We rate Xenoblade Chronicles X very highly here at Nintendo Life, and the odds are good that many others with the game now do likewise. It's a hugely impressive achievement from Monolith Soft and a strong showcase for Wii U in many respects, including its soundtrack.
We think the soundtrack for this game has some notable high points, though some aren't fans and compare it unfavourably to that of its predecessor. We'd argue that some of the modern genres and styles used regularly in the game fit well with the aesthetic and setting of this game but, ultimately, opinions are varied.
This entry does have some calmer tracks, however, and also dramatic orchestrated moments. Nintendo has shared a couple of these tracks on YouTube, with some lovely music playing as quotes from those behind the ost are also shared. Pop in some headphones and have a listen.

I actually like this soundtrack much more. Much more varied.
Where's the last survival guide Nintendo? I'm almost dead because you haven't released it yet.
hahah a game update should replace the NLA music, people are really obsessed with the "rap" tunes we hear there and forget all the other wonderfull classical tunes the game has
I like every track so far and think it fits with the aesthetic and world very well. My only complaint with the music is the fact that it can be louder than the dialogue at times during cut scenes and there's no way to adjust it. That's also my only complaint with the game as a whole; it's been a great ride so far!
The music in this game is really great. It's a strong artistic choice, to the point I've seen in the game as of now
There's good stuff here, but several of the battle themes (especially Black Tar, the regular battle theme, and others similar to it) are absolutely awful because of the shoddy vocals. They actually would have been better off just being instrumentals with no voices. Monolith Soft / Nintendo should have just saved their money and not hired the vocalists for those tracks.
At this point in my life, I just don't have it in me to slog through a game with crappy battle music for almost half the time I would be playing it. Listening to other music instead during battles doesn't work either, because the sound settings can't be adjusted individually, and the character voice interactions are important to listen for. It's bad enough from my point of view that I am holding off on getting XCX until these terrible voice tracks can be replaced by purely instrumental versions through modding. (Which may be possible next year, or perhaps the year after, given recent modding developments...)
I can wait until then, since I have a huge backlog anyways...
I don't get people hating on the soundtrack so much. It is so varied! And if you don't like black tar you should finish your battles quicker. The vocals don't kick in until 1:30 or so. I'm a huge fan of vocal battle music, reminds me a lot of the Persona games. I hope more games do it in the future.
I really wish there was an option to turn the music off. It's not terrible music, its just unrelenting. There's NO quiet and really steals away the immersion. This game's great and its the only complaint I have. An update to rectify this and this game's a 10 for me.
I like the second one.
I like nearly all the OST, apart from the NLA music, that gets me on my nerves after a while.
@andrea987
It got on my nerves instantly. Horrible. They should have left that music back in real L.A.
I have zero problems with the music, I actually like most of it a lot, apart from the NLA rap stuff, but even that isn't so bad.
It is strange however that the audio settings can't be tweaked, especially considering you can tweak pretty much EVERYTHING else in the game, from huds and notifications to camera settings.
Erm, it says music has been removed? Has Nintendo putvthe ban hammer on even Momolith softs own work?!
Wow, I can't believe that these songs got pulled down too! D:
Didn't even get to hear them, anyone have the name of the songs?
Looks like they are back now..

@SupremeAllah I agree. Some of the songs, though, are amazing. The Noctilum ones, for example.
Still, my favourite OST remain the one from Last Story. Ni no kuni comes close, though.
The second video track is amazing. I love the night theme for Sylvavum.
