Among some of the first news out of today's 3DS-focused Nintendo Direct was some new information about the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Moon, including some interesting insights about Z-Moves.

Truly one of the most ubiquitous Pokémon, Rattata seems to now have an Alolan form. Alolan Rattata is Dark/Normal type and can have one of two abilities: Gluttony (which makes a Pokemon eat a held berry more quickly), or Hustle (which raises a Pokémon's Attack stat at the cost of Accuracy). Once in Alola, Yungoos were introduced into the wild to control the Rattata population. However, the Rattata ended up adapting to become nocturnal to avoid the predatory Yungoos. One can only imagine how this adaptation might affect the evolved form...

Additionally, some new details about Z-Moves have been explained. It appears that individual Pokemon can have special Z-Moves (that require special corresponding Z-Crystals to use in battle). Examples of these include Stoked Sparksurfer (exclusive to Alolan Raichu) and Pulverizing Pancake (exclusive to Snorlax). These moves have unique Z-Crystal hold item requirements (Snorlium Z, fantastic name), as well as unique animations. Snorlax's Pulverizing Pancake animation sequence shows it abruptly awakening and the energy of 20 years' naps flash in its eyes before it delivers the move.

Any player who purchases Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon before January 11, 2017 will be eligible to receive a Munchlax via Internet Connection holding Snorlium Z that knows Hold Back and Happy Hour.
