Hyper Training, Six New Pokémon and More Announced for Sun and Moon

So, no more Global Link for past games after Sun & Moon are released? That's no good.

....So is Hyper Training the new Super?

Bottlecaps? Since when did Pokemon suddenly become Fallout?

In other words, when the new generation is released, older generations get the shaft.
I'm completely overwhelmed by this surprising turn of events.

Quite excited for this game! It's gonna be a blast! Although I wish they would stop releasing so many Pokemon...I can't help spoiling them for myself.

Also idk how easy it will be, but Hyper training is an absolutely fantastic idea! Finally I don't have to be depressed that my Chandelure has no IVs in special attack!

@Megumi_Sagano Nope. Super raised the Pokemon's EVs. Hyper raises IVs.

I like the ghost and the fish pokemon. The horse and the Cherrim imposter are alright, but I despise the bear and the flower ring.

Can we talk about the fact that Mudsdale is over 8 feet tall and weighs almost as much as Groudon?!

Love Wimpod's typing but I'm not very happy about it's ability. I hope to god it can learn Skill Swap or something...

I'm not taking sides on the rest of them, they're all alright in my book - but Mimikyu's still my favourite so far. Finally getting to see it's ability in action and the anticipation coupled with the "deflation" of it's disguise made me laugh. I just wasn't expecting the costume to limply slump over like that.

Hyper training's going to be so awesome! My newest competitive team will have literally no holes at all - that's awesome! I wonder how rare the bottle caps will be. Will there be a max of six across the region per cartridge or something? If so, that'll add a new dimension to battles. I.E. Which few pokemon in the opponent's team are the ones with perfect IV's and which aren't.

Hey, I know it takes the hard work out of breeding and such but I personally think this is the better option. We now have a good reason to level each pokemon we plan to use competitively up to level 100 - which is awesome. Honestly I'm a perfectionist that would just do it anyway - but now I'll have something to look forward to each time I do.

@IceClimbers wait, what?! Who determines these things? Clydesdales are pretty big horses, but I've never seen one that was 8 freakin' feet.

These new pokemon suck! Focus on gen 1 since that is what everyone is looking at on pokemon go. Gen 1 for the win baby!

Mimikyuu is pretty interesting (Ghosts tend to have descriptions that are sad and/or scary, i like that), i wonder what it looks like without its disguise, Mudsdale is pretty cool too.

Not so fond of Wimpod though, i'm probably missing something, but that ability looks like it would make for hard catching as well as battling...

@DoctorOverbuild I THINK it's only the GameSync, which basically was just getting pokemiles and syncing medals, that's it. Other than that, the ACTUAL online services (PSS and GTS) are not related to it.

I hope there is a reasonable place in Sun/Moon to level your Pokemon to level 100. Battling the E4 over and over again could still take many hours for each Pokemon to level them to 100 if the E4 doesn't increase in level after your first fight (or after some post game events).

Perhaps they could add an area in the game where the Pokemon that you fight will always be within 5 levels above or under the highest leveled Pokemon currently in your party, or they could just have a post game area that let's you select the level of Pokemon you want to fight, which is repeatable and you can gain EXP from of course.

I also hope that Bottle Caps are not obscenely rare or difficult and time consuming to acquire.

If the Bottle Caps are a maximum cost Battle Facility prize (the post game cheating AI battles), or are a 1% hold item from an already rare Pokemon, and you need 1 Bottle Cap to raise 1 IV by 1, it's still going to be better than IV breeding, but it'll still be an "intentionally not fun" mechanic causing people to cheat because nobody wants to go through that luck based grinding.

If there is a reasonable way to level your Pokemon to 100, it's not 1 Bottle Cap to raise 1 IV by 1, and Bottle Caps are not obscenely rare or difficult and time consuming to acquire, than the amount of cheating will dramatically decrease.

The important thing is to let people have fun with the game, the game shouldn't be forcing you to do intentionally boring and very time consuming things, which has always been the main issue with IVs. It should focus on allowing people to have fun.

Edit: If it hasn't been clarified yet, it's not "even after it's reached level 100", to use Hyper Training, the Pokemon has to be at level 100, no less.

I'm still shocked with how bad the designs are for some of these Pokemon. Bewear is a dumb design AND a dumb name. Which is sad, because I loved all the new Pokemon in gen 6.

i kind of like all of them. and i will definitely be catching them all but I think my main team will consist of Rowlet, Mimikyu, Salandit, Togedemaru, Drampa and Rockruff.

They are all pretty great. Bewear still hasn't grown on me fully yet, but I'll give it some time. I really like the other, though. AND WE HAVE ANOTHER BUG! Finally! This one even has somewhat unique typing. I wonder how strong these guys will be, it would be cool to have another generation 5 where there were tons of bug Pokémon, and all of them were at least decent.

