The Media Create Chart results are with us once again, showing us what's hot and not in the Japanese market. There are a number of new game releases this week, with a few on 3DS, which has helped prompt some positive movement in hardware sales.
Starting with software, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life has seized top spot for PS4, though Pokémon Sun and Moon isn't far behind as it continues its strong form; Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS had a solid second week to secure third place. The Last Guardian makes its debut for PS4, and notable we have Miitopia in 6th place on 3DS; that's arguably a modest launch considering the marketing efforts behind it, but not disastrous. Puyo Puyo Chronicle managed a top 10 place, though Kunio-kun Nekketsu Complete Famicom Series struggled to leverage nostalgia as much as we expected, debuting in 14th place with less than 10,000 sales.
The top 20 is below with lifetime sales in brackets.
- [PS4] Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (Sega, 12/08/16) – 218,168 (New)

- [3DS] All Kamen Rider: Rider Revolution (Bandai Namco, 12/01/16) – 6,175 (29,484)
- [PS4] Touhou Shinpiroku: Urban Legend in Limbo (Sunfish, 04/28/16) – 6,058 (New)
- [PS4] Battlefield 1 (EA, 10/21/16) – 6,050 (220,422)
- [Wii U] Splatoon (Nintendo, 05/28/15) – 5,852 (1,507,565)
- [PSV] SD Gundam G Generation Genesis (Bandai Namco, 11/24/16) – 5,337 (103,773)
The hardware results make good reading for Nintendo, with the 3DS 'family' securing number one when combined together. The New 3DS LL (XL) gained sales and closed the gap on PS4, while 2DS sales nearly doubled compared to last week.
- PlayStation 4 – 82,218 (110,318)
- New 3DS LL – 67,247 (53,414)
- 2DS – 33,439 (17,623)
- PlayStation Vita – 22,314 (20,141)
- New 3DS – 7,887 (7,432)
- PlayStation 4 Pro – 7,499 (8,032)
- Wii U – 4,656 (4,718)
- Xbox One – 1,245 (256)
- PlayStation 3 – 853 (704)
- 3DS – 314 (368)
- 3DS LL – 88 (92)
A reasonable week from a Nintendo perspective, with two big-sellers on 3DS - along with some modest new releases - helping to drive hardware sales.

Dang it !
I'm not happy to see the result.
Another reasons why I completely don't care with Sony anymore.
So many games I want to play but can't due to region lock. The sad thing is they lock regions so that people buy games in their own region for data purposes (and to avoid people buying bootlegs by accident)... but it they don't release them here, they're just throwing away money.
So want the Gundam & Kamen Rider games.
@Equinox
That's why I stop playing Roman number Final Fantasy starting from XIII. I have ever played XIII by rent and felt disappointed. The last FF that I ever played was FF XII, Wonderful Gambit system but very boring storyline (Too many political issues, the sacrifice of Leddas wasn't so impressive) but still I prefer FF XII rather than FF XIII and above.
Another 100K for Mario Maker 3DS was kind of expected. The whole package seems geared more towards the Japanese market, where streetpass level sharing makes considerably more sense to me, and I can imagine it's going to have a decent tail-end for sales.
Miitopia's debut is a weird one. I expected it to perform moderately, due in part to releasing hot on the heels of another, considerably bigger, RPG series; but I also think that, if the game's good, it will sell... just not so close to Pokémon. I mean, even after nearly four weeks at market, it's still selling nearly 200,000 copies a week.
Still, here's hoping Miitopia both sells well (or, at least, well enough for Nintendo) and actually gets localised, that would be nice, too.
@Equinox
In my opinion, FF X wasn't really bad but the Character's outfit looks like Harajuku style, a lot of Lady Gaga style. XD
The sequel, FF X-2 in my opinion looks like "Slumber Party" of 3 Beautiful "Charlie's Angel" that hunts for Sphere. I have ever played both of them but FF X-2 impressed me a bit due the gameplay, not by storyline. FF X-2 storyline was so absurd to be continued, Dark Aeon again, etc.
This is the only country (with chart detailes) where COD and FIFA don't dominate the charts.
@Aaron09
Because typically Japanese doesn't like what Western like and vice versa. Like we compare between Fire and Ice.
About the sport, Japanese really addicted with Baseball. There are so many Baseball references on almost every single Anime or Manga.
I've not been following the japanese charts too much but does anyone know why the PS4 Pro is doing so much worse then the standard console. Its over 10 times less which seems weird to me.
On a separate note, well done 3ds. Over a 100k sold between all the different models.
For those interested: for the last couple of weeks the 3DS family has been outselling XBone worldwide by quite a margin.
Not bad huh? I'm interested to see what that means for the handheld's future.

