Pokémon Sun and Moon has been Nintendo's biggest launch this year, and in some respects its most successful ever; when the games dropped various events were held in different countries, with Nintendo's subsidiaries going big on the launch.
Nintendo UK, for its part, hosted an event in London where fans could get hold of the game a little early, and Pokémon Game Designer & Battle Director Shigeki Morimoto was also in attendance. A fun event from the evening was a look at the Battle Royal mode, and in this case Morimoto-san took on attendees from Eurogamer, Yogscast and, in a rather cool moment, our own video man Alex Olney.
Have a gawk at it below.
Alex wore the Pikachu hat, which makes him a winner in anyone's eyes, surely.

I'm not really into Pokémon, so when I saw the name Shigeki Morimoto I honestly thought it was just a parody of Shigeru Miyamoto... Please forgive me😓
@Pluto14 that was my exact response to it too. I was thinking maybe he is Shigeru's apprentice and will continue his work after he is gone.
@SlayerG @Pluto14
I thought it WAS Miyamoto until I read it closer
Alex- I choose you!
I'm not surprised that Morimoto-san won at all... he must know the game like the back of his hand!
I was waiting for him to use Explosion the whole time he had Minior.
Wished I could fight someone from Nintendo and see how badly I would fail against them. (....besides Reggie, lol)
Alex was definitely 'Best of the Rest'. It was just a pity he couldn't do dual duties of narrating and battling.
Does anybody know why Morimoto's player name was blurred out?
Seems like an odd thing to hide to me.
So close @Alex. You'll get him next time.
That lei is so inappropriately unseasonal, yet the PikaVisor accentuates Alex's face so well... I'm so conflicted!
Gravel Gills is my hero. RIP 2016-2016
I know I was supposed to be watching the battle, but kept getting distracted by Alex's expressions and that dashing Pikachu visor.
That was confusing...if two players have the same points, same pokemon remaining, and same HP percentage, then how does it determine the winner? Hadn't had/seen a Battle Royale that close before. Grats to Alex for getting so impressively close.
Interesting they kept Martyn out of it. His Ghastly's red card did keep Koko at bay for a bit at least.
Great video, that's a keeper
@Jayronauron
The winner is determined by the number of Pokémon you KO (+1 point) and the number of your Pokémon that are KO'd (-1 point).
If all your Pokémon are KO'd however, you instaloose and the battle ends.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy So I take it Explosion saved Morimoto from one of the -1's? Because otherwise they still technically tied by that definition.
@Jayronauron All 4 players were down to their last Pokemon except Morimoto, who had Minior and Exeggutor. Minor wiping out Dartrix tied up the ko count while also doing damage to Magnezone and Vikavolt. Morimoto won because his last Pokemon, Exeggutor, didn't come in so was at full health and won by % HP remaining.
@ASonic3582 Ah, my bad...for some reason I thought Cptn Zaps was at full HP too, but upon looking at it again, I see that wasn't the case due to Explosion. Apologies for the confusion
