Code Name S.T.E.A.M may be a while away from release in Europe - it's due on 15th May - yet Nintendo has thrown up a surprise by releasing a 3DS eShop demo for the title in today's download update. It's fairly substantial in terms of its size, considering it's a demo, as it requires 1871 blocks of space on your SD card.

The upcoming strategy title from Intelligent Systems is one of the portable's major releases in the first half of the year, adopting turn-based strategy from a zoomed-in perspective, tasking the player with navigating through a 3D environment. It'll support Fire Emblem amiibo figures on the New Nintendo 3DS and also include local and online multiplayer modes.

As for the demo, it has a 30 use limit and doesn't include any multiplayer, but it does allow you to dive into the early stages of the campaign. For those unsure of this one's approach and the steampunk aesthetic, this demo provides an ideal opportunity to see what it has to offer.

We'll update if this demo arrives in North America too - are you European 3DS owners going to give this a try?
