Having recently added some generation II 'mon, Niantic is now offering increased odds of nabbing these critters in Pokémon GO. There have been some mumblings of discontent over how these are accessed, so this is probably a smart move.
Through Christmas week and into the New Year various tweaks in the game will adjust how readily the likes of Togepi and Pichu are available; some details are below.
Don't miss out on an increased chance to hatch a Togepi (and other Pokémon)! Starting the morning of December 25, 2016, and through the afternoon of January 3, 2017 (PST), PokéStops will award one single-use Incubator each day after your first Photo Disc spin. As you visit PokéStops during this time period, there will be a greater chance of finding Eggs that hatch Togepi, Pichu, and several other recently found Pokémon, originally discovered in the Johto region. Special Pikachu wearing festive hats will also be staying around a bit longer! You are more likely to find these limited-edition Pikachu during the time period of this celebration.
In addition, from the afternoon of December 30, 2016, through the afternoon of January 8, 2017 (PST), the first partner Pokémon and their Evolutions, originally discovered in the Kanto region, are more likely to be encountered. This means a greater chance to catch Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur, as well as Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard, plus Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise! As a way to increase your chance to encounter one of these Pokémon, Lure Modules will also last for 60 minutes instead of 30 minutes.
Are you planning to go on the hunt in Pokémon GO, or will you spend the festive period slumped in a chair trying to digest an unhealthy amount of food? If it's the latter, then you won't be alone.

Where are all those naysayers saying we wouldn't get anything else for a Christmas event besides the Christmas Pikachu??
Where are all these damn christmas Pikachus hiding? Still never seen a wild Pikachu. Only ever had one through an egg. Finally found a Ditto though. Guess it's time to start walking a lot more next week to hatch more eggs.
Not enough to bring most players back but at least it's doesn't make the game worse like almost all of the other updates did.
@LegendOfPokemon The millions who still play the game regularly.
Sweet!
I evolved an xmas pikachu earlier, I now have an xmas Raichu!!!
I don't want these new Pokemon. All I need is an Aerodactyl from a 10K! Last 2 10K eggs I hatched I've got a Magby and an Elekid!!!
Did catch a CP 2217 Lapras in my house in the middle of nowhere earlier! That was excite
I cant get the app to load anymore after the lastest update a few days ago
We got loads of christmas-Pikachus with my partner but not one hatched baby 'mon. So this is very welcome.
Okay, so when are they gonna start putting Johto Pokemon into the wild?
@bezerker99 what device are you running it on?
Pokemon Go walks are the perfect cure for eating to much food.
@Enigk I've found lots.
Pichu !
No one cares anymore Niantic, you tried, and failed. We got a new real Pokemon game to play now.
This should be a good opportunity to get those baby Pokémon.
@MadAdam81 and here I thought I was the only one!! Let's just say I go for walks daily for this very reason.
I wonder how many players still care about GO at this point. All my friends quit since October's bad updates.
Nice
@faint my LG G3 droid phone....the same phone ive been using to play Pokemon GO since it was originally released. This is as far as the app will load for me now. I have tweeted about it to Niantic several times but, as expected, they have not replied to me. Lol. Merry Christmas!!!
Awesome, I guess the people saying there'd be no additional Christmas event are the same kind of person who was denying any Gen 2 pokémon until the day before release... but who'd have been that blind*?
@bezerker99 Think I've only had my game freeze once since the update on my Samsung Note 4, not sure what could be making it worse for some people... but I will note that the people in my Facebook group having the most trouble are also LG users.
It works perfect for the iPhone!
I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but the event loading screen did actually change a few days ago, which was hinting that there was more on the way for the event.
But I'm a bit disappointed in their application of the event boxes... I was hoping they'd be used for in-game event gifts, but it's basically just a thinly veiled attempt to entice people to spend more money... and if you actually look at what you get for your money, then only the cheapest of the packs is actually decent value... you do get more in the other packs, but it's mostly stuff you don't want or need.
Personally, I think this is just a bit of a wasted opportunity... I'd have given a gift package as a log-in bonus each day, improving in quality for consecutive sign-ins, with each containing an egg and an incubator, with higher quality packages having balls, incense, etc. to entice people to return to the game, or play it more over the festive period... with temporary discounts in the shop to entice players to spend more money.
