cant wait
I am really excited about this title. When was the last time there was a good baseball game on any Nintendo system? Super Mario Sluggers for the Wii. There hasn't been anything decent at all on the 3DS, nor on the DS. At least not in the States.
switch version please.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE its funny that annoys you as over here in eire, football can be a different sport to soccer and american football.
Does anyone know yet how many courses will be included on the golf part of the game.
@Anti-Matter football is lame. The worst sport to play and watch ever. Main reason I hate EA always open with FIFA to test the water when all I want them to release is NHL.
HOWEVER. Mario Strikers is actually a great game
This game seems alright. Always had a sweet spot for Mario sports titles (would love to see a Strikers 3 sometime!) but with such a release date - Nope, not on day one anyway.
Mario snooker, pretty please?
@Elanczewski Wouldn't be as good as MonkeyBall Pool!!
sigh This could have been a perfect launch title for the Switch. It could have been like Wii Sports minus the stigma that has since been associated with the "Wii" brand (and Nintendo will no longer be able to retain the "Wii Sports" brand if they were to produce a sequel at some point). And imagine if it had been a pack-in title... it would have flown off shelves.
Crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy Nintendo.
I'm gonna be waaaaay too occupied with the Switch to pick this one up, although I simply LOVE the mario sports titles. Super Sluggers, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Strikers/Strikers Charged, you name it.
@sillygostly @Jamotello I never thought of that... you are so right. They TOTALLY should have put this with the Switch...
Sometimes I just don't understand Nintendo...
This reminded me how much fun I had with Mario Strikers, though it looks a lot less dedicated to the Football/soccer aspect of the game.
100% will get this! Love Mario Sports/party games more than the platformers.
I like the look of those diving headers...
Hopefully this game is a warm-up title for something similar on Switch asap. Nintendo needs to max out on the 2-player simple gameplay fun possibilities that Switch offers.
@Captain_Gonru Probably EA said - If you want FIFA, no other soccer game on Switch.
The real question is - Why is Pikmin on 3DS and where's the Pikmin 4 game Miyamoto said was close to done in July 2015? B/c if that is the game he was referring to somebody owes us all an apology. grr
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-07-20-pikmin-4-in-development-and-very-close-to-completion
@SLIGEACH_EIRE "You should just call it football. Don't be accommodating the Americans with their "soccer"."
Just curious if you made that comment before or after watching the video? 10 seconds into the video "AMAZING SOCCER". Would be pretty stupid for them to call it football in the article when it clearly states soccer in the game. If it said AMAZING FOOTBALL in the game I would agree with you.
Looking good so far! Happy to see they're not forgetting 3DS owners, although I wouldn't mind a Switch version as well.
@rjejr Perhaps Nintendo is waiting for E3 to surprise us with a bunch of games?😉
@Captain_Gonru "Wiimote-style"
The "style" I can see, has there been any word on Wiimote support on Switch? Seems like they want to drop the past to sell $50 and $80 Joycons for all of their multiplayer games. Original Pikmin was on Gamecube so you don't need Wiimote. I'm pretty sure on Wii U I played 3 only w/ the Gamepad in my hands. My kids played in "tabletop" mode using the Gamepad for a map and the Wiimote.
But I am pretty upset about Miyamoto saying "Pikmin 4 is nearly complete", then they announce Pikmin 3DS, adnnnobody will answer the simple question - "Is Pikmin 3DS Pikmin 4?" #justtellus
@Order2Chaos "Perhaps Nintendo is waiting for E3 to surprise us with a bunch of games?"
I think they are, been saying that for a few weeks now as it looks to me like they are in a rush to get all of their 3DS games out before then - DV8, Poochy & Yoshi, Mario Sports, Pikmin - then E3 can be all about Switch. I'm hoping for some big sequels - Luigi's Mansion 3, Kid Icarus Uprising 2, Pikmin 4, and I know people are waiting for Metroid and F Zero and a proper Animal Crossing game. E3 should be great for them this year. If not, well that's not good, Mario alone won't carry the holiday.
@dcstud I wouldn't even go that far. Super Sluggers isn't all that great. Now "Nicktoons MLB" on Wii is pretty good, and "Mario Superstar Baseball" on GameCube is excellent. Of course, baseball in "Wii Sports Club" is pretty fun when you're in a more casual mood.
However, if you want a good true MLB licensed baseball sim on a Nintendo system, I'm afraid you'll have to go all the way back to "MVP Baseball 2005" on GameCube.
I'm getting this JUST for baseball.
@Captain_Gonru I've been ranting about Pikmin 4 since that 3DS reveal and I I've had 1 person tell me Nitneod said that wasn't it, and a few people tell me it wasn't it b/c Miyaomot actually said Pikmin "4" and this is simply Pikmin 3DS, and a few people agree w/ me and think Pikmin 3DS is Pikmin 4. As far as anything actually known out of Nintnedo HQ, I don't think so.
Everybodys favorite rumour monger said Pikmin 4 on Switch this year back in Nov 2016 but that's all I got.
https://www.gamnesia.com/news/rumor-nintendo-switch-will-get-pokemon-pikmin-4-a-new-ip-and-a-retro-studio
I'm 50-50, who knows.
I didn't like the idea but it looks pretty fun.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It is also called soccer in Japan.
Oh no, they said football/soccer. Now there's going to be fights in the comment section isn't there?
The characters seem to snap in place when they move directions, like a 1994 game...
Call the sport whatever the **** you want. Honestly, such a stupid "debate".
Game looks decent, should be fun.
This is the route Nintendo should go if they can't pack out individual sports game then makes this a series pack in all the sports they got good ideas for but can't make a full game out of them a Switch version would be welcome.
@rjejr First off, I don't think Nintendo is very much in trouble with their current line-up -especially if Xenoblade 2 releases this year- but I was expecting larger third party support. That sign of fait would've made it more convincing. Although i'll have enough to play throughout the year.
Man, that's an excellent list! I'd be beside myself with happiness if we got that in the Switch's lifespan.
I hope they've got a few games still up their sleeve as well for E3. A new IP by Retro would but awesome, but I could live with a new Metroid game.😜 Perhaps a glimpse of Pokémon Stars or Pikmin.
A new Waverace would be a dream come true -it won't happen, but a man can dream right?
@Order2Chaos Waverace on the Switch could be pretty cool, and they could add in a first person view for people who like that sort of thing, and gyro controls. They'll probably make a board game instead where you move your jetski the number of spaces based on a touchscreen spinner.
BTW I typed DV8 before but I meant DQ8 - Dragon Quest 8. I have no idea how I got a V for a Q they're no where near each other on the keyboard.
If they did an mma or pro wrestling mario game then I'm all in.
Haha what a horrible thing to imagine! 😱
HD rumble could be perfect for this game.. gyro and first person view sound really good as well.
I had a sneaky suspicion you meant that.😉
PS: sorry about the late reply.
