We know that Miitomo and the new My Nintendo loyalty programme launch on 17th March in Japan - the trouble is that we don't yet have a firm release date for the Americas and PAL territories. They're both coming in March, but as can be the way with smart device apps - and some Nintendo initiatives - the launch could come at relatively short notice.
If you want to get in early on My Nintendo goodness, then, you should make sure that you create your Nintendo Account ASAP. The perk being offered is a Platinum Coin / Points (the reward currency that'll primarily be linked to smartphone apps and services) which will be redeemable for goodies within Miitomo. Though the upcoming social app doesn't require a Nintendo Account (and related membership in My Nintendo), Nintendo seems keen to promote both as working hand in hand.
If you haven't already done so, then, there's still time to get signed up. You can sign up for a Nintendo Account on the official website here, then when logged in visit the Miitomo preregistration website.
If you want a step-by-step guide and a breakdown of what the Nintendo Account / My Nintendo and Miitomo are all about, we wrote up a handy guide a little while ago.
If you're already signed up and pre-registered all you can do is wait. Nintendo's new loyalty programme and debut smart device app are due before the month is out.

The waiting is killing me.
Thank you for the reminder, just signed up.
what is it anyway? Tinder with Miis? lol
Still can't make an account because i live in norway, unlucky me.
I wonder how much we can actually get with one platinum point. Most likely a hook to get us to play Miitomo and the later apps/games to get more points and stay focussed on the Nintendo brand. Just making great games will do that for me.
Almost forgot to do this! Thanks NL! Now we wait to see what the heck it is we've signed up for.
@BlueFrie same here and I am from Portugal, it's kinda irritating seeing Spain in the list and Portugal not there, I mean seriously, we're from the same Peninsula. >_>
I want Flipnote 3D please...
Considering Nintendo Account will be available to countries that do not get Miitomo at launch, I don't get why they won't open the pre-registration for Nintendo Account to those who will be eligible to register for it once it's launched. I find it a bad policy to exclude a lot of customers from the platinum coins given to you by pre-registering in this manner.
Plus, considering the way you can get Flipnote 3D when you register to Nintendo Account are still somewhat hazy, I'm afraid I'll be missing my chance of getting it after waiting for it from the day it was first revealed years ago.
..been there....done that...
Still waiting for the registration to open for us in Sweden. I just get a message saying that the service isn't available in my country yet when I try to register.
This is Club Nintendo all over again. Norway left out again, and I assume the other Scandinavian countries as well. Dozens of western countries are in, we're left out. I somehow thought Nintendo could get it right this time, but, no. They screw up as always.
@-DG Didn't your know? It's a contract which you sell your soul to Nintendo permanently.
My Son is four, has his own NNID, his own 2DS linked to my Wii U, can I open a Nintendo Account for him?
Seeing I have a Windows phone and no desire to download 'apps' anyway, I'll think I'll hang back and see what actual benefit this account thing gives to a Wii U and 3DS owner.
Not interested. I don't have a smart phone so there's no point.
Well, still not available in Mexico.
Just a small bit of information: DeNA seems to be caring about the online infrastructure, at least regarding mobile apps; will Nintendo Network still be the base for online gaming of current and future games? Because I fear some situation like that of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection that was managed by GameSpy and was ended abruptly due to the latter company folding.
No Sweden yet... come on Nintendo
Thanks again for the reminder. I have been putting this off.
"The perk being offered is a Platinum Coin / Points (the reward currency that'll primarily be linked to smartphone apps and services) which will be redeemable for goodies within Miitomo."
Wow, and here I thought I'd miss something important.
Yawn.
Let me know when you can use Platinum points for something interesting.
@BlueFrie Damn man you live in Norway, how unlucky can you be. It must be so damn beautiful there..
@Slave123 That would actually be helpful. "Let's see... well, she likes Pokemon, good, good... wait, WHAT?!? Bulbasaur's her favorite Gen 1 starter? OH HECK NO." swipes left
It would help us find love based on what really matters.
I keep forgetting that this exists...
Don't have a smartphone, no drive for me to sign up.
Wasn't there a free app or something Nintendo was going to give away to My Nintendo members? I keep thinking it's a new version of Swapnote, but I can't see any mention of it anywhere online.
EDIT: Never mind, found it; for UK/EU/Aus members, you get Flipnote Studio 3D for signing up during the launch period.
I don't give two hoots about Miitomo. Does the world really need yet another piece of "social" freemium garbage, even with Nintendo's branding on it? Still, thanks for the reminder because I've been putting it off. At least completing this has me current and up-to-date. I do hope they get rid of the NNIDs because the Nintendo Account, even in its infant state, has rendered them nearly (if not) useless. Plus, they don't need all the redundancy which would likely confuse people (which I'm sure it's partially doing now, henceforth the need to do guides like the one NL did). Knowing Nintendo, though, they'll likely keep NNIDs and keep the redundancy as well. (smh...)
I would make one but it's not available in Finland yet.
I'd registered with the Nintendo account, but not Miitomo. Thanks for the reminder.
The first social media game, 1 up for Nintendo.
@Nego Let me tell you something. Flipnote Studio 3D had been revelated like in 2013. In 2015 they had said Europe will get their Flipnote around September 2015, when the news about the new programme will be revelated.
It's 2016. Now, from what I understand, we need to preregister to Nintendo Account to get the Flipnote for free (and seeing that the app was Club Nintendo exlusive for NA, this may be as well the only way we can get the app). The problem is: I cannot preregister "due to my country settings". They would better add some revision for those who cannot preregister now because this is seriously not fair.
