The number of 3DS retail titles with solid release dates for Europe is relatively thin, but we can now take Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games off the list. As continues to be the case it's the 3DS version that's coming first, with the Wii U iteration yet to be dated.
It's heading to Europe on 8th April, which means it's lagging a little behind the North American arrival (18th March) in the sprint to stores.
The Mario & Sonic Olympics series has clearly been popular for a number of iterations, and it'll be interesting to see how well this one does at retail. It has a whole load of minigames - including Olympics newcomers like Rugby and Golf - along with multiplayer and some amiibo support. The Japanese trailer below has plenty of footage.

I honestly don't care about this franchise (I don't hate it, I'm indifferent).
But MAN, the official artwork of Mario and Sonic looking like this always makes the kid in me squeal of joy.
What of the Wii U version? People will no doubt conspire to believe it to be ported to NX.

I don't understand the phrase 'some Amiibo support'. This suggests that without the toys the game is lacking.

The premise of a Mario Sonic crossover has been there since 2008. Make a bloody real one.

IIRC, it just supports the Mario and Sonic figures. (With all Mario's variations of course).
I'll pick this up when it comes to Wii U, I'm not a big fan of these minigame collections on handhelds because I don't believe the controls are sturdy enough to withstand all the stick wiggling and button bashing.
I own the previous one, but it had a few glitches which was never fixed so i stopped caring.
I quite enjoyed the original 2008 game but the formula never changed enough to convince me on picking up a sequel as the original still keeps me satisfied if I ever feel like playing such a game.
This Mario n sonic at the Olympics seems more appeal this time for some reason not sure why tho lol.
I'm gonna wait for the Wii U version. I have 2008 and 2010 on Wii, but this will have enough new sports, plus the all-important HD factor, to make it worthwhile.
Just hope it has full online competition, plus a decent standard of competition for the single-player.
The soccer looks like it has potential - a toned-down version of Strikers, but with more variety in the finishing moves.
Reviews don't count for this series. Critics demand innovation and so franchises like this always seem to suffer, when hopefully Olympics 2016 Wii U will turn out to be a thoroughly good game.
Well, Europe getting stuff after the U.S. is nothing new. Glad to see the games still coming before the actual olympics, though!
Maybe the WiiU version could be held back for a Nintendo direct and summer release closer to the Olymipics.

The way the opening paragraph is written implies the game has gone from having a confirmed release date to no longer having that release date... Surely exactly the opposite is true, or am I missing the point of the article? Not gonna get it. The London 2012 is the moste dissapointing 3DS game I own.
I got the first one as a present. Enjoyed playing it with friends. Picked up the second one and hardly touched it, not bothered since as this series is basically Nintendo's Fifa, I.e. the same game re-skinned every couple of years. Worth a punt if you've not played the earlier entries though.
After buying Decathlete for Sega Saturn back in the mid 90s, I knew just one of these kinds of games was enough for my collection.
