With the 30th Anniversary of Super Mario coming up, there's lots of celebration of the iconic franchise. We're running daily articles on Mario Memories and Mario History here on Nintendo Life, and plenty of websites and YouTube channels are also looking at the iconic mascot's games.
Did You Know Gaming? has done its fair share of Mario videos in the past, and its latest certainly has some neat snippets of information. It takes a look at Dr. Mario and its early prototypes, and also checks out Power-Ups that were considered for the platformers; we're rather sad that Chicken Mario, in particular, never saw the light of day.
Check it out below and let us know what you think.

Huh. I knew about Chicken Mario, but not Centaur and Demon Mario.
I'm surprised that Dr.Mario isn't really a doctor!
Does this mean that he's really not a plumber either?
Lolling at the Yellow Virus: "It is unknown why this change was made".
I'm assuming the Youtubers who voice these videos do it before the video itself is made or he would have never been able to say that sentence with a straight face
Dr. Mario is Mario Mario's cousin.
Centaur Mario, kinda glad that never made it in!
Cool.
Interesting, as always!
By the way: It seems many game-related things are inspired by Journey to the west, wich seems to be about a monkey on a cloud. Not only that PS3 game and Dragonball, but also this canned demon-suit (I mean the cloud). And of course there is the Lakitu-cloud. I think I should watch that "Journey" anime some day!
@Henmii To be fair it's not just an anime, Journey to the west is an old famous oriental novel that received ton of adaptations and inspired many works along the centuries, I wouldn't be surprised if they even teach it in schools since the cultural impact it had.
In Bowser's design case the anime is the clear reference since it's the oax of that adaptation that inspired Miyamoto, but it shouldn't be the case with every work and element inspired by the novel (or maybe it could be the case, most old literatures nowaday are know cause of cartoons based on them instead then the original work >.>; ).
Chickens aren't flightless
I always enjoy this series, it one of the few subscriptions I actually keep up with on YouTube. After watching this episode however, I really want to know what gameplay advantage Mario got by being a Centaur? Did he break out a claymore and start slaughtering koopas?
@BakaKnight,
I know, its a Asian folk-tale.