Oh, and Hyper Training is amazing. It raises IVs? I thought gen 6 already made it extremely easy to make perfect Pokémon, but this one takes the cake. I just hope bottle caps aren't extremely hard to come by.

These new Pokemon are so poorly designed, Game Freak is pumping out freaks.

What is needed is an evolution of the core design philosophy, rather than the 'Mon themselves.

I LOVE these ones, especially Mudsdale. The flower one is... meh... but Mimikkyu has really grown on me.

Bottle caps? Seriously? First some weird VR balloon training and now this? Those weird things totally break immersion of what I'd do if I were a kid training a pet monster!

How about just some freakin' My DayCare, so instead of running around on a bike on a route back and forth - which is an ancient boring mechanic - you could buy equipment for the DayCare so the Pokemon have better environment, and that would raise the IVs of their eggs. You would prepare the Pokemon various food to set the nature of the eggs they make. Then you'd play a minigame and depending on your success, the Pokemon would then pop out more of better quality eggs. Another egg-heating minigame for quickly hatching the eggs en masse. Some NPCs would then adopt the fresh hatchlings you wouldn't want to keep, instead of coldheartedly releasing them, and you'd earn some money to buy better equipment for the daycare.

These things write themselves. But no. Bottle caps.

@Yorumi I think what worries me the most is it's speed. Because if it's naturally slow as well as being weak (we just saw a good example from the trailer, for example) it probably wouldn't have the chance to do anything. Imagine it coming into contact with a priority move. It wouldn't stand a chance.

Yet no signs of returning features like bases and contest.

Thoughts on this batch:
Bewear - I wasn't too fond of the design at first, but it's starting to grow on me. It really isn't that bad.
Mimikyu - Still looks pretty awesome, I think. A ghost/fairy type who copies Pikachu? This Pokemon is almost sympathetic.
Wympod - This one is certainly...unique. I hope it evolves.
Bounsweet - Alola's version of Hoppip. Kinda meh.
Comfey - Bonus points for having a Pokemon show off the concept of a Lei. Probably my least favorite of the batch as I'm not too fond of the design.
Mudsdale - Now we're talking! This thing looks like it would patiently hand out punishment to anything that crosses its path. Plus, I've been wanting another horse Pokemon.

All in all, not a bad batch.

Wimpod is my favorite from these (90% sure it's based on a giant isopod), alongside Mimikyu. Can't wait for the games.

I really like Mimikyu. Only one there I can't say I'm too fond of is Mudsdale.

I do hope, though, that these two games have more post-game content than XY in regards to non-online features. Like more places to visit with more old Pokemon, more legendaries and so on.

Hopefully, Wimpod won't change its type combination upon evolution like the only current Bug/Water Pokémon, namely Surskit.

I have a feeling that one of the main characters will be donning Comfey in the next season of the anime, similarly to how the little girl carries around Dedenne now and how Misty used to carry Togepi around in her arms.

You've never seen human sized bugs either. (Thank goodness) Or rodents that can shoot electricity out of their faces. Horses can get as tall as 6 ft at the shoulder.

Though i dont like these designs, They still kinda look like "Pokemon" in some way. The only ones that bother me as of now are that dragqueen fish and the grandpa dragon. They bother me so much that i hope they get pulled out of the game. The other ones are ok. I personally think that Bewear has an ok design for the sake of having new pokemon. If people can accept Miltank, then Bewear is also acceptable.

(I hope you don't read this in a snarky tone.) @Tempestryke I'm well acquainted with the size of horses. I'm actually a veteraned horse rider. Mudsdale's size just stood out to me as wonderfully bizarre because beyond being coated with mud, it's basically just a horse. It just so happens to be as heavy as Groudon. This makes it a bit more reminiscent of the Trojan Horse, but the motif is nowhere else in its design. Why so big?

It doesn't bother me. In fact, Mudsdale's design is my favorite of the new bunch (though, I think it's a pretty solid lineup all around). I just reflect on how Pokémon sizes rarely make any sense. I'm not of any remarkable height, but I still tower over Charizard. Wailord may be big, but its weight distribution is so off it essentially can float in the air. Rapidash is the size of an average mustang, but Mudsdale is as big as Mamoswine, a Pokémon based off of a freakin' woolly mammoth.

@Seacliff if anything that individual equid is about 5'05" at the shoulders. That's still not quite 8'00", even in accounting for the additional height from its shouldr blade to the tip of its ears. I never said horses couldn't be big - they're certainly large animals - but Mudsdale is is heavy as Groudon - a volcanic dinosaurian beast - and as tall as Mamoswine - a giant woolly mammoth-inspired boar. The elephant Pokémon Donphan is only 3'07" for crying out loud. It's just kinda weird. Sorry if I'm the only one.
