Historically, Nintendo consoles have always been on point when it comes to the variety of colours that are available. While not everyone is always pleased with the launch colours, most of its formats have had their fair share of special editions and additional options to give everyone a chance at picking a unit that best expresses themselves. While the standard size New 3DS has removable cover plates to give you even more options, the 3DS XL still sticks with a certain colour for each unit, and Nintendo has just unveiled two new variations for those who are interested.
The two new colours are Lime x Black and Pink x White, and they'll launch on June 9th for 20,304 yen ($186 or £129) in Japan. Whether or not these units will ever make it West is still up in the air, but for those of you who must have these, you may want to consider pre-ordering. Here's a couple more photos:

I still use my original aqua blue 3DS, but I really like that lime color. If this comes west, I'll actually get a New 3DS.
And Nintendo's obsession with sticking an X to indicate crossovers continues. I know some of them make sense, but "Lime x Black" and "Pink x White"? Seriously? Nintendo's naming conventions knows no bounds.
So purple is a possibility?

Seems Splatoon is all the craze over in Japan (Lime and Pink representing the Squid Sisters from the look of it).
Lime x Black looks fantastic. I don't own New! 3DS, but this made me want one even more than before.

@Undead_terror I know, right? I'd have bought the Gold Zelda-themed N3DS, but the plain black one matches all themes, so there's more freedom. Black goes with everything!
I like the matte finish. Wish Nintendo did that with the N3DSXL to begin with; the glossy finish they went with tracks fingerprints and smudges too easily.

@Yoshi That's a Japanese thing, not a Nintendo thing. X generally means "cross" to indicate a crossover when used in popular media.

The word colour is spelt wrong numerous times in this article. The poster is Japanese so that's fine but the spelling of colour by a UK website should not be without the u. It's just plain bad grammar!!

@MitchVogel In all seriousness, are there actually any 'house rules' on spelling conventions? I know NL is 'British based', but its readership and writership are obviously pretty global, so... yeah.
Are you encouraged to stick to a uniform 'house style', or are writers just allowed to write as they would to their home audience?
Not that it makes much difference. The only words I ever notice the discrepancies with are "colo[u]r" and "favo[u]rite" anyway (all the "z" and "s" variations largely pass me by).
Just bought a N3DS now that America has it in some form, switched from my N3DSXL and I quite enjoy the more compact design.
Those look junk to me.
I love the interchangeable faceplates of the smaller model, and I honestly cannot fathom why Nintendo didn't just do the same with the larger model.
@Maxz Yeah, I'd expect the site itself to be consistent with its spelling (or at the least within the content of each article, depending on where the specific writer is from), obviously, but not the individuals posting in the comments. That's just being a bit anal imo.
Does it really matter how a word is spelled if it's at least the correct spelling in another region of the world?

got a n3DS for the coloured buttons, if only they made the XL with coloured buttons rather than just the lettering they'd have my order.
@Yoshi That is just a Japanese obsession in general when it comes to naming conventions when doing crossovers. No idea why... It really just is.

@Maxz if it doesn't make much difference and you know they are writing from the UK (we Canadians also use the same spelling BTW) what is your concern exactly?
It's only "global" because in the UK they speak english, thus other countries that speak english can also read their website.
You don't see Japanese gaming sites in Japan writing in english just because they are writing about something western?

I believe most of the writers are UK based, but Mitch is from the US (as are a few less frequent writers), so I wondered whether there was a site-wide standard on spellings, or whether writers just wrote how they would normally.
I don't mind either way. I'm from the UK, so it makes me happy to see colour and favourite spelt with their arguably extraneous 'U's, but I really don't have a strong opinion.
My point about being 'global' was that if 90% of the readership was from the US, then that might influence whether US-based writers were encouraged to adopt UK spelling conventions. It's a question of who you're writing to, rather than what you're writing about, so I'm a bit confused by the example of the Japanese website. It's precisely because English is the main language of many counties that the question of which spelling convention to adopt is relevant. If the writers were entirely UK based, it wouldn't be a dilemma; UK English would be adopted without question. However, if you have a US-based writer addressing a (potentially) majority US audience, should they adopt UK spelling conventions for consistency, or should they just write how they normally would? Arguably, it doesn't even matter, but I'd like to justify my original question (hence this wall of text).
A Japanese website would never face this (admittedly minor) problem, as Japanese is spoken almost exclusively in Japan, and no one really has to worry about whether US-Japanese or British-Japanese is more appropriate. Yes, there are dialects, and Japanese no doubt has its own spelling issues to contend with (for example, the word for 'deadline' can be written either 締め切り, 締切り, 締切, 〆切, 〆切り, 乄切り, 閉め切り, or 閉切り), but I don't think it's directly comparable.
It was a genuinely open question rather than any form of complaint. I don't mind what conventions are adapted, but I am curious if they exist.
I'd consider the lime colored one.

The white New 3DS looks ok but most of the cooler faceplates look better on the black one.
Oh well, i'll use my N3DSXL until they announce it, then i'll sell mine and get the black one.
@ULTRA-64 Imho, it is only an issue if you allow yourself to be wound a bit too tight and consider your region to be the only one that matters and your preferences the only way of handling the spelling of words. Yes, Spelling. Not grammar. Adding a 'u' to make it more 'UK' has nothing to do with grammar. Grammar has to do with how words are used within a language. It. Doesn't. Matter.
Now about those new colors: Yaaaaaaaaasssssssss. Especially the green!

I'd almost want to trade my majora's mask n3ds xl for that amazing lime color. Green is my favorite color.
Green is my favourite colour too, but that ain't it. I've always longed for a deep, Forrest green handheld. Never gonna happen, but I keep hoping.
My white N3DS is wonderful, imho. Better size/weight for my hands and the games are sharper and amazingly more colourful than on my old 3DS XL.
The lime one looks great. I actually have the Japan-only lime cover plate for the original 3DS, and I love it.
A Lime x Pink model would be awesome, though.

Agreed. They finally came out with a Forrest Green DS XL 5 months before the 3DS was set to release. It's our lot in life, I guess. Wish I could get a black N3DS and a dark green faceplate.

Splatoons Legends April Fool's Prank Game confirmed.
My first Nintendo handheld was a lime green Game Boy Color. I'd love to have a lime green handheld again, but the black interior is a turn off. I already own a black N3DS XL, so it wouldn't feel any different. I haven't found a satisfactory lime green skin to cover it either.
The pink/white is cool, though. Love the white interior and the rainbow buttons.
Oh Nintendo, you silly dolts. Why didn't you make the New 3DS XL to feature exchangeable faceplates in the first place?