@Anti-Matter what's the reason you don't care about Sony. Is it because they are selling well.
@UK-Nintendo
I have explained before on previous thread. Tons of disgusting adult games on both those Nefarious game company, I don't care with the number of their selling. Numbers like that means Nothing for me. Best selling they said, but it means Worst machine ever for me. Never care anymore with company like that.
Btw, check some previous thread. I had confessed all about my explanation why I hate both Sony and Microsoft.
@Anti-Matter but Nintendo also and use to have tons of adult rated games. Don't you want Nintendo to be successful and target a wider audience. And have lots of third party support
Splatoon is still hanging in there, impressive
@Anti-Matter True. I just wish people could experience something other than the annual cod updates, but Whatever floats there boat I guess huh?
The 3DS is doing good everywhere right now and it's easy to see why, the 3DS has such a great library of games available it is a win win to own the system as well there are still some great titles on the way . The 3DS is my all-time favorite system at this point I really really hope the Switch is not the end of 3D and a dedicated handheld system from Nintendo I even love the duel screen.
Over 33,000 sold 2DS systems in just one week, and we're not even in the proper holiday weeks yet. Bet Nintendo is real happy that they finally released 2DS in Japan... and at the same time kicking themselves in the head for not doing it sooner.
Xbone seems to have had a surge of sales.
Those Japanese 3DS owners obviously didn't pay attention to the comments on here last week about Super Mario Maker 3DS. lol.
Plus will Minecraft on the WiiU and Splatoon ever leave the Japanese charts?
Hm...for combined sales those are pretty low for an FF game. I take it this doesn't take download sales into account?
@FlashmanHarry If I had to guess it's because it costs quite a bit more than a regular PS4 bundle and Japanese gamers don't see the value for the additional cost (4K at 30fps might not be compelling to them, also no 4K Blu-Ray player might be a turn off). Branding might be an issue as well (see Wii, Wii U). The average consumer might not even realize there's a difference between the two.
For comparison:

@Ernest_The_Crab your probably right. Cheers for the reply.
@UK-Nintendo
Nintendo is different. They have lesser adult games, more focused on Everyone - Teen games. You can see NDS/3DS/Wii/Wii U dominated by Everyone rated. Nintendo can still success even with lesser adult games. They should maintain their image brand carefully, like Disney keep maintain their brand (Entertainment for Family oriented until Teen).
@Anti-Matter oh so Nintendo only started with Wii. What about snes. N64 GameCube. Look at the GameCube library.
Are you like 8 years old.
Disney is a evil company. Don't let your kids watch Disney. It's full of secret dirt.
What's happened to all the Disney kids. What's happened.
@Anti-Matter they have lesser adult games because they have less third party support. More developers choose to develop for ps4. Is it sonys fault that developers want to create software for there platform.
How is all this sonys fault.
I think you really need to understand how it all works and not think like a Nintendo obsessed fanboy. Take those Nintendo glasses off.
I'm a Nintendo fan but I also have a PlayStation 4. Nothing evil about Sony
@UK-Nintendo
Oh, third party games doesn't always Western games from Sony or Microsft with M-rated. There are also some 3rd party games created by Japanese developers, especially dedicated for Nintendo machines. They are have different audience target, like Style Savvy for Girls, Doraemon for Japanese audiences, some cute games for girls.
I like Disney, but not all Disney movies I like because i'm very picky.
Nintendo need more 3rd party supports, but I can always choose Appropriate games for my collection. My first rule for all my games is NO M-rated Allowed. I don't need that games because I want to teach to all people especially my students to play Appropriate games.
Surprisingly, my young brother suddenly bought PS4 just for FF XV recently. But I have no interest anymore with newest Sony machines, so I decide to abandon ps4 completely, doesn't even want to watch my brother playing his game. I'm done with Sony.
I think I have explained all and sorry if I keep persistent with my way of thinking because I still have concern about nowadays situation. Hope you understand.
MiiTopia?
@WiltonRoots
Ya know, I've spent hundreds of hours on Mario Maker Wii U. And having just tried some of Mario Maker 3DS...
I can't say I disagree with the score now. I compare it to games like New Super Mario Bros 2, and it's far better, with 100 meticulously designed levels from Nintendo (more than an actual 2D Mario game would have).
At first I was angry about the online, but having calmed down and now that I'm thinking rationally, I can say the game is still a masterpiece. It's just such a great fit on 3DS.
@JaxonH
May I ask about Mario Maker 3DS ?
I saw Wii U version has Funny Mushroom that if Mario eat it, he will "Confused" and the Graphic + Music will be distorted so funny. Is that Mushroom still exist for 3DS version ?
@Anti-Matter
I can't say, I haven't played enough of the game to answer your question.
It's a great game for 3DS though. I mean, any time a fully fledged 8th gen home console games gets ported to the meager little handheld that could, it's a treat. Even if it is scaled back and more limited. Just having the freedom to create levels on 3DS is so cool.
I know it's not in 3D and sharing is local and street pass only, but I was able to browse Wii U levels to download and play just fine. And all the creation elements are unlocked from the start, which is nice cause I hated grinding to unlock all the rows on Wii U. The Nintendo made challenge courses alone though make the game worth owning.
I still prefer Wii U version but for an on-the-go quickie version, it ain't bad at all
Mario Maker's 2nd week sales are really good. Legs started kicking in almost immediately after launch.
I swear some guys live in a parallel universe... Do you realise that FFXV is the most sold ps4 game in Japan ever? And this in just two weeks. Home consoles are dead in Japan, sadly...The Switch has the potential to really get this market right and I hope a XV port happens!
@Romeo-75 We will be getting a Nintendo 3dHDS with upscaling to HD on all existing 3ds games!
@cfgk24 I hope you are right I really do., I love the 3D effect produced by 3DS when done right on the portable in my opinion it adds more than the HD .
