E3 is less than two months away, which means it's open season for rumours and leaks. Not everyone with a 'source' is worth acknowledging, but some have gone through 'mod' checks and been backed up by other consistently accurate insiders, so they're tougher to ignore.

Of course, all rumours are read at your own discretion, but what we will say here is that this particular rumour touches upon what could be a key selling point of the Nintendo NX, if it's true. In any case, those that don't want the surprise ruined should look away now; that's not an option for your humble writer. So here's your warning, and the cool video below showing the evolution of Nintendo controllers up to Wii U serves as another break before the information comes.

Still reading? The source is the same NeoGAF user - 10K - that wrote about potential Wii U remasters for NX, claims backed up by others citing their sources. Of course, these are still rumours to be treated with salt as 10K themselves acknowledge. They've also tiered their claims based on the number of reported sources.

The NX gimmick, which is apparently from three sources, is claimed to be a screen controller that is essentially a shell that uses improved GamePad technology, but is capable of being played anywhere (presumably through Wi-Fi and network services).

The NX is going to have a screen controller (whether it's optional or standard I don't know) and can be used anywhere to play your home console games. The controller itself will not have any processing capabilities, it'll essentially be a dummy vita. It'll likely have basic OS functions to access the NX console from anywhere, like a tiny cpu. Nintendo will use enhanced Wii U gamepad streaming tech, and allow the controller to be taken anywhere, connect to the NX console at home (likely through Wi-fi or personal hotspots and the NX console will likely have to be in stand-by mode). Basically, it's remote play built into the box and won't require a $200 add-on to experience it. This is likely what Kimishima meant in his interview with Sankei (http://www.sankei.com/west/news/1601...030012-n1.html) "different way to play with a dedicated machine" and the whole "new way to experience games" mantra that's been going around Nintendo PR.

The challenge with this would be selling the idea of users connecting online to play, not to mention achieving a solid streaming performance. Perhaps Nintendo would offer a service or accessory that links into various networks (like 3D services in Kindle e-readers, but on a whole new level), and this wouldn't necessarily rule out a separate standalone portable. Again though, it's a rumour.

The next rumour is around a major game project which even points to one of our own articles - this is claimed to be from two sources.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is in development for NX. This rumor gained popularity awhile ago from Geno but this isn't my source. This was a T1 to start but today I got another source to give some info on it. Two different sources have told me that it is in development for NX, and one source said it's being developed by Next Level Games, who is big enough to do this and Federation Force at the same time. One source said it started as a Wii U game but ever the disappointing performance of the Wii U and the scheduled release date for the game being late in the console's cycle, Nintendo decided to switch development over to NX. (basically the same situation as Zelda for Wii U, but no word on if this game will also get a Wii U version). The other source said it's a pretty big deal (he didn't elaborate if he meant Nintendo is making it a big deal or his workplace is). To support this, https://www.nintendolife.com/news/201...edits_the_post, an employee stealth edited his post last year.

We're going to largely leave out the single source rumours. In summary, though, they reference the NX being more powerful that PS4 and potentially "it could be close to the PS4K rumored specs". Hit up the source link below if you want to read that part about CPU and GPU specifics.

These are all rumours, of course, though we'd suggest that nothing here is outlandish, and for our part we've been banging on about NX likely having a portable element for a long time, as have many others.

So what do you think of this latest round of rumours. Feasible? Nonsense? Let us know.
