Wii U Virtual Console
F-Zero X (Nintendo, $9.99) - Late last year this arrived in Europe and was rather iffy on Wii U, but thankfully a nasty analogue deadzone issue was largely fixed in an update. Hopefully that means day one retro racing fun for Wii U owners in North America - our own Anthony Dickens still maintains that this game is the best thing since sliced bread.
3DS eShop
Shift DX (Choice Publishing, $4.99) - This series, known for its key concept of being able to "shift" the playing field to a different angle and therefore tackle puzzles in an interesting way, has spawned many sequels across PC and IOS. This iteration includes all the levels from the first two games and 100 more stages besides, so there'll be plenty to tackle; we'll get stuck in for a review.
As always Nintendo of America wants you to check out the official sales and deals website for eShop discounts; confirmed offers this week include Rubik's Cube, Tadpole Treble and Buddy & Me: Dream Edition.

Nintendo can have all my money this week. Not for these silly games but I will pay whatever they ask to preorder the switch.

Don't need a ton when I get F Zero. Plus, they for whatever reason have decided to finally release the N64 games that Japan and Europe got a long time ago over here all within a few weeks of each other anyway.
I think it's a slow week b/c they are going to release the Zelda BotW U demo after the presentation tonight.
It's the least they can do for us Wii U owners waiting through 2 years of delays for the game while they port it to Switch.
@Pahvi I spent an age doing a list for the festive discounts, but the Ninty offers page is a bit naff as it's hard to tell which discounts are new and carrying over. It's certainly worth firing up the eShop once a week to see what's on the go, and besides you get My Nintendo points for that

@Slim1999 A patch for the PAL release doesn't necessarily mean the NA release will have the same thing out of the gate. Hopefully it will, but I don't know how well the North American and European branches communicate with each other.
@Slim1999 is the company only 2 guys wiping the sweat off their brows to get some presentation finished in time? Does Nintendo have an incredible amount of money? This miniscule drop of two games is not the only reason the company is terrible but just one of countless reasons why. I really wish Nintendo fans when scream loudly at their faults and help them get on track to become a strong, customer supporting, video game company like they once were. Instead it's excuses or wait and see, or they are busy or some other deflection. The fact is they are a terrible company that think they can still dictate this industry when their own head in the clouds mentality has lost them massive amounts of players and respect in the industry. But I'm just a hater used to be a fan. I'm pretty common though. I only want these guys to get back to be a real contender.

I thought 10k the new Word Search game by the makers of Epic Word Search series was being released today.
It's understandable that they release two games only, as Nintendo is preparing for the big Switch event, which will go live in about 12 hours.

@Azooooz That's what I was thinking. Perhaps they could've released more, but given that the major event is happening later tonight/tomorow, I'm sure Nintendo has some stuff up their sleeves.
On top of that, I know for sure I'm not gonna spend too much on VC and eShop games when, A) Switch preorders likely open tomorrow, and B) I wanna hear their gameplan for content transfer, first.

That would be so freaking awesome!!!. That would help the wounds created by delays, but I highly doubt we would be so fortunate. I wouldn't say they might not add a demo in about a month though to try and add more hype.

Well who knows, maybe tonight as a thank you for our support for Wii U, they'll put up Super Smash Bros 64 as a farewell gift and at a discounted price.....
I'm guessing some stuff will be added during or shortly after the Switch announcements. If the Mother 3 rumor is true, they'll probably announce Beginnings for 3DS VC and have sales on Wii U. Something like that. A sale could be a good advertisement for that sort of thing.

@SavageGM Always an excuse. 'Oh, they are releasing nothing new because they are preparing for the next console' was a common thing to hear during the last year or two of the Wii's life. How did that turn out? Instead of learning from that stupidity people are saying it all over again. Nintendo of America has been so pathetic in regards to the Virtual Console for the Wii U that one has to wonder if Nintendo is even interested in selling retro games to us at all. The NES Classic is another example. I had a disagreement with a Gamestop clerk the other day who was ok with Nintendo severely underproducing the NES Classic because he said it was a novelty item. Nintendo clearly doesn't listen to consumers because it was no secret that many people wanted an NES Classic from the time it was announced.
I wish I could ignore all this and go play a PS4 or an Xbox One like many others do but sadly, nothing on those consoles is interesting to me. Atleast Sony has plenty of sales and doesn't mind producing enough product for those who want it. Can't speak for Microsoft as I just don't know.
@Crono1973 The deal with Sony, at least as far as the Vita, is that there is not a successor- so indies and a few of the "major" developers are still making stuff for it.

It seems as tho Nintendo wants you to spend all your money on the Switch. Can't find the NES Classic anywhere. Ditto that for the Wii U and 3ds. Very little in terms of new releases.
Small selection, but as I had F-Zero X on Wii VC, I will definitely be upgrading to the Wii U VC version today. Aside from that can't wait for tonight's broadcast in a mere 10 hours.

@zionich I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel the Wii U version of Zelda. There are no Wii U's in stock at my local Wal Mart and there haven't been for weeks. Have they discontinued it completely? It seems like they are about as done with the Wii U as they can be.

Nintendo launched a January Digital Deals lineup on the aforementioned eShop deals page that features a number of first and third party and indie games. Sale lasts for two weeks.

@Crono1973 Yes,Nintendo no longer makes Wii U's.They still make 3DS but they're still sold out from Christmas.
F-Zero should have been available a long time ago along with other Nintendo games. I'm not sure Nintendo knows what it's doing anymore.
@TruenoGT Better be prepared for the drip feed again because I HIGHLY doubt that nintendo will change much about the VC on the Switch if anything at all

The sad thing about that is there will not be enough Switches at launch. Im all ready worried about not being able to get a pre order. If Nintendo is going to go all in, they should in a bigger way. It is funny, to sit back and look at myself wanting a gaming machine real bad when there are much bigger problems in the world. Ah well, I love playing games.

This just looks so bad. How can N expect excitement for a new console when the old one has been ignored for about a year or more. Ive seen this repeated several times now. I just saw what happened with the Wiiu and its short life span. Why should I think the switch will change anything?

@Captain_Gonru The game releases in 7 weeks and I'm still not sure if it has a map static on the pause menu. 7 weeks and so little info. And w/ all the Switch coverage the Wii U version will be swept under the rug. Not sure we'll get it day 1, Horizon Zero Dawn releases 3 days earlier and I bought a PS4 for that. And those games are WAY yo similar to play back-to-back, I'll need 6 months between them at least. So maybe we wait for the Switch version after all. I know no Switch until Christmas.
