As far as miniaturised consoles go, the NES Classic Edition (or Nintendo Classic Mini as it's known in Europe) has to be one of the most adorable. We managed to get our hands on one of these bad boys early and put its packaging through its paces, albeit gently.
Check out the video above where we take this sucker out of its packing in a format known to antiquity as an 'unboxing', wherein a man with floppy hair becomes confused at the concept of two controllers.
This package was sent with two controllers for review purposes; retail units come packaged with a single controller only.

2 CONTROLLERS!
(Internet lights up!)
Nice
The 2nd controller is to make up for the 300 platinum points expiring before you have anything to spend them on. And shouldn't they be 60 gold for a $59.99 purchase?
Oh well, why start making sense now, we weren't supposed to get codes anymore anyway.
Another fun vid, looking for the other one now.
HELLO there, lovely Alex!
Hello there lovely @Tyranexx!
@A01 I thought it was a review code at first but then this is Nintendo, and more to the point it's Nintendo Europe so maybe they have a different outlook on the box contents. Afterall the US version gets a poster with instructions on the back whereas we get a manual.
2 controllers probably because of review unit +1
@A01 You would think Nintendo would at least mention why it has 2 controllers, especially knowing most sites would do unboxings. Nothing like confusing people hey Nintendo?
Got my confirmation email for my preorder yesterday, can't wait.
2 controllers will be good, I'll wait and see if we get it here in Australia.
Probably get none and have to wait 6 months for them to get them in.
Hey Alex, you know my address to post that to yeah?
God, I hope Alex' face isn't lurking in there with that expression on it.
And, WTH! Two controllers!
Wouldn't it be a nice bonus if Nintendo decided to give Europeans a second controller in the box as a way to make up for the fact we don't get a power adapter . . .
Stange. lol
@AlexOlney
DAT THUMBNAIL
Seriously tho, were you sneezing? xD
Two Controllers!?
Damn it, I preordered another controller!
Anyone notice the MyNintendo code that comes with it?
@Wolfgabe Supposedly 300 platinum coins. Don't spend them all at once now. That is before they expire. That's what we get for spending €60? No gold coins. We get more coins for buying games off the eShop and they're gold to boot.
Who sells a home console without a plug?!?
@JohnnyC Nintendo. And not for the first time.
@JohnnyC Nintendoes
I don't really care about unboxings, but can't stay away from another Alex video.
Hope the aus one comes with 2 controllers as the controllers by themselves pre-sold out faster than the mini itself. Find out on thursday anyway i guess.
@DiscoGentleman arent they just canvas prints? But i really really like them! The colours look so bright! Would love a chrono trigger one in that style.
Oh man, I love that smile in the thumbnail
Release your mini from its prison Alex!
Is there any way to buy a Nintendolife t-shirt?
@rjejr Exactly my thoughts on the lack of gold coins. You can earn more than double that in platinum coins on My Nintendo in a month for free by doing virtually nothing.
2 controllers included is definitely not standard as I've seen other European unboxing videos and they just had the one included.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You inspired me to check, I have 2675 plat coins and still zero gold. I had 550 expire on Tuesday and another 500 due to expire at the end of the month but I'm finding it very hard to care. I may get my wife that Isablella theme for her 3DS she hasn't used in 2 years, just b/c.
@rjejr I'd about 800 platinum points expire last month and it's a similar situation for the following months. I've 110 gold coins, thankfully none are expiring until next year but there's nothing to spend them on.
@samuelvictor This product targets people who don't really play video games (anymore), but remember the good times they had with their NES. What do those people need Gold Points for, if you can't use them for anything without owning another Nintendo console/ handheld.
2 controller for for the REVIEW unit...
Silly Internet, think about it.
£50 and I can't power it up, absolutely not!
@rjejr anyone with platinum points expiring, you could always redeem some of them on the 3DS themes, even if you're not interested they come as a code which you can offer to someone else? That's what I've been doing, my nephew was delighted with the Yokai Watch theme. Just a thought! 👍
@Dangerous25
King of Pop forever!
@Pete41608 damn right! ✌
Someone give the poor man some teeth! And no, just two front teeth at Christmas isn't going to cut it.
A good unboxing video, lets wait and see (unless Nintendo say other wise during the week) whether or not we get two controllers!! I am looking forward to unboxing this myself!
Given that the packaging explicitly states that the device only comes with 1 controller, I expect this was just a review bundle in normal packaging to save time.
@SanderEvers um me? maybe you can send me one. i only have one and i'm using it with my phone and i don't intend to switch between the devices constantly.
@SanderEvers i sell all the stuff i don't need anymore
@Dangerous25 Thanks, it may come to 3DS themes, but as little effort as that would be to redeem the coins for themes, it's too much work for me, I'm very very lazy.
I am gonna say something very dumb: So it doesn't support scart? I can't use it on my old television then!
@SanderEvers,
Thanks for the answer!
