Following the recent launch of 3DS HOME menu themes Nintendo confirmed that there'd be weekly additions to the Theme Shop, at least in the early days. The European Download Update for this week will bring the next four additions to the Nintendo IP range, which cost $1.99 / €1.99 / £1.79 each.
These themes will be Spinner Mario, Spinner Bowser, Spinner Peach and Spinner Rosalina, which disappointingly isn't a theme that shows each character struggling through a Spin Class at the Mushroom Kingdom gym. Rather, each one has different themed folders and the character spins when the touch screen is used. Images posted by Nintendo on Twitter sadly don't recreate what we're sure is a lovely spinning effect, but do give us a glimpse of the general designs.
It seems a pity that Mario and Bowser have rather muted coloured palettes while Peach and Rosalina have all the fun, but that's just one perspective. Are you planning to pick any of these themes up, and have you bought any so far? Let us know.

Still no Monster Hunter, Still sad.
Where is the Skyward Sword one that was subtly advertised in the little video that plays after the 3DS system update?
The article title is confusing. Are you talking about the new themes or the themes for the new 3ds?
This is Nintendo marketing at its best.
If the music is fine, I might get the Spinner Mario skin. It's a shame it's not a pinball spinner though.
I might get Spinner Rosalina, but only if I have some money to throw around.
On the headline confusion, yeah, I see what you're saying. I mean new themes for the 3DS, I typically say New Nintendo 3DS when referencing the updated portable.
But yeah, it's awkward!
I know Mario is super popular, but Mario themes are outnumbering all other Nintendo games by something like 10:1 (literally just one - Zelda). I know it's early days, but it would have been nice to launch with a broader range of game themes.
@ThomasBW84
I was messing, I knew what you meant. But Nintendo should have seen that coming. This is probably not the last time it'll happen.
@ThomasBW84 I do believe the characters are spinning on the bottom screen, similar to 'running mario'. rather than "spin[ing] on the top screen when the touch screen is used". That would also explain why there are no characters on the top screen in those screenshots
I just want more free ones!!
@PvtOttobot Ah yes, that makes more sense...
OMG that black one! Better than my current favorite: simple black.
New 3DS themes, Not 'New' 3DS!
Hah, white XL with black theme and black XL with pink theme. Would be ideal the other way around. I wanna see how the black theme fits the black XL.
How has there not been a Smash Bros. theme? I guess it's hard to have a unified theme from a game with 49 characters from dozens of game universes, but they made a Smash Bros. 3DS XL, so I think Nintendo could pull it off.
I'm waiting for a Metroid theme but I'll probably get the Zelda ALBW one.
Metroid please!
@ThomasBW84
If you would go with:
"Nintendo Releases a Sneak Preview of New HOME Menu Themes for the 3DS"
It would be a lot clearer already, not that hard to come up with
You can watch videos of all those on Nintendo Japan's YouTube account, it's just for static images which show the characters from four angles..they don't really spin continuously.
eh,they look ok
Ugh. These are just so grossly overpriced. The Nintendo-themed ones are $2.60 EACH in Australia. Seriously, man? They're just wallpapers and icons accompanied with music (the music being recycled across multiple themes). I don't expect Nintendo to release these for free (though they should), but there are many DSiWare games that cost only $3 and include gameplay for the price, and even Gunman Clive provides a really fun experience for 10c less than the asking price for these menu themes.
They ought to be charging $3-$5 tops for a pack of themes, not close to $3 just for a single wallpaper and a few other superficial graphics that we should have the option to create ourselves for free. I'll probably buy a theme or two eventually (heck, I would have bought them all if only Nintendo had adopted a more reasonable pricing strategy), but to put things into harsh perspective, AU$10.40, being the asking price for a SNES title or a decent budget-priced eShop title, will buy you only four wallpaper graphics. This is nothing short of a rip-off. Nintendo-themed wallpapers for PCs are free through their many mini sites, so I don't see why 3DS wallpapers should be any different.
Getting all of them. I like having different options. Can't wait for us to get these and the Animal Crossing ones.
...Still no New 3DS announcement for us.... :/
The Rosalina one would look great on my sea green 2DS. Problem is, my 2DS is my secondary 3DS, meaning it doesn't have anything linked to it since I'm waiting for the day Nintendo implements a REAL account system on their consoles. I'll probably have to wait 3 years for that....
Oh good — I would have bought the Rosalina one anyway, but it just being static was kinda boring.
@sillygostly
Nintendo's simply following industry trends. PSP and PS3 paid themes cost about the same price as these (or more expensive) and aren't nearly as nice. Sure you can get custom themes for those consoles, but in terms of paid themes the 3DS themes are priced "fairly". You can expect Vita, PS4, and XBone themes to cost about the same prices. Besides, Japan got some free downloadable themes that we'll probably see later on as well.
"Weekly updates... at least for the first month or so. Please understand."
Nintendo...! Don't you ever learn?!?
We never got a weekly update to the theme shop last week. So obviously it's not going to be a weekly thing for the first month anyways. I want a Pokémon one already.
I'm just kind of glad that I have a slick red theme to go along with the color of my XL now.
That Spinner Bowser will be mine.
Of, course, none of these themes should be more than $1 / €1 / £1 (actually, they should really just be free, Nintendo) but them's the breaks, I suppose.
Also, what is the BGM for the new themes and when will we have a BGM-off option?
The "spinning" occurs in the bottom screen, and consists of cycling through front, profile and back shots of the characters in question:

Facepalm Why did you capitalize "New".
Spinner mario maybe...
Give me my Isabelle theme!
Mega Man theme, someday... =)
Am going to get the Bowser one when it comes out here.
You guys got me confused by putting "New" in front of "3DS." I really hope the hardware name changes when it comes here. If they don't, the consumer confusion brought on by the name Wii U will pale in comparison. I'm sure of that.
Yay, more Mario themes.
@OmegaStar
I know because it's the title of the article but the first 2 times I came by and read it I misread it as the "New 3DS" and not "New 3DS"
Mario! (Yawn)
@Thats-what-shy lol. it's called the volume slider
And more Mario... sighs Still waiting for the Skyward Sword one.
Can't we get anything themes that aren't Mario related?
Dammit Nintendo, where is my Animal Crossing theme!