With all I have seen since 2012 I feel like with each step forward Nintendo makes 2 steps sideways and one backwards. Like, since they forced us to use NNID, I cannot play German games I paid for way back then - I simply cannot redownload them. It's not region lock anymore, it's country lock now.
@KTT The only thing about Flipnote 3D you said that I didn't know already was the fact that you have to preregister to get it for free. Which sucks but thanks for the info. I wasn't sure about the details on that one.
And yeah, I've been waiting for the app ever since it was first revealed year ago. Back then it was also said to be completely free. Now it's free only for those who preregister for the Nintendo Account. It's not fair, just like you said.
I didn't know about Germany's situation with the NNID and I'm really sorry to hear that Nintendo botched the support for games like that for you. It's simply horrible.
NoE also fails in that they consider Europe only those countries that they have their own office in. This excludes all the countries that have external distributors handling their affairs. Remember when they said in a Nintendo Direct that all who bought both versions of Super Smash Bros. 4 would get the Mewtwo DLC for free? Well they forgot to mention that deal was limited only to the residents of countries who had the Club Nintendo reward scheme, a.k.a. those countries in which Nintendo operates directly without any external distributor. Sucks, right? Well Nintendo didn't care if it sucked or not, they just rolled with it.
Thanks for the reminder NL. I'll be honest, I was so underwhelmed by the Miitomo announcement it completely left my memory. I'll give it a chance though, but I doubt I'll do anything memorable with it. The only reason I'm getting it is for the points.
@Nego Well this is what I got from the info around. It's just as hazy as you said, hard to find any reliable info and this is what I got:
"Please remember, Europeans and Australians are entitled to receive a Flipnote Studio 3D download code if registration is done within the pre-launch period."
Which I assume is the preregistration period right now. And this will make the Flipnote unavailable for many, unless they include the poeple who could not preregister normaly or add the app to the store (for which we will have to pay, unlike the others).
Hmm, I should explain that more. I live in central Europe. Before NNID I had funds in few countries. Let me describe why was that. You know, I got the system but in its early years there were little retail games I was interested in, so I wanted get some virtual games just to make some use the new console. The only way you can add funds to eShop is by bank card or prepaid card. I'm one of those rare people who don't use payment bank cards so I had to figure out how to pay for those eShop games with the prepaid cards. Now common eShop prepaid cards weren't available here and I literaly had to ask people around the Europe for them, which pretty much forced me to buy games from foregin eShops.
With inclusion of NNID I lost the funds located in the foregin eShops (of course I spent every penny I had to avoid the bigger loss) and I cannot redownload games that aren't available in my eShop. Yes, I know I could redownload the game before creating NNID but I simply forgot to. It happens. With NNID I cannot connect German eShop (after changing the region settings of course) and it immediately logs me out. Now I want to play German version of Zelda and I cannot. It is marked as N/A in my eShop and cannot get it from German eShop. I was considering about contacting NoE but seeing they haven't replied to my email I sent them few years ago I doubt they will reply here as well.
Whoa! I wasn't aware of that. I don't play Smash, so I didn't know about that. Are you sure they didn't mention that it was only available for those residents? Usually they put an asterix or something to be safe. But on the other hand I saw in one Direct that StreetPass Relay was about to be launched here and that never happened, despite seeing the Relay icon, in their Direct, in our capital city. Sigh, Club Nintendo was another failure of them. I'm glad it is over and that's why I'm looking forward for Nintendo Account. But as I see what happens now I have the bitter reminescent of Club Nintendo again.
Oh boy, I apologise for long text
@KTT Ah, that makes sense but still sucks. They didn't really think it through it would seem.
And yeah, I'm pretty sure they didn't mention that the Mewtwo DLC was available for free for only people in certain countries. I could be wrong though but I'm usually careful when it comes to things like these.
I've contacted NoE regarding the eligibility of Flipnote 3D just to find out how they have planned it. Let's hope they'll answer my e-mail.
@Nego Allrighty. I would be glad if you shared their answer (if they answer).
I cant wait! I know it's a long shot, but how great would it be to see Amiibo used in the game?
@KTT Much to my surprise I just received a reply. Here's an exact quote: "Users who sign up to My Nintendo during the launch period will be able to download Flipnote Studio 3D to their Nintendo 3DS system for free."
There was no mention what this "launch period" was so I had to ask them whether it meant just the pre-regisration period or if it also spans over some time after the launch. Hopefully I'll get another reply.
@Amrulez http://i.imgur.com/3GAdvQN.jpg yeah, beautiful...
"This Nintendo Network ID cannot currently
be used due to its country setting."
Live in Finland.. i'm on the same boat than other scandinavians here, I can't registering My Nintendo Account! @#$%^%##
@Nego I think this is a positive message: there is a hope the launch period will be after preregistration as well, at the time where all countries can join. Keep it up!
@MetaRyan I'd totally swap right at a Bulbasaur, best gen 1 starter.
@KTT I got a new reply stating that the Launch Period will start when the service is launched meaning that we'll be eligible for Flipnote Studio 3D just like other Europeans. : )
@Mikanes I contacted NoE and was told that registration will be possible once the service launches and that I will be eligible to get Flipnote Studio 3D for free. As a fellow Finn I hope you'll find this calming. No mention of the platinum coins though.
@Nego Thank goodness! The wait is almost over. Not only we will all have the account but we will all be able to receive the app, just like they promised. I'm thankful for your input in the matter.
tried to preregister but it says could not find page, i think they stoped preregistering
