Nintendo goes through a lot of concepts and projects that don't, in the end, become a full game. While that's normal, it can be fascinating to learn about some of the games or ideas that never made it to our systems, with a recent example being that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker evolved from a Legend of Zelda concept.
That's one project included in the latest Mario-related video from the Did You Know Gaming YouTube channel. We share these videos from time to time as they often include some entertaining Nintendo trivia, both familiar and lesser known. The episode below covers Mario concepts and ideas that were held back due to system limitations, or others that were just outright rejected; we quite like the sound of Super Mario Spikers from Next Level Games, as volleyball blended with wrestling sounds too bonkers to resist.

I thought the cancelled game was already talked about in a previous version or it must of been one of there links to the side
Kind of fun to learn some of the history behind the titles. There has to be millions of stories about failed game pitches. I bet some of the stories are epic
Well, I've always been fine with the soccer and other sports spin-offs, so I might have liked that one. I'm still waiting for a new Mario Strikers. :3
Haha, those animations were quite funny to see. I never thought I'd see Yoshi slam his own kind to the ground like that.
Super Mario Strikers is absolutely my favorite Mario sports game aside from the Tennis series (just because I feel the Tennis games are actually very refined). That being said, to see the already violent aspects of the Strikers game taken to a new level would have been amazing but I do understand the point of it being too "realistically" violent though, especially for Mario.
Wasn't the cancelled Super Mario Spikers game concept specifically touched upon by Nintendo Life only a few months back?
I'd play that.
I'd love to see a Yukes developed Mario wrasslin' game.
Interesting stuff, as always!
