Nintendo is releasing a new 2DS hardware bundle to mark the launch of Yo-Kai Watch in North America.
The console - which comes with the game pre-installed - will launch on November 6th for $99.99, alongside the game's full retail release.
Yo-Kai Watch is the first in a series which has taken Japan by a storm. The original game has already sold 8 million units in its homeland, and a sequel - as well as spin-off, Yo-Kai Watch Busters - have performed similarly well.
Nintendo is clearly hoping that the franchise will achieve the same success in the west as Pokémon, hence the pairing of the game with the child-friendly 2DS system as opposed to the New 3DS.

Makes perfect sense
I finally picked up Little Battlers. I'll see how i feel after the demo with this one!
@TruenoGT When you say '2 player' are you talking about something along the lines of a co-op campaign? 'Cause it doesn't have that, but you can battle with other players much like you would in Pokémon.
And each cartridge has 3 save slots available.
This makes a lot of sense on the marketing end of things, but it's a shame that all those young players will never know that wonderful job Level 5 did with the 3D effect on that game. It seriously looks a lot better with the slider all the way up.
i wonder what color the system will be? or if it will be like the Mario Kart 7 bundle, which was every color.
Not a bad deal for those who are still thinking about a 2DS I guess.
Basically you're getting the system for only $60.
3 Save slots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome for families with 3 3DS systems and 3 players!
I have no need for a 2DS, but this is a really great deal.
WAIT, WHAT? 2DS was geared to young kids.
Yokai Watch has some pretty adult-ish creatures.
No sense Nintendo, no sense.
@dkxcalibur Yeah it's a $40 game on Amazon, so that's a nice bundle price. And it's a new game, unlike some of the Wii U bundles, like last Christmas when they bundled 5 month old Mario Kart 8. Which is still a good game to bundle, but not a new game like this bundle. Ad this year it's Splatoon, another great game, but it isn't ... oh well, guess that's a good bundle this holiday. I'm really looking forward to XCX but not a system seller. Neither is AC:aF. I wonder if either Starfox Zero or Zelda U would have had a bundle. Even w/ all the NX stuff I think a Zelda U bundle could have moved a few more Wii U for Christmas this year. Maybe not next holiday though.
So was anybody expecting a "new 2DS" this holiday? I realize the new super stable 3D is a big selling point, but so is that 2nd thumbstick and NFC in the console is nice. Considering this is for kids, and you would think amiibo toys and cards are for kids, dropping an NFC chip in there should be a gimme. And "new" for the marketing push. Why continue to manufacture the old chipset when 3DS and XL are both running the newer ones? Well maybe it will be like new 3DS and new 2DS will launch when supply runs out next winter or spring. But I think new 2DS w/ thumbstick and NFC would help sell it.
It'd be nice if this gave the 3DS a late boost like the Pokemans did for the Game Boy.
Very good price for this bundle. It seems they will be pushing this one a lot, as it should be.
I been holding out for a minute, now i'm diggin' my options! This and Xenoblade X must-buys for me this winter, then New Leaf (lol don't be mad catz!
;-D
@TheLobster This looks like a pretty good deal if you still want to buy 1 for your imaginary kid.
Besides the US and UK both needing retail and online stores, I really wish NOA and NOE could get each others phone numbers and pretend they worked for the same company so we didn't have to scour each and every post for regional information. Though occasionally TW and the guys are nice enough to put it in the title. Still waiting for my 3DS Selects though. I'm OK w/ Japan doing it's own thing, like no 2DS whatsoever, b/c I cant read Japanese anyway, but US and EU should be similar. I'm ok w/ a few days or weeks apart, and I know currency conversions and VAT tax means things won't be 100%, but they are just too far apart as is. Games like Captain Toad and Yoshi with about 8 words of translation each should launch much closer together, 1 united marketing push, not months and months.
@TruenoGT YW has 3 save files, as far as mp is consired, no 1st game didn't have it, unless it's been added for the western release.
BURN IT.
This is a ridiculously good deal, since you are essentially getting a 2DS for $60. Yokai Watch is a completely new IP for the west with a good amount of potential, so it will be interesting to see how well the game sells and how much 3DS hardware this bundle pushes to consumers.
@dkxcalibur by that logic you were always getting the system for $70.
I think all 2DS in the US come with MK7 for free except for this bundle, but your still getting it for $99.99 because its digital copy and you can't sell that. just saying.
I get where your coming from but since you can't get rid of the game, eh idk...
@rjejr Haha! I have the game itself preordered for myself already though. My imaginary kid will have to wait his/her turn at mom's 3DS! I do have a spare 3DS lying around so it's not a terrible fate a la Majora's Mask.
@TheLobster My wife's 3DS is our spare one. Ever since she got a Nook tablet she's been addicted to Facebook and match 3 games so she hasn't touched it. I won't play it out of the house though, it's the pink one. Most of my nieces and nephews have used it at one time or another, Download Play is something Nintendo got right. .
@westman98 erm all new 2DS in the US come with mk7 installed...
@Uberchu Well Mario Kart 7 is like about to approach its 4th birthday this year. Yokai Watch is a completely new game for the western audiences.
