Pokémon GO's Japanese adventure has been something of a saga. It was initially released in that region alongside Australia and New Zealand a few weeks back, but was pulled when it became clear that the servers simply couldn't cope with the demand.

Japanese players were then told that they might have to wait until later in the month to get their hands on the game, before a rumour emerged that a McDonald's sponsorship deal would see it launch on Wednesday this week. That release was apparently pulled at the last minute, but the good news is that the app is now available in Japan on both iOS and Android.

To mark the occasion, a video has been released but no mention is made of the proposed McDonald's deal - although the existence of the agreement between the two companies has at least been made official now. As part of the deal, 3,000 McDonald's outlets will become gyms in the game.
